Unless you've lived in a developing country, you have no conception of how things work. It's on another level. What you say is exactly what I was thinking. Mr DeGroote never saw any of it coming till too late. He'll never see a penny of his investment. Lost into a vacuum of third world corruption.

I still don't get why a sophisticated businessman like Michael DeGroote would give these 2 knuckleheads the time of day, let alone $100m. A quick background check would have told him all he needed to know. He's never going to see a penny back from that $100m.

Joe i work at a gas station that is the lead gambling center of my small suburb, i know regulars for years who have problems who invite me to casionos with their own money to play.. i will say thanks to that story i will never walk into a casino for the first time. you lose in the end every time. i see it with the people that play scratch tickets keno and weekly draws every day, nobody is ahead, and if they are they've won big and believe they can again so they reinvest for years.

Whilst it is lucrative doing business in some of these countries, surely, they know the downside of doing so in such countries such as bribery and corruption and as for so-called business men not knowing what Prima Facie means, I find ridiculous and do not believe them as looking at them and listening to them speak, they must be used to a court case or ten and so, understand the legal term “Prima Facie” or in simple terms, on the face of it.

First of all, Dominican Republic's not a wealthy country. Although gambling's legal, these guys put 12 casinos there that are too drain the economy. Yes, people make their own choices but this isn't helping their nation and no one's coming all the way there just to gamble like USA. Therefore, they got caught in their own net because if I can see this issue... best believe a legal system created by man has also created loopholes such as: let's take our money back and drain their economy. They should've have studied the law to organize themselves with better options and positions. Like donate a million for every 10 million to the conservatives to show an act of honor to help build and restore the economy they attempt to so called legally drain.

Most likely they were using the casinos to wash dirty money with clean money coming from Canada. Casinos are only as good as they get with tuff gaming regulatory laws which I don't think DR has. Retribution is probably coming from those who were hoping to launder their dirty money, but got short changed along the way. Now which brother will pay with their lives, this guy has been in prison for 2 years, who's keeping him alive?!!
