The Buck Knives Story - A RMEF Film

A young Kansas blacksmith apprentice named Hoyt Buck was looking for a better way to temper steel so it would hold an edge longer. His unique approach produced the first Buck Knife in 1902. The tradition of designing and manufacturing quality knives in the U.S. continues to this day.
The Buck Knives Factory produces 3-4 thousand knives per day in Post Falls, Idaho and employs approximately 300 workers.
"We have been helping people thrive with reliable and trustworthy edged products for over a century. Since our own name is on the knife, our quality, focus, and attention to detail is very personal," says CJ Buck, company CEO & chairman.
An ongoing commitment to developing innovative new products and improvement by third and fourth generation Buck family members, has made Buck the successful knife maker it is today, this is their story.

I was born in 79. Before I was in kindergarten at 5 yrs old, I was aloud to sit and wittle wood on the porch w my little buck pen knife only while my dad was wrenching on his 68 GTO in the driveway. He kept an eye on me. As I got older in the summer I was entering 4th grade and a cub Scout then I received the Buck Ranger. Prolly the most excited I had ever been. We'd go to the local walmart then and in the hunting section there was a tall glass case with red felt lining that held every Buck knife they sold at the time from smallest to largest. I'd look at em as long as they'd let me and my dad would always laugh saying "some day". Naturally I loved the Frontiersman! My Dad was gifted his kalinga when he was 14. The knife of my dreams then. Every few yrs or so on my birthday in August there it was.....a brand new larger Buck knife... Almost climbing the ladder to responsibility and manhood. Now ive owned my own kalinga a hand full of years. A few small differences comparing to the old mans but still awesome. I smile Every time I open the desk door and see it. Takes me back to when I held dads the first time and he laughed saying" some day".

Sad actually seeing some of their knives made in China. Worry it’ll only become another Chinese made brand. Only leatherman stays a 💯 American brand. But buck is still a big American brand and hope it’ll stay this way.

Killer video. I don't know what to say, but thank you, Buck family! I just started working at Tompkins Industries, and before working here, I didn't know much about Buck Knives, haha. We distribute Buck knives from the humble Canoe folder to the brauny Camp Knife. In less than 3 months, I now have four Buck knives! They are not just for show. In the hydraulics business dealing with all the chaos of being a technician, these knives remain rock solid(even the 50 year old 112 Ranger). I could not be more proud that I work at a place where I get to sell American made knives for the wonderful people in my city!

I carry the 110 in my pocket everyday, and never go hunting without my grandfathers 112, and my first Buck knife the 110. I have loved these knives my whole life and am glad they moved to my home state of Idaho. Thanks for a great video on there history.

I am from New Zealand. I am almost 60 years of age. I have had buck knives for probably 40 plus years. Even living half a world away I had great experience with these knives. My favorite is a little 2.5 inch blade knife opened. My use with this knife is very demanding. I am on my 4th. I have had to return 1 knife for repair. It was returned in almost new presentation. Plus I was given another almost of similar style. Buck your brilliant. Would like to get in contact with you personally. Gerald Burgess

Buck Knife, truly a great company that makes quality products. I remember the first time I visited their CA plant while in abrasive marketing for 3M. A number of years later I toured their ID plant with my son. I currently carry a 842 as my EDC, it is a great knife. Having visited many cutlery plants in my career, Buck Knife is a one of the best. Made in America and family owned, you can’t beat that.

I’m 80 yo and got my first Buck in 1968ish, a little 505. Traveling world wide for 40 years has made me go through a few that have been lost or stolen. Have a 501 that went to ‘nam with me and has been back to Buck for repair twice! (Think it’s been used hard?). Have numerous Bucks in my small collection (including a RMEF 480 counterfeit). Finally bought an iconic 110 about 2 years ago. I basically knew the Buck family story but am glad you retold it from CJ’s prospective. Loved visiting the factory in Post Falls a few years ago. Look forward to the next visit.

I bought a 305 lancer and it said "made in china" on the blade. I had a few buck knives from my teens and always loved them. I remember sending back a cadet that was kind of loose. And a months later it came back, blade tightened up. Anyway, i emailed buck complaining about the Chinese knife. They sent me a nice folding knife for free and explained that they really, really try to make all knives here. But a few are made elsewhere.
