This reminds me of the expulsion of the Acadians (French settlers) from what's now Maine and the Maritmes of Canada in the mid 1750's. They were deported by the British to many places including South Louisiana and these people eventually became the Cajuns. The poet Longfellow wrote about this in his epic romantic poem, Evangeline. The wars that settled the USA and Canada were massive. Fascinating stuff.

Nova Scotia is now what used to be Acadia. England in the 1700s wanted it. Sent Scottish Soldiers and they ran them out. many including my relatives settled in Lousiane. They were fishermen so it was a great place to fish. My relatives opened up a General Store. Just a quick (hopefully pretty accurate) history...
