What a cool trip! Just too much to comment on... I'll just mention that you went through Tehachapi. (I have family there.) Google "Tehachapi Loop" sometime to see one of the early railroad engineering wonders of the world. But you've planted a seed. I used to take long road trips every summer. Gotta do it again!
