one significant problem i have with this show is that, even though generational disconnect is a huge theme (many, many scenes talk about how people of different ages, genders, and social groups interact), i felt that the students were kind of underdeveloped. the side characters that represented the student body (the TA and the student who hands bill her novel) felt sort of hollow, and the rest of the student body felt like a monolithic representation of what an older person might think young politically active people are like. that being said, i did not go to an ivy league/lib arts college - do they really act like that there? the "town hall" scene felt like a twitter thread in real life. truly surreal

I agree, the students were pretty caricature-ish. They had a couple of students they could've developed (like the girl who had a crush on Bill or the grad student) but admittedly there were already too many characters.

Great review!!! I saw The Chair 3 times since it was released. This is a great show!!! I am hoping that there is a 2nd season for this show. All of the actors performance were top notch. There were no dry spots in any of the episodes either. I suspect that because Benioff & Weiss(Game of Thrones creators) have produced this series and Sandra Oh headlines the series, The Chair will receive tons of nominations from the Emmys, Golden Globe and SAG award shows in 2022. This is a very great show!!!
