The Cardiac Cycle

lp.interactive... - FREE CARDIAC CYCLE GUIDE
We all know that the heart beats. We don't even need to think about it - it just happens. But, there are many details that need to come together in order for it to happen efficiently and effectively.
In this videos, Leslie goes through the concepts involved in the cycle, explaining the phonocardiogram, electrocardiogram (ACG/EKG), ventricular volume and pressure, atrial pressure and aortic pressure.
Enjoy!

Great video! thanks for the explanation. One thing though, the 4th sound has to do with the active filling of the ventricle (due to atrial contraction), not the filling of the atrium. Just like the 3rd is the passive filling of the ventricle, the 4th is the active. Thank you again for the great video!

We had this same diagram presented to us in our NP advanced pathophysiology/physiology course and the instructor just blew through it as if it was something we had been previously exposed to. Thank you so very much!

Yes you are correct. The ventricle AV valves are open and at ventricular low pressure (after relaxation) so the blood will pour in from the atria. Remember you have all that blood coming into the atria from the Vena Cava which makes atria have more pressure than vent. In young people ventricles actually get over 80% of the blood before the atria contract. When you get older however the ventricles get stiffer so that atrial pumping mechanism becomes more important to squeeze that blood in.
