The Cast Of "Hacksaw Ridge" | BUILD Series

Ойын-сауық

"Hacksaw Ridge" is the extraordinary true story of Desmond Doss [Andrew Garfield] who, in Okinawa during the bloodiest battle of WWII, saved 75 men without firing or carrying a gun. He was the only American soldier in WWII to fight on the front lines without a weapon, as he believed that while the war was justified, killing was nevertheless wrong. As an army medic, he single-handedly evacuated the wounded from behind enemy lines, braved fire while tending to soldiers and was wounded by a grenade and hit by snipers. Doss was the first conscientious objector awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. Interview at AOL HQ in NYC for BUILD Series.

There were several memorable lines in this interview but my favorite is by Mr. Gibson, "I responded to the character of Doss. I don't think I'm like him but I want to be like that, you know? I mean I want to have that kind of unshakable faith and to stand by my convictions and stick to my guns (pardon the expression) but...I look at that and that's what I aspire to be."

Yes, an amazing movie, by an amazing director. But Mr.Doss' story is EVERY bit more amazing. A true gentleman (not so many anymore)and humble Christian. I'm glad I saw his biography before seeing the film..I only wish Mel had spent more time on the story than his love life, (maybe you should to dear, are the babies going to call you daddy or granddaddy, honestly!) I know Dorothy wouldn't mind:) The hands of God worked through this beautiful soul. How many more lives would have been lost had the army rejected him, how many of his fellow soldiers followed his example of faith as a result?! A place had been set at the table of Abraham for Desmond..

I rate it as so high purely because this actually happened, it wasnt given the old Hollywood once over to make it look better, Mel Gibson wanted people thinking about the soldiers and what they went through then and after returning returning home. And he did a fantastic job of doing just that, to the point where at some points in time your almost in tears because the battles he put on screen where so horrific you have no choice but to feel for the soldiers and what they went through.
