When Chely did this song in Baghdad in September 2004, she bawled her eyes out. Saw her in concert there & saw a few scenes from that USO concert in his video. It showed where I was standing but I did not get to see myself. Sat up near the front row. I got to meet her after the concert too. What a sweet, patriotic woman she is.

Wow. I didn't know it was based on an actual incident. So glad you still have the article. My son is a Marine. Served in 2009 - 2010, Afghanistan. His grandfather earned a Purple Heart on the beaches of Normandy. I cry every time I hear this song. We are blessed with so many brave young men and women still willing to serve our country.

I don't support the war machine but I sure do support the troops. Thanks Chely for this great song. Turning a horrible response from a horrible person into an award winning song and support for those who are fighting for what they believe in, even if they are fodder for the oil-money-war machine, they still deserve recognition for the courage and valor they exhibit. Gracias! Our troops deserve more help and support for the illnesses, PTSD and more they experience when they finally come home, if they come home at all. They have too often been abandonded by our government and people after all the "patriotic displays." Give real support NOW when they NEED IT!

I sang this song the other night at Karaoke. I was at a military survivors retreat. I lost my baby brother who was a Marine October 23,2016 to sucide. I told the group at the bar why I sing this song ( big group of guys were there at a bachelor party) and who were were at the table( all of us had lost our military hero) they all took off their hats and not a peep was made while I sang it.. two of my friends came and stood on either side of me as I started melting down as I started to sing ( I suck at singing) but this song means the world to me as I have that bumber sticker.. I miss my brother every single day.. thank you Chely for writing this and I hope someday to get to sing this with you.

Jody Ranisate I’m so sorry. I’m a Marine Corps Veteran myself and luckily was unaffected but so many I’ve known have not been so fortunate. Singing this was such a great way to honor our fellow brother. Semper Fi! 😥🇺🇸

Hard not cry, Chely, as an old (76) Marine SGT. After getting out of the Corps, I went back to college in the late .60s. While Mother's and Father's sons and daughter, and husbands and wives of sons and daughters were dying, I watched way too many people they defended dishonor itheir loss of life, limbs, and mental peace. Your entitled Minivan drivers or 'whatevers" needs to hear your tribute and learn something. God Bless You for caring enough to make this soulful song to beautifully. Heartbreaking. Thanking to those who served and lost their lives and to whom survived and struggle with the aftermath. I'm crying now, I don't know what else to say. May peace prevail.

Great song! I found it on a CD I got at the rummage store for a dollar. I can’t remember from the time, though.

Awesome song Chely! I first fell in love with it when I was giving my nephew his sound off from you know where all Marines love. I don't even half to tell you. I'll just say East Coast. It totally brought tears to my eyes. Don't give me the Air Force jokes. My Dad was Air Force, and he did his time. People judge too much now. I have so many military in my family and friends that I just don't get the hate, and ugly. BTW, your brother is HOT! Nothing like a Marine in his dress blues. You are amazing!

Thank you Chely for singing it like it is. I'm a veteran myself and a son, nephew, son-in-law, and husband of veterans. All of you who disrespect our military and veterans by giving the middle finger, kneeling during the national anthem, and posting comments here, you are entitled to do whatever you want, not because of the Constitution but a military service person died so you can do whatever you want to do, just remember that.

I may be the first to say this, but not the only one who believes is. Chely is an amazing artist that has set foot in more hot spots than most soldiers in support of the troops. I proudly tip my hat to you and all that you do for each and every serving member regardless of nationality. A HUGE thank you for being you and taking the time to bring some joy to an otherwise desolate place. I'm a proud Canadian and could wish nothing more from any performer. EWold dog There's no way she could know for sure unless the other lady rolled down her window and yelled at her. I doubt that happened. If someone flips you off in traffic its because your probably driving too slow or nit moving at a green light or generally not paying attention to the road because of yacking on a cell phone or whatever. While it is a great song I think Chely got her panties in a bunch over nothing.
