Got mine a week and a half ago, upgrading from a 5D Mk3. Been shooting video on Panasonic GH for the last 6 years. Stoked is an understatement.

Excellent review! Did you color grade, film in raw or is the color on this video footage just with the camera out of the box?

Appreciate it! Majority of the clips are shot in Clog 3 with certain shots in 8K filmed in RAW.

Great video and thanks. I have an R5 and love it but I am 99% video only and finally decided the R5c is right for me. Unfortunately, all are back-ordered so I get to wait 🤨

You're going to love it! Definitely recommend investing in a USB PD charger since it will help for longer shoots, but other than that it truly is an amazing camera and am glad to have gotten it near release!

Ultimately if you have Canon accessories, go with Canon. If you have Sony accessories, go with Sony. There's no real point in comparing two cameras from different manufacturers since there will likely be a camera that will work for you in your ecosystem. If you're starting from scratch, I'd recommend to rent or try out some models at a local camera place for what you feel comfortable with and go from there! For vlogging, highly recommend a 16-35 or 15-35 for RF!

How is the battery life with photo mode only? is it similar to R5 or still worse?

With the photo mode, battery life is similar to the R5. I think that the photo menu as been better optimized for LP-E6/NH batteries (and also that the fan doesn't operate in that mode). With the Cinema OS, it's only been primarily on Canons Cinema Cameras which take in a different battery and feel like they'd need to do more work to have it better optimized for the R5 C since its much different than the others, but for now still recommend getting a USB PD portable charger for video.

Have you figured out how much time the Anker PD power block can provide? I got the same one for my R5C. My longest shoot was 7 hrs and I’m trying to figure out if I should keep two in my kit.

@@ryanghidoni1489 That’s awesome! Haven’t done any major battery testing yet, but seems like a reasonable amount of time with the Anker charger. I’d say that for back to back shoots using the R5 C when there’s not much time to charge in between, it’d be nice to have an extra on standby just in case!

Video only uses 40% of the battery then shuts down, flip it to photo you’ll see..

Yup I'm aware of it! Believe it's the natural state of the Cinema OS as a safety measure so that way clips will be able stored safely rather than risking the footage to be corrupt. Personally feel that Canon needs to do more work in firmware to make it better suited for the R5 C, but otherwise there are ways around it :)
