I think he didn’t want to play the character in the beginning because he didn’t like the script and the studio made him play the character because of contract issues

I read on wikipedia that Mike myers was hard to work with on set as he kept isolating him myself from the rest of the crew in the behind the scenes. He even refused to talk to anyone except for Bo Welch and his assistance. So, this might explain it.

Idc about no damn rotten tomatoes, I loved this movie as a child and still do

I love Cat in the Hat. It was may favourite movie as a child

My favorite book of all time is currently Becoming Dr. Seuss: Theodor Geisel and the Making of an American Imagination by Brian Jay Jones.

It is fun to have fun BUT YOU HAVE TO KNOW HOW! This movie clearly doesn't know how, neither did it have any respect for Dr. Seuss. Look Mike Myers, I'm sure you had fun on the set (the set really does look fun), but did you ever compare the book to the script? This movie made me feel insulted, trashed, and stamped on what I loved about the story in the first place.

+joyunicycle actually mike myers is right, if you think carefully, the film remained faithful to the original story, just including other ingredients like the antagonist and it was convenient to put more fun stuff so that the big ones would enjoy, if you know what i mean, logically, even the charm has the movie

Diegoraf Blasio Well I guess we look at things in a different light. I wouldn't mind the lesson so much if they took out: 1) the forced villain: Did he really have to break in the house or chase after the kids? Everybody already knows who to hate. A giant cat and two kids can be enough to fill a film 2) the unneeded sex and racist jokes ("Dirty hoe", "American canine", erection at the sight of the mom's picture, dressing unnecessarily as a stereotype Texan worker, what was with that party and Paris Hilton?) What do these jokes have anything to do with innocent Dr. Seuss stories? Even as a kid I had a hard time believing that the movie version was dirty compared to the book. I don't care if adults are watching too, these jokes don't fit the movie, they're just shoehorned in. 3) Swearing deliberately and hinting at it. Does that in any way relate to Dr. Seuss? That story was geared towards kids. I felt like this movie had no regard for their audience. 4) The filler. It could have ended if Conrad just told the things not to get the dog and they would. There was no need for the birthday party, underground party, the S.L.O.O.W. car, Things stalling by playing police officer, the house turning into a Universal Studios ride, etc. 5) The SNL filler. As funny as Myers is, I don't want to see him as himself, I want to see him as the cat - maybe fix that costume, he looks like he's having a hard time in it and not as energetic as Jim Carrey as the Grinch. 6) Conrad's old behavior is what the Cat's behavior is suppose to be, why would the Cat have a problem with him being a rule breaker if he himself is a rule breaker? If it was just Sally who needed fixing that would make more sense. Even in the book the Cat was a rule breaker and tried to get the kids into his sense of fun despite they kept trying to get rid of him.

If they wanted to make a spoof movie, that's fine, but then there's no point to having the movie being titled "Cat in the Hat" or relating it to the story, because it has little to nothing to do with the Cat in the Hat; it's just filler.

but it seems a lot kids movies feel the need to add sexual content or content involving genitalia in this case would cat in the hat getting hit from underneath his testicles with a bat that is definitely not needed nor appropriate for a kids movie. the sex jokes & genitalia content have to do with hollywood not the director or cast.
