The Californians is the most consistently funny sketch on SNL because of Hader, Armisen and Wiig always breaking character and laughing at each other. Bill Hader is my favourite SNL cast member since Will Ferrell he's a funny dude.

I am a native Californian and this is a hundred percent true! I don't talk that way but I do talk about the streets and freeways and all of that! I love how they ham it up it's so hilarious 😂

I worked in L.A. for a year, and the funniest part of these sketches for me is that everyone really does describe the roads they take to get places! lol

Lived there for 10 years, getting around is a big part of the culture there, knowing short cuts and the easiest way to get somewhere is the Holy Grail of day to day life. It's the same way with public transit, my last two years there I had no car, I could tell you what bus to take and when to be at the bus stop for the quickest route and when there would be the least crowds. I went from Long Beach to Santa Monica to Hollywood 4 days a week using buses and trains.

What I said was true in my own experience, and for the people that wrote those sketches, that's where they came up with the idea. Your own experiences don't invalidate everyone else that has experienced it, or mean that we're all making it up to get likes on KZread. It's fine if you want to share your own experience, but I stand by what I said, because it actually happened to me.

I never realized that we had an accent until I was 13 and went to another state. People picked it up right away and I was like, what...? This sketch also made me realize how much we talk about freeways and almost brag when we take the 5 to the 57, and hop on the 91 east and hit zero traffic on Green River, LOL.

I grew up in Texas but oddly always had a Californian accent with a few "off" words that were 100% Texan or spoken like a Texan. Went into the Marine Corps, stationed at Camp Pendleton, and fit right in. I corrected those few misspoken words, and learned to talk about highways properly. PCH was always my fave especially near Laguna but I hated the 805 when we'd go see the Padres. So we'd just take the 5 all the way to the 8, then north on the 15 and just exit Friars Rd.

nathan 68 lived in Cali most of my life and have only ever heard someone talk like that when trying to intentionally sound like what people not from here think we sound like. Although people do mention the freeways and interstates a lot to to traffic.

LIKE you are so right! But lezbehonest… today’s Californians like follow their phone app directions, because it’s like, updated with the latest accidents on the 5 and the 10. (But for real, never drive between 3 and 7pm. It’s a freakin mess!) .

I am definitely surprised how Bill didn't break at the close ups part at the end!

I grew up in Santa Barbara California. You take Sepulveda to the 405 North, then get on the 101 at Thousand Oaks. Keep going till you reach Santa Barbara, exit on Salinas, then continue on to Alameda Padre Serra, turn right onto Mission Canyon...

I prefer the scenic route on PCH to go to santa Barbara. I just take the California incline in santa monica down to PCH, and cruise all the way up to Santa Barbara bro. But I do make a pit stop at the Chevron/taco bell at Sunset

The Californians may be the best skit of SNL of the decade. The title, acoustic guitar, the mirror of vanity, white wine, accents, and freeway talk. It always establishes a beginning, conflict, and a return to the mirror in the end which always works. It’s a one of a kind classic.

I am watching this in California, in Beverly Hills at an outdoor coffee place and most of this is so dead on. In the beginning he said (the one with the date) he took the 405 north. I used to live in So Cal and it's great to hear the names of all those streets and freeways again! They're so familiar...when you live there you have to use the major arteries to get around unless you want to spend hours of stop and go on small side streets...with all those stop signs and lights!
