The Call Of The Mountain | Everest Base Camp Trek | Mount Everest | Nepal
After three long years of waiting I finally head to Nepal to trek the famous trail to Everest Base Camp. As one of a group of 12, this film chronicles individual dreams, experiences and the determination of everyone involved. Through tiredness and altitude sickness, to elation and educational insight, memories were made and will never be forgotten.
My biggest adventure yet and my biggest film to date. This was filmed in Nov 2022.
The trek was booked through @EverTrekUK

Thanks for this great EBC trek vid. Really enjoyed it, nice to see the realism!
One of the best EBC treks on KZread! Planning on doing it April 2024. Hoping I won’t suffer the effects of alt sickness. Great vid!
Brilliant sound track!!

Really enjoyed this, a fair attrition rate due to altitude sickness, I'm doing it in October 2024 at 62. Again well done great video, like other's have commented, very much amongst the best.

No problems, I'm quite experienced, going with 5 of my ex Army buddies, and a guide they have used before, so for 2 of the guys it's a well beaten track, still learned a lot from your video though.
Fantastic video. I’ve been watching videos on trekking to EBC for the last 18 months and this is the best I’ve watched. It has me both inspired and terrified. I go in March.

One of the best documentaries/films of the EBC trek.
Amazing film, Ian! Well done on all aspects of the hike (surely there is a better word for such an epic undertaking), the filming, editing, scoring, and general vibe and concept! Thanks for sharing this incredible experience with the world! This is not something I would attempt but I admire the hell out of you and your group for all you achieved! Last but maybe most of all, the awesome team from Nepal who made it possible - all a testament to what humans showing their humanity and support for one another can achieve! 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏
Refreshing to watch a video of the trek which not only includes how amazing an experience it is but also shows how difficult it can be for people and the affects of the altitude. I did it in September this year - an experience il never forget but fun it definitely was not at times. Your video shows a true reflection of the journey for a lot of ppl.
Amazing film! I had a tear in my eye when you hit Base Camp, too!
Every part of the trek has many ups and downs, ups and downs.
Very nice and honest recap of your hike to Everest base camp, not only the happy path, but also including that some really suffered of altitude sickness. Well done 👍
The first hill on second day got me I was spent no energy but a good night sleep I woke up fine and completed the walk there and back you are Going in the opposite direction to us we did monastery in the last days and I did it drug free and I was in my 50s we lost one to sickness he got chopped back to Katmando

It was indeed the Pocket 2 and X2. 😊
What an amazing video 👏🏼 I go in a few weeks and this was very helpful. Can i ask, I was really concerned at the amount of people falling quite ill with the altitude. Were many people taking diamox for the duration of the trek or just as and when they felt they needed it?
@TheHikeBegins
Жыл бұрын
Many thanks for your comments. Not all of the group took Diamox, some had begun taking it before they departed for Nepal, others took it as and when they felt they needed it. It's really a lottery, you simply may or may not suffer. I got very lucky, but also feel that maybe being focused on filming distracted me from thinking about it. Your trekking guides should be able to advise you better, but they are trained to recognise the signs early. The acclimatisation days will really help.
Just started your video, great so far! Congrats on your accomplishment. Can I ask which company did you book through?
@TheHikeBegins
Жыл бұрын
Hi, I booked through @EverTrekUK. No issues with the service at all. The whole trip went smoothly.
Great film, thanks 😊 I’m hoping to do this next year but am worried if there’s any exposure along the paths? I couldn’t walk along the Bright Angel trail in the Grand Canyon because of it.
@TheHikeBegins
Жыл бұрын
It can be quite exposed but not dangerously so as the paths are wide. However there is no path in the final half hour or so before reaching base camp and a lot of scrambling over rocks will be required.

If you don’t mind, would you please tell the exact days of your trek. When did you arrive at Everest Base Camp? I know the video was posted on Dec. 7. I saw a particular ‘sign’ on the Rock. I guess your reached EBC sometime between 11/15/22 to 12/7/22.

Hi, the trek began 17/11 and we hit Base Camp on the 26/11. Flew back to Kathmandu on the 29/11.
What month of the year was this hike ?
Taking on this challenge September 2023. your video shows a side that others seemed to have skipped. the real struggles with the altitude of which i’m not looking forward to. Did the solar charger work ?
@TheHikeBegins
Жыл бұрын
It's a lottery with the altitude sickness. I was very lucky, but honestly I think the key is to not think about that aspect too much. I was distracted with filming so I think that helped. Solar Panel was fantastic, probably the best bit of kit I had taken, but of course we had sunshine constantly so I always had charge.
Great film. Can I ask what camera you use ?
@TheHikeBegins

DJI Pocket 2 for the majority and the Insta360 One X2 for the overhead shots.

Thanks, I have a DJI Osmo Pocket1 and was wonering whether I should buy an additional power stick (handle with built in battery) ... how did you find the battery life on your pocket2. Did it need to be recharged often ?
@TheHikeBegins

I had a solar panel clipped to my backpack so I constantly had charge. Well worth an investment. I was able to keep topping up the batteries as charging points at the teahouses are slow.

HI .... sorry 1 more question, I've been having a play with my borrowed DJI OSMO Pocket 1, it seems to do a good job set at 4k 60frames. I'm not sure whether to experiment with the Pro settings. Did you use Pro settings and will I need ND filters due to how bright it will be in the Himalayas
@TheHikeBegins
9 ай бұрын
Don't use Pro settings unless you plan on colour grading when editing. The image won't be as vibrant as it's designed specifically to be graded to preference. I had this turned off. Didn't use any ND filters. Quick tip, shoot in 2.7K/60 rather than 4K/60. The difference in battery life will be more helpful as it won't drain so quickly. I shot in 2.7K.

On the trek from Namche to Tengboche, don’t forget to look down the valleys and you will see Tenzing Hillary Suspension Bridge spanning across Dudh Koshi River, then you can tell how high up you are.
