Smith machines get unnecessary hate. Smith machines helped me break through plateaus on overhead and bench press. Very handy to push to failure without hesitation when working out alone. I don't use them for squats but they are great for bench and overhead.

I celebrate the day I brought a Bodycraft 3D smith at auction for $400. I wasn't even sure what when I brought it but it was new and cool looking. The auctioneer was annoyed I took so long to take it apart and get it out of the basement of the house. It has been great for 70% of the work I have done for the past 11 years

Have had my force USA g3 for 4 years now. This thing is actually quite amazing for a limited space home gym option. Surprised coop didn’t mention the leg press attachment as that was the one item that pushed me to purchasing mine over competitors. My G3 has been able to do all my exercise needs and wants for push pull and legs. I bought the Force USA bench seat with leg attachment and modified it with rollers to attach to the cable machine and can do a full leg day with my machine now from leg press, leg extension, and leg curl. The smith makes loaded lunges easier and Bulgarian lunges. My wife loves using the smith and I can still do my normal benching with the rack. I will agree with coop though that the lat pull down sucks due to the angling. I fixed up a shorty seat so I can get full extension and get as close as I can do the rack for a better angle and it uses a seat belt attachment to keep me secure. Not ideal but it works fine. My g3 also has the land mine attachment and that works great for isolation exercises too. Force USA had free shipping when I bought mine and a military discount so I only paid like $1700 delivered to my door with a free bar for another one of their promos. I honestly have not had a single problem with mine and still works great. I legit don’t see needing anything else big equipment wise. Force USA g3 with bench seat, some adjustable dumbbells, and a cardio machine. About all you need tbh. If you want more, you either have a gigantic garage or really should be using a gym lol. Oh, and fwiw, I don’t do squats anymore. My back can’t handle it so I didn’t have a need for full squat rack. If you lift heavy squats like that, I would not recommend one of these. If you bench heavy, this thing is fine. It’s really squats where it wouldn’t work.

This G3 NEEDS to be put up against the Major Lutie SML07. They are basically 1:1 as far as I can tell with the SML07 running around $1200 at the moment.The only difference being 11 vs 14 gauge steel.

I’ve had this for a year and have loved it apart from the plate loaded cables. The pain of changing the weights on those made me just pick exercises that didn’t use cables more often than not. My wife loves using a smith and we don’t have the space for a separate machine so we’re upgrading to the G15 now. It seems to be pretty much the G20 but with side plate storage which saves a lot of space. We’ll see how it goes

I have an Atlas Strength version of this, with two 130lb stacks. Although i can purchase additional plates for the stacks, what i did was drill between the pull up bars and place pulleys on both sides and can now use both stacks utilizing an adaptor plate, connecting the cables. Bloody perfect now!

Not sure if Sam thought of this yet. But make a KZread Channel assembling these beasts.

I’ve had mine for a couple of years now and love it. When I put it together, I found a KZread video from Force USA South Africa and they show you how to assemble it. Saved me a lot of time. Love the reviews Coop.

Not sure I like the new designed one but that’s also because the one I use is on the older G3 with the safety bars. Due to the safety bars, I can lock the angle of the plate so it doesn’t swivel around on me. The new model cannot do that since you need it to swivel to get it in the safety hooks. The bars imo were superior and sucks they got rid of them.

Hey Coop. Just saw your channel and love your detail reviews. I'm on the new years kick to try to build my home gym on the cheap with some new and used equipment. I stumbled across functional trainers and went down a rabbit hole due to their versatility. My wife and I recently purchased a Mikolo M4 Smith Machine on Amazon on the after Christmas Sale due to the price and exercise value. It is very similar in design/function/price to the ForceUSA G3. I think a review on that machine would be great to compare the 2 machines.

I had the G3 for 4 years and it was great. The price is right and it did everything I wanted. They also give a 10% military discount which put the price for me at 1800 and they were giving free shipping when I got it. I upgraded to the Rep Ares this year so I sold it but it was a great rack. I was just tired of adding weight plates.

I have one of these and love it. So glad you reviewed it. Curious though as it only took me and 1 other person about 6 hours to build it. Maybe me being an engineer helped but Id figure someone experienced like Sam would be fast too

As much as I love (and want) the Rep Ares, the permanence of its position, either in the garage which I’m remodeling, or the lower ceiling (91” clearance) storage area in the basement, makes me a bit weary. As a result it has me eyeing up different functional rack setups or options that do similar things. This rack does a lot and I love the engineering of the plate loaded off set system. Reminds me a bit of the Buffalo Bully, but more options with functional trainer placement. I need to see their version of the jammer and potential pull-down or low row attachments to be more convinced but this is most definitely on the radar for me.

If I was building a home gym from scratch, I'd definitely get this + an independent lat pull down/low row combo that attaches to a wall. But since I already have a wall mounted rack, I'll probably build my own solution with two cable towers and a single lat/row in the middle and have it all plate loaded. Low profile and extremely versatile.

Agreed with most of your take but if you buy this over the Major Lutie, Ritfit, etc. you're basically paying $1000+ extra just for a smith machine

Not sure if you guys already do it, but it would most likely help alot if you record your assemble and upload it. Just for those who are stuck at somepoint or want to what is used etc.

First of all I'm team stand alone functional trainer and stand alone rack. If you have the space it just nice to have them separate. Second I'd love to see the ForceUSA G3 compared to the Marcy SM-4033. Thanks.

Mikolo M4 has a power cage with functional trainer and smith machine. Maybe it could be comparable with that one. It is 500 dollars cheaper.

I have the Force USA G9 (I'm not sure they're making it anymore) but I know on mine and it looks the same on the G3 here that there is hardly any grip to the pull up bar...its a pretty thin and slick plastic material; would be nice to see them upgrade to a thicker maybe rubber grip in the future! Overall I LOVE my unit though and have had awesome experience with Force USA customer service

I had one from powertec. I just sold it though to get a G3.

When you have too many bells and whistles, the bells tend to whistle and the whistles tend to bell.

Small space and find a smith machine incredibly helpful. Currently have the Marcy 4903. Downside is limited smith machine travel on the lower side, no stacks, and pulleys are only low and high. Would replace with REP & stacks, but don’t want to part with the smith machine. I’ve been holding out for rack + smith machine + stacks that will fit in a basement (low ceiling) Maybe, someday …

If you like the rep stacks but love your smith then the ForceUSA products are the way to go. I’d look at the g6 or g15. Both are stacks with the smith and can still use half rack for bench and squat.

Of course he will! I am a little surprised that it only goes up to 60 pounds. That will probably accommodate about 50% of the market tho. And they’re extremely quick.

Great review. I’m having a hard time nailing down what I’ll purchase. I don’t need smith machine, but I do need/want a rack that I can use for squats, and bench, but also has the functional trainer. I didn’t want plate loaded, but they’re less expensive. However what you mention about the lat pull-down is pretty crucial in my decision. Yet I’m still conflicted about what I want to get. I don’t care as much about price as long as I can get squat/bench/ and a functional trainer that I can use the cables for all the exercises I’m looking to do. It looks like either way I’m looking to spend a good amount of money to get what I want, and I’d hate to settle and not be satisfied.

You can get this + a pretty good lat pulldown/row machine for only a couple hundreds bucks. You would have everything you could ever need with that setup.

The CORTEX SM-20 rack has a Smith Machine, weight stack, cables and is a power rack and it’s about half the price of the Force USA rack. I’ve got the SM-20 and it’s a great rack

Looks pretty cool but man those weight capacities are pretty low and it has 16 gauge steel.

What's the cheapest power rack / smith, but with 3" uprights, for all the third party gadgets?

I have the G20 PRO (2022 version) and the leg press/hack squat combo (2023 version) and I couldn’t be happier. Buy once, cry once!

Give me the REP PR-5000 with the Ares or Athena attachment all day! Buy once, cry once. 2x2 uprights are a problem seeing you will only be able to get accessories from ForceUSA. Like everyone says “your home gym is never complete”. You will always be looking to add or upgrade.. Buy the PR-4k or 5K and add the attachments over time. You will be much happier. Love the ares, wanted the ares but got the g3. Been completely content with it and it does everything I want and need from it. Wife loves the smith and the leg press for the smith makes it worth it imo. Only downside for me has been the lat pulldown is not great due to the angle and how short it is. Might buy a dedicated lat pulldown machine. I even got the force USA bench seat and modified it for leg work outs with the cable machine. The g3 is awesome and great budget purchase imo.

Is it 5/8 or 1 inch holes on the rack uprights? Couldn’t find any mention other than the spacing distance and not the hole size. Asking because the JCups and Spotter Arms look quite bad and I would immediately look for aftermarket ones.

have you guys looked at the G10? I am looking at that model and hoping for a good review.

The "exploded diagram" taking the place of actual instructions is one of the more frustrating experiences I've had in setting equipment up and this isn't a ForceUSA issue it seems to be an industry wide trend it's so annoying.

My ForceUSA g3 had actual step by step instructions and the exploded view. This thing is not hard to build.

Question: I have a Force USA G3 v2. Is it strong enough to use the Bullet Proof Isolator?

Great review. I'm in California and have kept my fitness reality rack with a Spud Inc pulley for pulldowns outside for the last 2 years. It has held up great (I put a popup canopy over it in winter to avoid direct rain). Now a couple years in, I'm looking for an upgrade that has a cable system that will let me do low rows and crossover movements, including low-to-high crossovers. I'll probably keep the old rack for pulldowns (I'm used to sitting on the ground at this point), but I'm hesitant to spend $2K+ on something that I know I'm going to be leaving outside, so I'd be interested in your thoughts on the best value between the MajorLutie F22 Raptor, RepFit, or other options in the sub-$1K price range.

Which one would you recommend, ForceUSA G3 or the Major Fitness SML07 with the Bench/Rack/230lb weights for the same price? Thanks

Provided Space and Funds are a non issue I pick the REP 5000 Power Rack in the Clear Coat (if it is an option) or Shiny Black, Prime Fitness Functional Trainer, Atlantis Lat Pulldown, Atlantis Row Machine, Prime Fitness Rear Delt Fly Machine, Hammer Strength Pec Deck, Sorinex Frankenheimer, Atlantis Lateral Raise Machine, Nautilus Pullover Machine, Atlantis Chest Press, Prime Fitness Leg Extension, Hammer Strength Hamstring Curl, Atlantis Hack Squat, Cybex Leg Press, Atlantis T Bar Row, and I'd have my Gym. Space and Funds are an issue I pick the REP 5000 Power Rack in shiny black, E.R. Kang functional trainer, Deltech Leg Extension, and my gym is complete, no more space. I like the way Deltech's leg extension loads on both sides of the feet. Not a fan of loading plates on one side or on one weight horn over feet. I'm on Team stand alone but unfortunately with limited space I live on Team Combo.

I have the G3 and love it. That said, I can’t wait to get a weight stack machine. Nothing wrong with the G3 but the plate loading gets old fast. I have a ton of extra change plates just in case now to make exercise loading easier and I just write out the weight combos now in my app so I don’t have to math as hard lol. It works but for the money, I wish I just went all in a weight stake over the plate. My 2 cents.

How tall is this rack ignoring the pulleys? I'm trying to find a setup I can put in my unfinished basement and I'm hoping the pulleys could go up between the ceiling joists.

Hate's a strong word,but i really don't like angled smith machines. I prefer straight smith machines any day of the week.
