A buddy and I would always play a Paladin Rogue duo, with him being the shining, Justicar Knight, and me being his 'squire', the shifting, scrappy backstabber. One of our favorite bits was "Alright, well, it seems as the law ties my hands, I can't really do anything, such a shame." (OOC) "Uh, GM? I take my eyes off my squire for a second.."

Fabulous.
For a neutral/unholy champion of justice, I think that's designed for a Hellknight. Order of the Godsclaw or Torrent being Neutral, or Order of the Scourge being unholy.
@JacksonOwex
Ай бұрын
Oh! Hellknights are going to need at least a slight bit of polish since alignments were scrapped. Don't think it's too much, and that could be in PC2 since I believe it will also have MANY archetypes brought up to the Remastered rules. Also make me wonder how they are going to "fix" the Captivator(and any other archetypes that focused on specific schools for spells) since we also lost schools of magic!
@FacebookAunt
Ай бұрын
@@JacksonOwex It's easily adapted with tags. All illusion spells have the "illusion" tag. Enchantment spells mostly have the "mental" and/or "emotion" tags. So an archetype that had spells from the Occult spell list from the enchantment or illusion schools becomes spells from the Occult spell list that have the "illusion" "mental" or "emotion" tags.
Paladins should now all take legal lore to weasel around the rules properly.

Shield of faith also incenticive ennemies to attack you (instead of your allies): which is what you want from a tank.
My table always allowed Champions to retrain their Oath Feats during their Daily Preparations, or on the fly for the cost of a Focus Point. "Oh We're fighting Undead today? Anti-Undead Oath. Dragons? Anti-Dragon."
I'm so happy you moved! your set looks dope and I'm glad you're back with your good vibes PF2 content.
More Seelah art LETS GO!!!!
I theory-crafted a Goblin Dhampir Champion of Anubis. It will be interesting to see how that character works in the remaster since I’ve always wanted to make him LN.
Ayy welcome to the PNW! Appreciate you covering core 2 stuff, I'm pumped
Now my Lawyer Redemption Champion is gonna have some much better feats!
Paizo is putting in good work
Its great to see you getting back to making videos. I hope your move is everything you need and hope for.
I'm kinda surprise to hear your take on the original Champion as just primarily good for archetypes. I had champion in my campaign that was one of the best tanks I've seen in D&D and PF. The build was as follows: Flickmace for 1H Reach Weapon Sturdy Shield because before remaster was Highest Hardness/HP shield. Champion Cause: Retribution Strike so can strike back any enemy that melee attacks and ally within 10 feet at 0 MAP. Shield ally gives you +2 Hardness and +50% HP making the shield even stronger so it can be used a lot during combat. Now the feats which makes it completely OP as tank. Lvl 1) Ranged Reprisal - Can move 5ft to enter range of enemy when Retribution strike. Effectively giving Champion 15 range coverage Lvl 6) Shield Warden - Lets you use shield block as your reaction to intercept attacks on adjacent allies. (Start of combo) Lvl 8) Quick Shield Block - Gain addition Reaction that can only be used for Shield block. Can now Reprisal and Warden on the same turn to reduce damage of 2 attacks. Lvl 10) Shield of Reckoning - Do Reprisal and Shield block as one reaction. Which means you get the damage reduction and attack from the Reprisal along with taking the hit with shield hardness further reducing the hit. And you got 2 reactions per turn so can do it twice ;) Lvl 12) Attack of Opportunity - Get reactive strike which is handy if monsters try to walk past. Lvl 14) Divine Reflexes - Get reaction that can be used for Champions Reaction. Thus now has 3 reactions per turn so could get 3 No MAP strikes on enemies if they try and attack party. Lvl 16) Shield of Grace - Split damage between you and ally so when you protect them if they low on HP you can take damage. With it's reach and Range reprisal the play style of the class is actually not to stay in the front line but behind it. If you got fighter or another character with Reactive Strike(AoO) it forces the enemy to choose between getting hit by RS/AoO when walking past or getting hit with Reprisal attack. And with the Damage Reduction from the Reaction and shield block combined when it hits level 10 the DR from Reactive Strike is 12 and then Lvl 10 Sturdy shield with Shield ally is Hardness 15 / HP 156. So you can effectively negate 27 damage per attack twice per turn at Level 10 while also making Strike back at 0 MAP. Thus weaker enemies can barely hurt the party. Not only did it get more effective as the Damage Negate and Shield Hardness increased with level and better gear but also a lot of higher end monsters have dual damage types. So when the Reactive Strike Negates Level+2 All Damage it negates that much for each damage type due to how resistances work. The DM was often feeling like he made the wrong move. He'd trying to walk past fighter and get AoO hit for lot of damage then miss attack due to Champion's high AC. He'd instead just try and attack the fighter or someone else. Only to have the Champion step in and negate the damage down to practically nothing while getting a free hit back on the attacker. Sometimes even resulting in a Critical, which with a flail means they get knocked prone and when they get back up it triggers AoO from fighter. ;)
Glad you are back, covering PF2 content! I appreciate your insights… and I too, am excited for the Remastered Champion!
0:31 That bit caught me completely off guard, LMAO!

Luis Loza has a product on the Infinite site that is basically a dragonborn, Kobolds are also pretty good replacements(I should say WERE as they too are going to be in PC2 with changes of some kind). Also, you could just get over playing dragons, there's a LOT of cool shit in PF2! Oh!!! We're also getting some kind of draconic heritage(I believe this was confirmed, perhaps it's mostly just Luis's thing actually in print!) in PC2!

There's apparently a dragon-blooded ancestry that is coming up in one of the books that will allow people to play dragon-people in whatever way they wish. From 'just a little dragon-looking' to 'full on dragonborn'. I'm pretty stoked about that myself. I'll finally be able to play a wizard I had way back in the beginning days of 5e before the campaign petered out abruptly. Fun times ahead!
The recording space looks spiffy as hell, man! Looks great! :D And that subscribe edit was clean and nicely spooky. I'm sure you noticed this in the edit, but your mic was a bit low and quiet, so either cranking the gain up or looking into a mic arm to get it closer to your mouth might be worthwhile. I'm excited to see what you do in this new space!
Keep up the good work bud! We started playing PF2E when the OGL scandal ran people away from D&D. And your videos are how we began to learn how to play our classes.
At PaizoCon, they were saying that the Oaths and Litanies were only being moved out because of lack of space.😅

Idk, i am still going to play a champion with an unbreaking vow or edict, i think thats what made champion/paladins so special due to their dedication and religion. When they fall short (most paladins do once in their lives) it can be a very powerful roleplay moment

That's the beauty of the new system imo, it's now a choice instead of a requirement
New space looks great! keep doing awesome stuff homie
Looks impresive. Nice work.
Paladin / Champion has always been one of my go-to classes, PF1 as PF2. I just love the concept of somebody finally stepping up to meet their principles, taking all the consequences of doing so. My pala could be a jerk, of course, and the magus in our group more than once had murderous twinkles in her eyes when she looked at him, but overall, it was fun (for the magus player, too - it was just our characters that didn't get along).
I LOVE YOU NONAT1S RAAAAHHHHH
This is going to be absolutely amazing!
Since Shields of the Spirit doesn't look like it is a cantrip focus spell, it doesn't seem worth taking because it only lasts one turn. One would typically only be able to use this 1-3 times each fight, depending on how many focus points you have.
The shield focus spell is neat, but it has the opportunity cost of removing your healing ability, and it does nothing if the enemy wasn't going to attack allies in your aura anyway, either because of your positioning or because allies hate to stay in your aura...
I'm pumped, I'm playing a wood/earth wrestler kineticist in the kingmaker ap right now but if he dies I'm making a cavalier champion. I've already called dibs in our group
First thanks for your work. Now the Paladin (Champion) was one of my favorite classes for decades. Yes decades. I am not such a fan of how it was done in Pathfinder. I am also not a fan of them making changes just to appease the OGL 1.x but I understand it. I feel the removal of alignment was perhaps 50% legally related and 50% Paizo not understanding alignment. I won't dwell on that but suffice to say I see Paizo creators falling more of a "morality is subjective and relative" view of the world vs those that disagree with that. However it is their game so their rules. So other than alignment what are some key things most people think of when they think of a Paladin? Heavy Armor. yep. Knight in shining armor type of dude? Sure. Dude who can hit super hard (smite) his enemies? Yep. A fighter who dips his toes in to divine spellcasting? Yes. Someone who protects his allies? Yep. A noble warrior who because of the restrictions of being noble (good), he has a bit more power than say a fighter. So for me and other fans of the Paladin (Champion) what would we like to see? Smite of evil creatures baked in at level 1. This could be a focus spell but something that allows a very hard hit and that hit could be a reaction as well. Right now smart monsters ignore the Paladin and kill his friends. His friends who are squishy are more than 15 feet away generally. Even if they are not, the damage reduction and free swing just doesn't mean much. So given that increase over time the distance and damage reduction. Have it scale so it really does matter. Make that smite something to be feared, so smart monsters will really have to deal or at least somewhat focus on the Paladin. Next up is lay on hands. It is awesome, like really awesome. So so so many games there is an hour or more of downtime and the Paladin can just heal the entire party up. However, what I and many others would like to see is far far far more options for focus spells. As I mentioned above a greatly improved smite would be baked in to the class. Next up is once you pick an options for a Paladin the feats are kind of made for you. Large weapons, range weapon, weapon and shield? This give the illusion of choice but there isn't enough choices once you make that first choice. Next is heavy armor. I love how armor is done in the game, but I would like to see more cool stuff a Paladin could do with heavy armor. I know there are some but again this could be expanded. Now since they chose to remove alignment out of the game, this makes it difficult to implement but not impossible.
@JacksonOwex

I don't think it's Paizo that has issues understanding alignment, it's the PLAYERS! I believe WotC was also looking at dropping alignments for 6E(or whatever the heck they want to try to call it/claim it is)! Careful that sentiment though, you'll get called a "grognard" and "gatekeeper" for it, I know from personal experience! Also, don't think of Champion's as Pathfinder's version of D&D's Paladin and you get over some of the differences pretty quick!
@SteveMichael
Ай бұрын
@@JacksonOwex I hear you for sure. I have talked to a fair number of Paizo employees and I stand by what I said, but you are probably correct in that players don't understand it as well. I do feel that 50% of this remaster is for legal reasons though and that is unfortunate. Could you imagine if they just focused 100% on improving the game and not refactoring it to remove OGL issues? I suspect that there will be even more changes in Pathfinder 3, to change Str, Int, Dex, Con, Char, Wis, to different names as well. The same thing but just naming differences because of legal reasons. As far as the Paladin goes I do wish they would implement the changes I suggested even with the alignment being removed. Things to make the Paladin feel like a holy warrior.
Nice set man Im waiting for the Commander release
Loving the new place! Hope the monitor set up is part of the growing pains, because having you looking at a 90 degree angle while you read the text is really awkward. Really like the Champion changes, though!
welcome to the Pacific Northwest! Hope you love it here
Not going to lie here I’m looking forward to this because I originally found the champion a little restrictive but now that they’re going to be a little more versatile and not as restrictive it’s got my attention
Thanks for the content.
Glad to see you back, NoNat! 💚
Ooh, love the new studio! And Pacific Northwest?! Care to get more particular? Curious how close you are these days!
Dam, looking good my dude.
great edit at the start asking to subscribe!
I can almost see them turning Mercy into more of a passive benefit and MAYBE letting it add an additional action cost to Lay on Hands for bonus benefits. It feels clunky as a spellshape, and I think thats the core of why it feels odd to use (In addition to being hyper specific use cases)
I had once toyed with the idea of a Champion with Arcane Sorcerer Dedication, and this is making me think about it again
Shields of the Spirit encourage enemies to attack the champ and punish attacking allies. Better taunt than Taunt. Take that, guardians.
Welcome to the PNW! I live just south of Seattle so if you're in the area hit me up and maybe we can get a home game going!
Oh I’m so down for this review. DnD paladin/PF2e champion class is my favourite and I am so looking forward to the PF2r version.
Oh this looks so interesting. I'm so curious on how a holy justice paladin would handle working in a place like Cheliax. Also I saw your best multiclass archetype for each class and that got me looking into the champion a bit more cause im playing around with a witch for a future campaign. The liberator sounds like a great fit for my resentment witch whose resentment is focused on those with power over another using it to hurt those beneath them.
Can't wait to play Captain Hook as a Paladin!!
What a awesome set 😊
Welcome to the PNW! Hope to see you at a game table somewhere 🍻
West coast best coast, welcome to the cool part of the country! Jokes aside, I’m currently playing a Champion and I may need to rebuild her lol
I pray we see some intentional dex champion features. We are missing a whole category of swift on their feet and lighter play style knights. And the swashbuckler just doesn’t do what I’m getting at. A champion who can give up heavy armor for dex to damage could open up a whole new world. Thus allowing it to make sense to take other dex based components which don’t otherwise make sense when you have to keep a high str balanced with dex. Imagine an archer paladin with Legolas flavor just F-ing everyone up inside a 15 ft range keeping your aura buffing your team. I mean come on people.
Just now realized, with the dragonblood and the Champion remaster, I could rebuild my first PC in PF2e. I was already excited, but seeing the Champion stuff has me amped for what other changes are in store.
Tech feedback : your sound was lower than usual, that is lower than most channels on my PC. The volume is still decent.

New set! New set!!
I have a champ at my table who is taking some of the Mercy feats. Just enough to get access to their easy resurrection.
I. Legitimately can't wait for this. I thoroughly enjoy the champion over other games Paladin and I am so eager to see new and refined stuf Get created. although I have taken oath againstundead before I think I would like to see bonus damage VS undead and some kind of minor passive effect like resistant, too disease or something.
Looks like an upgrade - congrats.
Currently playing a Warpriest Cleric who I think could work perfectly as a remastered Champion (probably either Justice or Grandeur) too!
Nice and fancy set.
Love the new place! n_n
Now I think I want to make a Champion.
Even if it cost a Focus Point (which can be regained during a day), Shield the Spirit seems a bit too strong (lacks limits imo).
Honesty, they should have allowed you more extra fees considering the full customization that are possible, but feat starved.
Shield of the Spirit is exactly what I need for my skeleton champion I've wanted to play!
Coming in PC2(classes at least): Alchemist, Barbarian, Champion, Investigator, Monk, Oracle, Sorcerer, and Swashbuckler, aka All the classes that have/had ANY tie to dragonsand/or ones that needed more work to make them more viable!
1) Welcome to the PNW, I miss it there myself. 2) Nice set up. 3) Lets f*cking goooooooo! The champion rework sound amazeballs.

The volume of your audio is pretty low on this one. Maybe it's because of your distance from the mic.
Is just me, or is the audio volume quite low in this video?
Are you Seattle or Portland??
Hello yes this is my champion; Sonic The Hedgehog.
Sorta. Champion scales armor proficiency mirroring everyone else until late game (16? 17?). It's kinda upsetting. Champion gets good support abilities. Which is cool. But that's the class niche with very little flexibility. If you want damage you need to rely on your divine ally mount eventually. Mean while fighter does everything. They can tank hard. They can strike hard. And their support abilities through CCing. Then you can off spec with fighter for supporting champion powers. Or just off spec into a cleric and get spells. I love Champion having a good support niche. I strongly dislike that's as far as it goes.
