"THE BUILDERS"
In the mid 1950ʻs, labor missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints gathered in Laie, Hawaii to begin the construction of the Church College of Hawaii, to later be re-born as Brigham Young University Hawaii. These unpaid laborers came from the isles of the sea with the spirit of love, sacrifice and determination and built a University where students from the Pacific and beyond could gather to further their education in a multi-cultural and spiritual environment. This short film includes observations and reminiscences of many of those amazing labor missionaries.

Couldn't agree more… Laie is a special place filled with special people. I’m forever grateful for my years there.

@@garybsmith1 well done Gary. I see you're still up to doing 👍. (CCH/BYU '70-'75)
Gary, I am shedding tears over this wonderful video. My dad was also a labor missionary in Laie (1960-1963, 197?) and was in charge of the electrical work (He worked with Tony Haiku). I was just an 8 year-old kid in paradise. My four years there became a primary force in my life, as I fondly remember the unsolicited generosity directed my way from these humble and dedicated brethren. Percy and others in the sheet metal shop crafted a metal canoe for me, complete with double outriggers. Since we lived in a beach house right across from the PCC, I was able to launch it into the blue waters of the pacific and became, in that brief time "native." FYI, I have uploaded PCC and other construction footage from that time to my KZread channel. Part of the PCC dedication ceremony is there also. Again, thanks for posting these precious memories!
RIP Solomone Toki was a Labor Missionary to join from 🇹🇴Tonnga❤
