Some of Versailles’ interior rooms have a ton of gold paint and a cream wall/backdrop color and they look fabulous. I can see that look working in your chateau. You already started that theme in the salon and I can’t wait to see this area finished.

I THINK Carole is keeping with gold trims on doors etc because it looks elegant in that beautiful Chateau.❤ And gold enhances the decor. She knows her decorating very well. Im excited to see the door mouldings etc. As Carole and Adrian will do excellent lovely work on those doors.🎉

Your home, your choice however my personal opinion is you have over done it with the gold. The trim on the doors would have been sufficient.

While I like the idea of a gold as an emphasis, I feel that the solid golden doorframe, as opposed to a single part of the mouldings would be the sort of opulence that'd belong in the palace of Versailles, rather than a regular chateau. That said, if you are fully committing to the gold, I'd advise heavy drapes and lamps that give dusk or candle light vibes in luminosity - gold shimmers the best in half (flickering) light, rather than a bright sunlit room.

I think that gold should be left to highlight and not cover. The little pieces of trim on the panels were perfect. But all that gold surrounding the door gives a heavy and overwhelming appearance. There can be too much of a good thing, and I’m afraid the door surround is it. 😢

Here is a thought; that first piece you showed, that pink flower with the green background. You could take that pattern and use it for a needlepoint pillow or chair cushions. That is so classic.

I agree it’s too much gold for my taste as well, in my humble opinion I doubt there would have originally been much gold if any in the original chateau, it’s a stately house not a palace, but it’s you house and you have to live in it and look at it 😊 personally I would have loved to see an ivy design around that doorway.

Carole for heavens sakes put that pot of gold paint away!!!! Loved what you did in the salon, dining room and hallway downstairs, however, that door frame looks naff painted gold (particularly surrounding the palladian window). Also, the ceiling rose in the upstairs hallway only needed a few gentle brushes of gold to accent it, but now it looks gaudy and is competing with the chandelier, which is a different hue of gold. It would be so much more tasteful painted white again. I think all those fumes are starting to affect you.😅 A little goes a long way! There. I said it. You wondered if anyone would post about the gold. It was an invitation right? 😂

It's gorgeous, of course, but the problem with going with so much gold on a portal to a halfway is that you'll need some sort of consistency in the entire hallway. And the bedrooms will need to be that much more...

At times the gold reads on the blog as a blah brown.

Thinking the solid gold has shifted it to look more Art Deco than LouisXV-esq of the ballroom ... with the sensual curve of the balestrading - black and gold - it's quite delicate and a bit more Napolean III ... I just think it's too heavy ... definatelly add the mouldings, but Fritz, the all gold doorway architrave

stunning transformation, as usual. my personal thought would have been to paint the whole staircase, hallway, and doors white. Start with the door & window trim in gold. Only then consider painting the whole door frame gold - I believe it might be overkill - but that is an opinion and everyone has one of those

Carole, I love the gold around the door, I'm undecided if the gold would be just too much on the molding around the ceiling. I think you can have just too much gold. I love the railing on the stairs with the touches of gold on the spindles. I would think having the gold on the molding around the ceiling would take away from the fabulous door and the staircase spindles making them not stand out as much, your eye would go to the ceiling instead.

Way too much gold around that door... really. We loose the main picture of the beauty of this door. It's disturbing and the chic aspect of the architecture is lost. But it's my point of view, sometimes less is better.

Adrian heard me shouting “don’t do it!” Too much gold just doesn’t work.

A framed wallpaper piece in the room it came from would be a nice document to display .

Such a lot of extra work putting gold everywhere…..I’d let the architecture speak for itself. If you are looking to sell the chateau all the gold maybe off putting. Not everyone these days goes for all that glitz! Love watching!

It is traditional to go mad on the gold. There is a vlogger called Hannah Ricketts. She has a vlog about Afternoon tea at the Ritz at Christmas time. At the 16.20 mark she shows the decorative details, and wow the amount of gold!😊❤

Carole that gold around the door frame is magnificent very grand and when you have friends and family over you would want them to feel like WOW truly is a chateau and yet it’s grand and also warm and inviting Carole your right on the money to bad we’re not neighbors I think we would drive Arden nuts we would be getting ideas from each other all the time with different decorating the rooms lol 😂 🥰

I LOVE the GOLD AROUND the arched Door!! I wish I had the open mindedness to even think of some of the things you consider doing. In my opinion, you have a flare for the elegant, but you don’t over-do it or make it garish. It’s just stunning , all you’ve done!

I think doing the door and the stair rails is enough to do in gold. Love the chateau banter I will miss that when you sell. Look forward to seeing the walls in the stairwell and upstairs hall painted.

Can’t wait for the walls to be painted or wallpapered so can see that gold door in its glory

Or another idea is to paint the wall around the door in a very striking colour. Maybe a teal green like one of the colours in the dining room wallpaper.

When you were explaining that, I thought oh no! But seen it I think it’s gorgeous. I cannot believe you’ve done this whole thing with a tiny brush. But I don’t think I will like the gold on all the walls. Yes to the crown molding but I would put a beautiful wallpaper with gold in it.

The golden arch needs detailing, something to define the different elevations of trim… you need another color to highlight them… dark brown patterns & trimming painted on top of the gold would look beautiful!

Cant wait to see the end result of this hall, and I would put each of the saved paper in a frame, sorry Gold frame and put it in each room. That way it is safe for ever more. Hugs Dede xxx

I think the scrapbook idea is wonderful. A tangible piece of history. Could you add your paint swatches and other ideas maybe? A bit like a sketchbook?

I think the door to the bedrooms will be marvellous once the wall around it is finished too!

I think everyone should trust the creative process. Carol has a proven track record of making things come to life and beautiful. Painting the door frame gold is no different from hanging a gold mirror with a large ornate frame. Also, it’s just paint if she decides to change it! I believe chateaus should liberally use gold to enhance the architectural features. Her grand salon is an amazing example of said.

Carole, you have such great vision. For some, it may be difficult to see beyond that door frame only because it’s the only thing finished at the moment. It will be beautiful! Love the idea, too, of the trim around the stairs in gold also. It’s grand! You so know what you’re doing.❤️

I love the look of the gold on the door trim. I'm not sold as yet about the door frame. This is likely because it is set against the unfinished walls and as Carole makes reference to the poorly mixed paint in the one section. As with Carole's other ideas through out the Chateau, once complete this will look as though it was built to look this way.
