If only Gibson had a CEO that had the passion and love for his product that this man has... wow. This guy sold me on, not just Music Man basses, but, the company as a whole.

I know what you mean. I had been using a MIM Fender and a Sire...sold em both and bought a Music Man Stingray Special. This guy convinced me 100% on the purchase. Like you said, the passion was perhaps what sold me on both the product and the company.

As the owner of 2 stringray specials a 4H charcoal sparkle and a 5HH tectonic blue sparkle, I can say the passion this guy has for the instruments is amazing and these instruments are next to none in quality. These are truly the best instruments I’ve played.

I grew up playing and loving Fender basses. When I first heard and played a MM bass, it was like a revelation. They took the Fender P and Jazz and refined it. The attention to detail shows and feels when you play one. I was broke for many years and couldn't afford a MM. Now I have 3 of the best basses I have ever played; 2 - 90's H4 Sterlings and a Sting Ray 5. Someday I dream of creating a custom one, but until then, I love to watch these videos. Ironically enough, I bought them all at Guitar Center.

I've had my '88 Stingray since 1993 and I think it'll be my forever bass, others come and go. BUT it's a personal thing. The tone, the feel, the looks - they work for me. No matter how well made the MusicMan instruments are (and they are well made) or how good they sound (and they do) they have a lot of personality so if you get on with them you'll LOVE them, if not you can't just make do (which I can with my Jazz and my Ibanes - both are fine, do the job well but I'd ditch them in a heartbeat for something better).

Keeper. I was immediately delighted. The bass is thoughtfully crafted and is the perfect blend between vintage and modern. Comfortable as heck, it’s a tone monster. It reminds me of a restomod; a classic with modern amenities and all the tones I could want. Although some slapping flash has a learning curve with the space between the front pickup and the neck, the tone pays major dividends. I immediately peeled off the back tag and gladly called it mine. Great job, Ernie Ball!! Wow. Still stoked.

Funny Story here: Sold all my Rays, (a classic and a standard ray) because i realised the special is all i need. The top end of the special is not less harsh compared to the older ray models but, and this is important, not as "weak G kind of" thin sounding due to the new preamp and pickups.Sounds a bit different but def. not less stingrayish, which is the most important thing. The specials alway sounds like a ray ever did with that typical defined low end and that zing and clear sharp top end but as i said less thin, which is damn good. By turning mids and highs totally up, you will totally get that agressive high mid clanky zing sound BUT with more body in its tone and less thin, which is good for you cutting through the mix and its good for a balanced output too. Check this review out and you will get an idea of what im talking about. kzread.info/dash/bejne/l4OLqZWmoM3FY8Y.html So Big Poopa is correct - its still a stingray and you can get all those sounds you expect from a ray but more - just with your onboard EQ and flat Eq on your amp. And the best thing is that you can still get that classic agressive high mid top end kinda tone if you want but witouth getting too thin sounding in the higher frequencies. Simply a masterpiece on a new level. Creating such a classic bass like the SingRay new, without letting the character from this instrument go away was not that easy i think. But it was worth it. They did not take anything away which sculped the classic sound of the ray we know and love. Its still all there and you will not miss anything.

I've owned several EB Stingrays, and 3 Pre EB's.I now only have a Natural Ash(Velvet)Stingray 5,heavy.But it looks/sounds fabulous. My only compliant about ALL 1 pickup Stingrays(AND all other"sweet spot",1 MM pickup basses); When you play a lick high on the fretboard;whether popping, slapping,or picking..You DROP OUT OF THE MIX.It would be SO nice to have a"hidden/discreet",low output pickup in the neck or middle position.Hit a small switch/button to quickly engage/disengage.NOT that big, clunky MM middle position on HH's.Cuz I love slapping on my one pickup SR5.It's just missing THAT frequency when playing on the high register.Just my two cent's.

I always loved Stingrays. If Stringrays existed, world would be totally fine, no need for Fenders etc. even, I think it's a staple. You can get every sound there is with it and I don't even own one myself, they are waaay too heavy and that's the only reason I don't have one...and the price lol

One of the big changes to the new line is the fact that they're a lot lighter. My Stingray (4 strings) is almost 10 lbs. The new ones report even lower than 8.5. Everything up to 9 would be perfect to me, which is why I'm gassing for a new one.

US Sterlings are everything a Stingray is, but even better (as long as you like their slim, Jazz-style neck). They're smaller, lighter (mine weigh 8 and 8 1/2 pounds), faster, I find them more attractive, the preamps are a little more powerful, the pickups are a little hotter (you can make a Sterling sound like a Stingray, but not necessarily vice versa), and they're WORLDS more versatile. I don't know why no one seems to care about them. I think they're the greatest mass produced electric bass ever produced.
