You'd really be ahead of the game if you pull that off. But I think for some of the grab animations they change depending on your health - if you have enough health you get a different one that hurts but doesn't kill you. For instance Camtscha will throw you to the ground if you have enough health with their grab and rips Kril apart if you don't. The Shellsplitter is encountered very early in the game so it might have a non-fatal grab if you boost vitality enough.

Keep in mind Kril is nowhere near big enough for Pagurus to need to cut him up, he just does it out of cruelty.

likely to break your shell so you're easier to eat, also atleast pagarus eats you and doesnt waste the body most enemies just kinda decide to kill you

There is no blood, but damn, those pleas for mercy are too convincing. Rarely do I feel that bad about getting the main character killed...

It's especially freaky because NOTHING ELSE in the game talks like him. It's like his apparent immortality and survival through molting for decades longer than he should have lived cost him his ability to speak.

Thanks for the fun with the game and the rather neat kill animations! I kind of threw this together without intending to find everything - it was just after finishing I remembered the grab kills from Shellsplitter, Camtscha, and Pagurus and wanted to show how cool they were. If I get time I'll go back to see what I missed.

I think Pagurus is up there too, with him stabbing Krill, cutting up his shell, and eating him alive.

The Camtscha one is extremely traumatizing... His death scream adds to the horror.

Is this game just a complete accident of passions meets competence? It looks so goofy on the surface but has animations/writing/mechanics/design more than bigger budget titles.

Not an accident at all I imagine. They had a vision, they wanted it to be goofy, and they wanted it to be a true soulslike. Checks out, amazing game.

Despite the cartoon art style, something about the way the character begs to not be killed or realizes his imminent death makes these more horrifying than any Dark Souls kill

Err, actual souls titles don't even go to this level of visceral. They grab you, beat you, then throw you away. They never try to snap you in half, or behead you on the spot like ACT.

Nephro also goes "Taste Sea Floor, Miscreant!" when he grinds you like that.

Watching this made me kind of hungry……

Pagurus' kill on Kril is the most brutal, because the guillotine kill is swift and over, still brutal but...Pagurus stabs you with the fork, cuts you in half with the knife and EATS KRIL.

Misses some bosses as well as the lantern fish!

I vaguely remember being caught by it but I survived it, unless I'm confusing it with a different attack. I'll have to go back and check out the things missed, hopefully in the next few days.

@@CrankyTemplar While watching my brother played it, he died from it several times and if the other comment is to be believed, it seems like you can survive instant deaths if you have enough defense or health. Which sounds it like it means enemies with special attacks have different execution sequences for Krill. Probably not in the same vein as Infernax with every enemy type, except for recolors, has a specific death animation for the player.

Because you can win through the normal mechanics without taking damage and there are a number of methods to cheese a win. On top of that, if you're struggling there's an accessibility option to give your crab a gun.

You can play a super aggressive playstyle that let's you basically stunlock bosses thanks to certain abilities like mantis ounch. You cna do ton of builds and there are a lot of ways to make this game easier. (Life drain is so strong )
