My base model 2014 F150 with no upgrades and a 3.7L V6, non eco boost, has 165,000 miles on it and it runs perfect. I plan to run it past 300,000 miles. Why in the world would I ever buy a brand new $60,000 truck with all the new electric garbage and the unreliable eco boost engine, when my current truck would probably outlast the new one? Manufacturers need to keep offering super simple, no eco crap, bullet proof vehicles, instead of all these new fancy tinker toys.
I work for hertz and we are getting a lot of subarus, kia, nssan, Hyundai and big stuf gmc yukons and ford expeditions. Average price on the expedition and Yukon is over $75k.
Toyota/ Lexus has low supply because quality sells fast. I have owned other brands, but my 8 Toyotas (still have 5 of them) don’t let me down mechanically and they hold their value longer.

Toyota supplies are low from the manufacturer building less cars to decrease inventories and selection to increase purchase prices.
The days when I would buy a car just because I wanted to are well behind me. When we stop trusting our primary vehicle (2017 Outback), we'll replace it. When our secondary vehicle (2001 Saturn) reaches end of life, we'll become a 1-car household. This from a car guy who used to have 6 cars. The thrill is gone. 😢

Ray, you are so spot on about people continuing to purchase cars, and were very kind about how you put it. Honestly, consumers can’t get out of their own way because they continue going out there and buying the same overpriced cars they complain about, and it screws everyone. As long as consumers are willing to take on a $1,000+ car payment and buy more car than they can actually afford, manufactures will continue increasing prices.

The clickbait gets really annoying sometimes. Who gives a crap about inventory today versus pandemic low? Where are the numbers from last quarter till now, and year-over-year??
Was in the port of Jacksonville this week and South East Toyota port was full of cars? Land cruisers, prisus, highlanders, camary and 4 runners!! Day supply my tale they are holding!!
How do I find out how many cars are being made and sitting on lots for the mazda3 hatch and sedan?
I used to spend $100 or more filling up my F250 with double tanks, diesel to boot. (sold it a few months ago)
Not to nitpick but I did find a glitch in the CarEdge vehicle search as it pertains to trucks. You can't search by cab type. I was looking for single cab and had to manipulate by drive and price to get any to show up but certain I missed some.
It’s ridiculous how high the MSRPs are and how little dealers are still willing to discount. I appreciate that you use new information to adjust your views.
I drive past Fords Romeo engine plant every day, and for the last 10 years they have a had a section of parking lot not being used. Over a single weekend like 2 months ago a couple THOUSAND new trucks are now filling the lot parked just inches apart.
I purchased a 2018 F150 STX 4 x4 new in 2018 for $45,000. I just priced out a 2024 for 51,390.00. $45,000 x 12% inflation = $50,400.00. So there's that! 1.7% interest.
thank you!
I hope they don't sell shit. The manufacturers have been burning their customers for years and especially during covid !! The prices have skyrocketed over the last 10 years on trucks and SUVs and the quality has been on a steady decline. And now with this push of electric or hybrid vehicles that the majority of people don't want , its leaving a bad taste in the consumers mouths!!
It took all day damn it but I finally got to watch the whole post. I started live and ended at 2:30pm pst.
I'm watching a Bronco at a local Ford lot. Listed a few bucks off at $45000, and 150 days on the lot. Hoping to see more price drops, but not holding my breath.
My local dealer is trying to buy my car back off of me after 3 years since purchasing it. I got it right before the car market took a dump. I asked him why would I dump my car (that I'm $2800 in the green on) just to have to pay more to buy a similar car at a higher interest rate.

@oukastoukast I put on average 4 to 5k miles on it a year. By the time it's paid off I'll have less than 60k on the odometer. Sure, cars lose resale undoubtedly, but I'll definitely be "in the green" for the remainder of my loan, which is all that matters to me at the end of the day. It's irrelevant anyways considering I'm not trading this in and plan on driving it until she blows. IF I ever do sell it, it'll be long after its paid off.
So my question is how do you get the best deal on a domestic SUV in my case a Tahoe loaded with sport package
I ran a comparison between New Brunswick NJ and Sidney NY on a 2023 Jeep a year ago. The identical Jeeps were approximately $42,000 at both locations. However, the average yearly income in New Brunswick was around $64,000, but in Sidney NY, a rural small town, it was $35,000. That Jeep was about 70% of the yearly income in one location, but was almost 130% of the yearly income in the other. It's a big disparity between populated areas and rural areas, where the cost of the Jeeps are the same. Rural people are getting shafted and a greater percentage of their wealth is being taken away for everyday needed items.

Ray and Zack, you say that CarEdge does not play games but today's subject is nothing more than clickbait which is not a good look for you. 1) The Car Market CRASH Of 2024. Where is the "crash?" When MSRPs drop a minimum of 40% that is just getting to where the price should be. 50% or 60% drop and maybe that is a crash. 2) Inventory SPIKES 225%. Only compared to the COVID low. Big whoop. At least add a clarifying comment about it being compared to the pandemic era low and even then it is not a "spike." It is a gradual increase since the low. Compare it to 2019 or a 2017-2019 average to be honest and ethical in your reporting.

they say all this in the video, dont be weak and gay.
Is it the cars price too high or the type of vehicle available? Will be nice to add a filter on your chart for vehicle type (ICE - Hybrid - EV).
Just bc they raise the MSRP does not mean people will pay more. Retail stores try this all the time... hold a sale and raise the base price. Won't work.
I bet we get to see the "new car inventory" number go up to 5 million in no time. Prices are still 5k-10k over sanity levels (minimum). Add to that, anyone who can do basic math knows they're gonna throw away ANOTHER 5k-15k in interest rates. Our lives suck...
I've been saying on this channel and others and I have chewed my wife's ear off, been telling everyone it's going to go back to the way it was. If manufacturing a single Tacoma or Civic so that 25 people can argue over it and start paying $7000 above asking just to be the "lucky one" to take it home, if that business model worked it would have been implemented 50 years ago. What happens is people start to "spill over" into other brands like Mitsubishi for example and Toyota and Honda start to lose market share because people are now looking for alternatives in a capitalist world. That's just how a free market works. Manufacturing 1 car for 25 people and then saying, oh, if you want one of your very own, place an order today and hopefully we'll have it in in 9 months that just doesn't work. It's going to go back the way it was.

Nobody is saying they know when it will happen, but that it will happen. Do you really think people can continue maxing their credit after their money runs out, and it won't have a rebound effect?
Some of the brands on the left are more competitive than the brands on the right because they offer more affordable vehicles to begin with. The Subaru Forester Sport I bought at the end of last year only had about $2000 in discounts below MSRP, but the MSRP on a really nicely optioned vehicle was $35,000. I got a MUCH better deal than getting $10,000 off a $60,000 Ford that's been sitting on the lot twice as long.
Is there a tool or resource that would give you the ability to see what vehicles are sold for?
I agree, and also think that, the manufacturers should be more responsible for, making vehicles easier to repair, rather than, or having to directly only repair to manufacturers or dealers, especially when they try to put the parts supplier out of business too!

Yes most of these dealers still are charging add ons and Honda doesn’t want to give you a discount under MSRP even though their inventory is building.
I think everyone remembers how the dealers increased the prices above sticker price on vehicles when there was a chip shortage. Sometimes raising the prices of pick up trucks by $25,000 above sticker… this was not the manufacturers doing this, this was the dealer’s, I personally remember used car prices going up up up because of that shortage of chips because there were not as many new cars available. And the dealers jacked up the prices on the new cars, so used cars were not being traded in, and they were not available as much as a result, and the ones that were available, we’re selling for almost with the used cars cost when they were brand new, sometimes five years old.. there’s the supply and demand issue on paper, then there’s a greed issue in reality. I thought that was illegal to Jack prices up during a time of shortages with things like food, and lumber. I remember the president saying or claiming that was illegal and to report it when stores check prices up on things like plywood and generators during times of emergency like hurricanes. well, that was sort of an emergency, and the dealer’s were taking full advantage of the situation.. so now, here, a few years later, people remember that !!!!
Save up and pay cash then decide to keep your cash in your hand.
C8's is a bargain now, ima drive one of those
The cost of keeping the car in inventory even for a year is much less than selling it at a steep discount. This is why prices are not decreasing that much.

3 million cars in inventory is small potatoes compared to pre-pandemic levels. Not really sure what the fuss is about? It only looks high compared to pandemic lows.
I visited 2 dealers in the last week and saw a few 2024 with 2 - 5 miles on them and sales man said they were being sold as a used car. Is this some way dealers are hiding these over valued used cars?
Duhhhhhhh! You are saying that chitty car manufacturers, IE almost all of them, are pulling the sos department stores do by having their half off sale but they marked everything up by 50% prior to the sale!!
If you are looking at a brand left of the green buy now. Inventory is low and if you find what you want do it. If you want a car right of the green line wait till a holiday or wait if you dont need. Deals are out there either way. I got a sportage hybrid 1150 under MSRP and got 1600 more for my trade in than expected.
The prices keep going up and so does the inventory...so what money are the dealerships paying their bills with?

MSRPs aren't going to go down YOY. It's a pricing and product growth perception issue. Manufacturers will continue to use incentives as needed to manage inventory levels because these are temporary discounts that don't reflect on the long-term pricing trends. It affects overall profitability, but that can sometimes be offset or otherwise clouded in the financials.
I wouldn't choose my next vehicle based on what has the highest days supply. I'm looking at pricing, quality and resale values. I'd much rather be able to get a slightly worse deal on a Toyota than get a big discount on a vehicle with poor quality, poor resale prices and probably overpriced in the first place. In my life I have bought new cars both with cash and finaced as well it made no impact on me one way or the other as far as getting ahead. One thing i will say is that most of my cars were long term 10 plus years so that to can make a difference.
I get so sick of all these new car commercials touting “get a 1.2% APR or $1500 purchase allowance” but make no mention of the insane price that the interest rate or allowance goes against. Even if I was a millionaire, I would not be spending $60,000+ on a vehicle. I would have to be either completely insane or live in some market where I have no other choices. The automakers need to figure out how to streamline the production, cut out some of the stupid computer things in the vehicles, and get them out at a lower price. Those will be the vehicles people will actually buy in the future.
I guess the question is do you want a great deal on a questionable car ? I'm looking at your Stellantis.
Ray & Zach have been talking about this for over a year. Not going to happen, another bailout will be on the way very soon.
Easy fix: buyers required to put 50% down on new auto loans. Putting a huge chunk down fixes upside down issues when reselling plus forces manufacturers to adjust MSRP prices on their overpriced vehicles.
