The Kroot are an interesting example of parallel evolution to the Tyranids as they are two different species that use the DNA of their prey species to get better adaptions to survive in this hostile galaxy, but the difference is that the Kroot are a individual minded race while the Tyranids are a hive mind race.

@@Lowlyking2001 Not necessarily. Look at the Orks. They've been struggling to return to their genetic roots of the Krork, ever since the Enslaver Plague. It's also been said that the Kroot used to be more technologically advanced (hence Warspheres), but have either lost the majority of their tech, or shunned it due to past misteps.

Too easy. To cite Earth as an example, the earliest lifeforms on Earth would literally absorb the genetics of their prey. In this way, they were able to "evolve". While life on Earth certainly evolved away from needing or using the genetic material of their prey, the Kroot never lost this ability. Thus, any species they preyed upon with compatible DNA, they could assimilate by eating it. This is not the same as the Tyranids who actively and intelligently analyze and recombine DNA to make additions and modifications to their bioforms, much as The Borg simply analyze and reconfigure and adjust their systems to adapt, to new challenges and prey. The Tyranids are not slave to the particularities off their physiology able to pick and choose and correct errors, at will. Meanwhile, the Kroot have to be careful what they eat. In this way the Tyranids show they are more an artificial lifeform than the Kroot being natural if obviously alien to the Human biological experience.

The Kroot are a fascinating species with an interesting culture. Would like to see more interactions between them and other factions in novel form.

I can't help but feel that the Kroot understand the realities of the setting better than the Tau themselves, but the Tau view the Kroot as useful savages, and so don't value their input as much as they should.

The kroot are one of the species that draws me to the tau. I plan on building mostly a carnivore squad of kroot with the various forms the kroot tend to take.

To be fair, the Imperium did xenocide a lot of peaceful Star Wars and Star Trek style minor species. But then again a lot of minor xenos are just as fucked up as the Orks etc

What are your favourite faction/army? Lore-wise or to play, oh humble Skull?

If only my teachers in school growing up had this level of dedication to teaching things, especially subjects that weren't of interest or downright dislike (The Greater Good), I'm sure my opinion of it would greatly be improved.

The only reason i dont add Kroot to my tau army is because i have zero painting talent otherwise i would happily have a combined force. What i really want to know is how a the Kroot would adapt to Catachan.

You have to admit the Tao lucked out massively on teh kroot, not only they are not eating them, they were in the perfect position to save the kroot. ensuring loyalty. Sounds insane f you consider that this is 40 k althouh that does take a 180 when they met the imperium, Come to think of it did you spoke of this already? Because if you are doing Tao, i for one can't wait for you to cover them meeting the imperium. It will be hilarious i can bet you could hear the sound of the Tao commander's brain just snapping then fizzling out.

Anyone want Guilliman to get a Kroot advisor to balance his Eldar one? But seriously, the Kroot are another form of oppressive society, but you can see the potential for some of them to wise up and strike out on their own path. And of course, they are individuals, even if they have a cult of sacrifice rivaling the Imperial Guard.

It's why this is my favourite 40k channel. Instead of 'oh, it's dark, it's depressing, you shouldn't play it if you don't like what I like about it', it's 'you're playing a game where you get to make cool stories for the little plastic people you've lovingly painted. Enjoy it!' And I love that. The sheer enthusiasm and support for players new and old is wonderful.

@@garethbancroft855 that's really interesting - so, full disclosure, I've only recently picked the game up again after a 20+ year absence. It's why I follow channels like Baldermort's, to re-immerse myself and see how things have developed. So it's genuinely fascinating that it's come so far that you don't need to play the game at all to enjoy the thing. Pretty cool, and you do your thing! You're definitely right about 2000AD, even down to some of Moore's aesthetics trickling in.

Hero of the Imperium eating chicken - no problem, not worth noting. Chicken of the Empire eating hero: OMG! How outrageous! Classic double standards from the lesser good faction! 😁 But fortunately for the Kroot, the Emperors most tender custodes is delivered with a long stick.
