There's a sequel to this song, set ten years later. They brought in 3 other country singers, abd added a session fiddle player named Mark O'Connor. Charlie does the devil's fiddle part, while O'Connor plsys Johnny's part. O'Connor slowly builds on Johnny's part, getting faster and faster, until he's playing it at triple speed. He also plays the notes just above and below the original notes. You almost wind up thinking the fiddle will catch on fire!

The story of musicians selling their soul for incredible talent handed to them by the devil goes back a long time. Not only this song, and Crossroads (about Robert Johnson in 1937 ) and Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin, but Paganini from hundreds of years ago (classical composer) was thought to gain evil powers to create the best music.

After this show, they were driving all night to Alabama but their bus broke down coming from Saratoga springs NY. My dad was a coach bus driver who got a call in the middle of the night to drive a band to Alabama. It was this band, this night. Dad told us of stories that make Willie Nelson's or Snoop Doggs busses to shame.

Nobody sold their soul in this song. It was gambled, up against a golden fiddle, but not sold for talent. The talent was innate, and better than the devil’s, so he keeps his soul and wins a fiddle. You should see the sequel, “The Devil Went Back to Georgia,” with Johnny Cash, Charlie, Travis Tritt, and a psychotic fiddle player that’s faster than Charlie. I think I’m missing one other collaborator, but it’s still a legendary set of legends making a superior sequel.

I was 19 when this song was released in 1979, and the Charlie Daniels Band was NOT played on Country music stations, at least where I lived in the St. Louis area. The one station that DID played CDB was KSHE-FM 94.7, St. Louis' legendary Rock station, where you can STILL hear this and other classic CDB songs from the 70's. The CDB was one of the pioneering Southern Rock bands of the era, along with the Allman Brothers Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker Band, and many others. Check out songs like Birmingham Blues (from the 1975 album, Nightrider), Blue Star ( from 1979's Million Mile Reflections, the same album Devil Went Down to Georgia is from), No Place To Go (from 1975's Fire On the Mountain), and the title song from 1977's Midnight Wind.

Charlie Daniels now rests in the great beyond. His music lives on in the hearts of those, like my unhumble self, that grew up in the greatest age of music ever. If you love this, try "Still In Saigon", "Long Haired Country Boy", "The Legend of Wooley Swamp" and both versions of "Uneasy Rider". If you want something a bit lighter, try Ray Steven's "The Streak", "It's Me Again Margret" or any of his long list of comedic golden hits. God Bless and have a great day.

A lot of people say this song is Charlie Daniels spitting bars in his original rap song. It's got all the aspects of rap with a fiddle. Lol

I saw them March 2019 at Harrah's Lake Tahoe and they tore it up. This may be blasphemous, but the Devil kicked his ass as far as fiddle playing is concerned. The difference is the Devil didn't sing. RIP Charlie😇

Took you about 12 seconds before you knew that, hey, these guys are about to bring the heat. Are you a trained musician at all? bc i could see you processing he music first and then committed after Charlie's 1st bar. like you knew the music quality was fire, waited to see the vocals, and knew straight away this is going to be fire. I could be off base-
