The Carnival of Venice Tuba Feature

Музыка

First off, I had to deal with a huge lip zit that night...
It's nothing compared to Øystein Baadsvik's playing, but it is what it is. A bit low quality picture and sound, and the band drowns out the solo a bit, but nevertheless it's still a wonderful song... filmed at Benson Great Hall in Bethel College, Minnesota.

It's nice to hear these variations played on a big horn. I have only heard the Bill Bell recording played on one of the larger tubas. Most opt for the smaller F or Eb models. Nice going. Keep up the good work.

I really liked the Tuba playing, but I thought that sometimes it was hard to hear it because the accompanyment was too loud.

This version of Carnival was written by J B Arban and first published in his Cornet Method - a standard method book for most brass players. The accompaniment was written later, I think by Bellstead. Anyway, it is not difficult to play on the very small Eb used by Oystein (the Miraphone Star Light) which has a 12 inch bell and is not much bigger than a euphonium. Well done for playing it on the King BBb.

or , you're in business. Everyone plays on their own setup.

The negative comments on this are totally unjustified. This guy is playing a "real" tuba - a King BBb. He should be congratulated for playing a solo on a BBb at all! He has a good sound, a very good lower register and a good technique, which is what playing BBb is all about. Lastly, you can't compare this with Oystein, who is playing a very small tuba - not much bigger than a euphonium - which is much much easier to play than this large BBb.

You were puffing out your cheeeks a lot in this one, you need some work on air control. I like hearing the solo though, you played it very well.

Bobofwestoregonusa that's his way to stay relaxed, some professionals do the same thing so I wouldn't really complain about puffy cheeks

Awful? Sucked? Compared to what?? Reasonable viewers of this feature (like most of those above) would consider it a well-played solo of an old standard by a high school musician, recorded with an inadequate microphone. Awful and sucked... that's just mean, or immature. If you don't like the tuba, why did you do a search that led you this? Try being nice, quqaq. High school musicians don't need the Simon Cowell treatment, or worse.

This is why most people don't like the tuba. I am sure you had fun playing it with your band. but that was awful, it sucked. maybe you should play something easier next time.
