We use Ballistol for that purpose. Great stuff, you can use it for everything, and it hardly smells. Very traditional product, too.

Should you lightly spray zipper tracks lightly also and wipe off?

Thank you for helping me maintain my Kodiak tent. Over this past summer I have lived for extended period of time over 4 months in this tent. It has been a wonderful experience especially in thunderstorms and downpours when one gets close to the force of nature. My tent remained dry. I noticed a lot of mould and mildew grow all over the white part of the canvas. And I felt it was unhealthy and I tried to clean the entire tent inside and outside with dawn dishwashing fluid. It didn’t remove the ugly splotches on canvas roof. Last night was a tremendous downpour and the tent stood up to heavy winds but I noticed a few leaks . What should I do to clean mildew and fix seam leaks? Thanks.

Hi Shelley. Thank you for your question. Mould is a living organism that must have moisture to grow & survive. If you live in a moist environment (ie: wet / humid / tropical etc...) & you have a tent erected for a long period of time.... mould will eventually attach & grow. (Here is a link to the Queensland Government website regarding mould {It's biased towards housing, but will explain a bit about mould}: www.forgov.qld.gov.au/prevent-or-treat-mould ). If mould has attached to your tent - it must be dealt with & fast! Unfortunately most mould removal solutions usually also remove water proofing in canvas tents & therefore you will also need to re water proof your tent if this is the case. As you can imagine, I cannot recommend natural mould removal solutions as tent manufacturers wont support warranties - but feel free to research! As far as the ugly splotches - don't confuse the mould 'stain' left in your canvas as being the mould still attached & alive. If it is just the stain left (mould is dead & or removed) - leave it & put up with the ugliness of it (Don't harshly scratch - rub or high pressure wash the canvas - you could damage the cloth). Hope this helps Shelley - talk soon! Jarrod

Please drop the irritating background noise. I like your videos, and find you interesting and knowledgeable, but difficult to hear you easily with that damn background music.
