I grew up with Marty in Laurel md.....watched him play literally in a wooden barn with the group deuce..........it was an incredible experience watching him play at 14 years old to 18
Marty is a true master musician, a rare talent amidst so many fast but uninteresting bunch...Thanks for the interview.

Don't call him a master musician. His panties get all wadded up.
Marty is one of the best guitarists to pick up the instrument, the things he can play and do on the guitar and make it look easy is incredible
Always tripping on his picking finger and style while picking. He is a legend from Concophony with Jason Becker to Megadeth and now his solo career. He is humble with nothing phony about him!
Marty helped create imo the greatest thrash album of all time ( rust in piece) and imo the greatest metal song ever (holy wars)..
Him and Dave was the perfect storm in my opinion. The Rust in peace alblum was the best album Megadeth made.

One thing I've noticed about successful guitar players is that they NEVER rant about how certain guitar players are so much worse or better than any others. They just focus on what they want to achieve.

The ol' Friedman reach around. Never fails.
Yup, Marty Friedman's guitar playing is as unpredictable as ever! I don't know of any other guitarist appears to spit out notes in any direction at any one time. He's a very angular player. Thank fuck he stays well clear of the blues. Very refreshing.
His picking styling reminds me acoustic gypsy jazz players, using rest stroke formulas, the wrist angle, this guy is amazing.
the way marty holds his pick has always intrigued me...i cant do it myself
日本のみんなマーティ大好き😘 リスペクトを忘れないインタビュアーさんも印象的でした!良い動画をありがとう!
Everyone is talking about nuno bettincourt at the moment but Marty Friedman is right up there on that level and has been pushing boundaries for quite some time himself. Gary Moore, r.i.p. was another on that level. I think even Hendrix would b amazed at where he pushed rock guitarist too. Marty Friedman is original and very talented
I knew this legend Marty Friedman since cacophony days with Jason Becker ... Then Megadeth and solo albums... Friedman is authentic and original guitarist
How did i miss this interview? Good job Captain. Marty has been my number 1 favorite guitarist since Rust in Peace.
I still call Marty a Shredder. Loved him with Megadeth. Never listened to anything else he created. Great guy from the interviews I've watched.
I watched a video of him recording tracks on youthanasia and he really impressed me, I am learning guitar myself and he really is a talented player with a style that I haven’t heard yet. He was soloing on a Jackson V I think and the tone combined with how he plays was on another level. So found my way here to try and get to know him better. He has a lot of wisdom and some good advice for a noob like me lol
I remember opening for cacophony at the Omni to theater in Oakland CA. Jason Becker and Marty were amazing players and cool dudes.
Great interview
That was cool. I do something similar sometimes where I'll change the genre of a song. Rock to Country, Folk to Rock, etc.
Growing up on those Caucophony records back in the day... man... We all had our jaws dropped to the floor.

Mind boggling how Marty dived into Japanese culture and society via national TV. Vitamins ... and vitamins ... and vitamins 😅😂😊 Never heard about ... tks for this interview and presenting this humble and funny master of his art.
If nothing else, his picking technique itself is legendary! How does he play like that?

One of the cool things about pre-youtube is how idiosyncratic players were since there was less shared information. You picked up the guitar and just learned what worked for you. So you end up with much more diversity of style. Now we can see others style and analyze it much quicker, which is awesome, but the downside is an inevitable homogenization of technique and style

Wow! Amazing that you had Marty F on! Such an original artist. I learnt (75% before it got impossible!) 'The Ninja', and learning 'Valley of Eternity' at the moment. His high notes are sooo smooth and with sublime shrill. Absolute inspiration. Thanks for doing this Lee and Team 🤘🏼
I know Marty has done amazing guitar work before and definitely after Megadeth but RUST IN PEACE will ALWAYS be the piece of music as a whole that makes me be in awe of his abilities....just a masterpiece of an album and his work on it is the standout
What a life Marty has had.
There are only x2 instrumental 'Virtuosos' I can listen to for hours without getting bored really quick. Vivaldi and Marty Friedman.
…that intro song, I think, is called " I Think I'm Turning Japanese ( I really Think So)"..............one of mary's favs!!
Virtuoso. Pick up his solo albums. The guy went to Japan and transformed into his final form.
Enormous musician, Marty 🤘🏽😎🔥

Great interview. Love Marty. Amazing player. A little disappointed there wasn’t anything about Megadeth though as it was such a huge part of Marty’s career. Can only guess he didn’t wanna talk about it 🤷♂️ Pity as he’s just after playing again with them again last weekend in Japan
The melodies, the vibrato… Can be nobody else 🤙
Great interview of the most pleasant guitarist to listen. Thank you.
Marty is a fantastic player and clearly a smart guy....
Marty is dead on about the shredder label. His style is very unique and its really obvious in the guest appearance he did with Megadeth in Japan. I love Keiko Loureiro's playing and think he's a phenomenal musician, but when Marty played the "Tornado Of Souls" solo I could literally FEEL the difference. Of course it was emotional seeing him play it in Megadeth after over 20 years but also the experience of listening to the creator play it hit different. Only Marty knows the purpose of every note and you don't get the same impact from someone copying it. I know a lot of people in the comments said they "about" 😉cried watching it and I "almost" 😉cried myself LOL. Thank you for that moment Marty and also thank you for introducing me to the endless great talent in Japan through Rock Fujiyama. I currently am obsessed with phenomenal talent in Nemophila and especially wowed with how impressive their resumes are at such young ages. Anyway, loved the Megadeth "cameo" as well as your solo stuff. Marty Friedman might not have started out wanting to be one of the greats, but he definitely ended up being one.🎸🤘

It is absolutely astonishing how bands haven't been jumping at the opportunity to hire Marty as their lead guitarist all these years. He's a top tier, elite guitar player with charisma, stage presence, and creative chops. If I was in an established band, no question in my mind I would be doing everything I could to get him in my band and make some incredible music.

Loved hearing your story! Honestly, not necessarily a fan, but fellow expat in Japan. Great guitar player! I first heard him with Cacophony and was super blown away by his joining Megadeth.
Captain obviously didn't ask about him about the elephant in the room... Megadeth. Marty must have not wanted to talk about it and made it clear before the interview.
I have ALWAYS been amazed by your Right Hand Technique, Very Effiecient and Incredible weird.
To think he has an audience that doesn't even know he plays guitar makes my jaw drop.
Marty is just about the coolest guy ever!!!
I really like that guitar! And of course doesn't even need to be said his playing is absolutely off the charts. One of the rare ones that shred but it's not just fast its really tasteful!
The legend!
Love your videos Glen - no bullshit, tell it like it is. The "Golden ear" brigade never cease to amaze me really... Double-blind test - perfect! That sorts it right out. 😉 Ever heard of the old HH Electronic amps (British) from late '70's - eatly 80's? I have one, and it sounds FUKN AWESOME! (Think Marc Bolan / T-Rex, and have a look at the Pink Floyd "Live At Pompeii" video... ) I have a 1980 "VS Musician" - has a "tope secret" sealed module in the preamp - basically a couple FETs and a network of inductive filters to give "Valve Sound") Keep it up mate, greetings from down-under. 👍🍻🎸🎶
Always sounds good
Up until recently I never heard of Marty. I know I've listened to megadeth albums and heard him but never knew of him and it's a shame because I believe he is better than so many big names.
Awww man... Marty has gone MASSIVELY up in my 'genuine people of planet earth' respect list:) I now get his esoteric eastern melodic musical approach... I was flummoxxed by this when I first heard his music.... I have massive respect for his 'Fuck the tech.. its about the music, not the knob twiddling' approach to what he is doing... How can you not like this guy..no prtetention. (okay you may not get the music, that's fine.. the man though is a good bloke). All above views and opinions are mine and not necessarily universal :)
Amazing👍👍👍👍👍
You were my greatest inspiration to music along with Jason Becker I had a guitar player in my band talking to dean castranovo if he would play on our cd but didn’t happen but I loved your cacophony stuff
Thanks for this. He’s a living legend ☢️

What's even more impressive about that feat is the prowess and absolute speed of light control he had during Cacophony years, i love Marty s solo era and his megadeth tenure, but i couldnt get over his Cacophony era playing, prime Marty was a beast. He had it all back then, a style of his own, a mastery of his technique and fluid expressiveness, high improvisational skills, if that isnt having lots of talent then i don't know what that is. Having said that, while great and inspirational, his post Cacophony days arent the Marty Friedman who took guitar players by storm. Though the man s still a force to be reckoned.
Great interview. And what a great guy. Tells it as it is. Really like his unique approach to music and how he doesn't get into the techie stuff, just wants to play. I pretty much feel the same way. And I couldn't believe that he likes Viz so much! Ha. I'm from Newcastle and love the humour in there. Refreshing to see an American get it! I'd only heard Marty's Megadeth stuff, I think it's time to listen to his other stuff. He's really piqued my interest now. Great stuff.
Marty is such a class act.
Thank you to the Captain and thank you to Marty!!

Niceeeeee loved it
His right hand looks so uncomfortable and awkward but it sure does work for him
Man I love Marty the guitarist but Marty the human being is even more special and interesting to me. Honest, humble, genius.
Haha Viz!! I now have a renewed respect for Marty, based!

Congratulations on the signature guitar!! It looks and sounds incredible. Not a fan of gold or chrome. Curious if it is available with black or brushed hardware. I will check it out. I have a Fusion HH T style and it is punching way above it’s weight 🤘🏻

I'm the same as Marty. High gain, delay for solos and a wah. That's it. I'm not picky. I have an EVH 6L6 which is great and high end LTD models. They play fantastic. The newer ESP's for $5000 grand just aren't worth it. Maybe if E-ll kept the ESP logo I'd get one of those but not going to pay that much when the deluxe 1000 series play so good.
