My highlight of the design of this car is the way they achieved a beautiful front with no grille. I think their trick is the way the front end is so pointy so that it can reflect the ground on the lower half, hiding the amount of painted plain bodywork. The proportions of this car say it's mid-engined under our usual expectations. Electric sportscars will likely tend to have this mid-engined look with a very short bonnet. I think it's actually too bad that we are going to lose the look of long bonnets and long prestige gaps the classic front-engined Grand Tourers have.

I get 370z/400 vibes with a touch of mid engine proportions. Very good looking yet there is something clinical about it. For some reason it’s difficult to make a car look futuristic without this clinical/appliance-ish vibe occurring. For an EV though, they got it right. The only thing that probably is a big no no if they are not mounted 100% the same front and back each side so it looks good on the promo shots but maybe weird in real life. Before hearing from Frank, my initial thoughts.. I'm quickly reminded of Nissan Z, especially from side and rear a bit of Cadillac. I think due to the tall flat side panels and the accent vertical fender vent. While you don't want your design to remind of another car, the balance seems right. Communicates stability with stance, thinking confidence on the road. LED angles signify modernity. I find it nice and solid and current looking, but not future looking. I find design cues not new and there isn't enough unique character to it. Good but not outstanding IMO.

Nice review! I love the look of this car and the whole design language of Polestar. I do need to point out that the light design is not based on a Marvel character but the actual Norse mythology. The Viking god and his hammer date back much farther than the recent popular culture and comics. I guess the true history should not be news to anyone but to me mentioning Marvel sounded little off in the video.

They look almost identical to their concept versions (better in some ways even). I've got to say, the first thing that jumped out at me when seeing it for the first time was the Nissan R35 GTR roofline, it's done so well that it still looks gorgeous in both top-down and top-up configs. Most other hard-top convertibles (i.e Porsche 911 convertible) look chunky at the rear with the top down, while this one still looks sleek.

Another designer pointed out that the 0₂ lines have a striking resemblance to Daniel Simon's futuristic artwork and concepts (see e.g. the machines, weapons, architecture and costumes across the Oblivion movie). Which is very good!

I don't think that product design or product design elements are antithetical to notions or expressions of passion and I think that this Polestar design is actually very heavily influenced (not subtly influenced) by, not only modern product design, but in particular modern electronics and appliances. These are fitting references in the design language of an era of emergent electric sports cars. Sports cars, particularly in their early history, represented cutting edge technology, not nostalgia or tradition. I think this is a refreshingly honest and intelligent modern successor to that history of innovation in automotive design. It's the spirit of a sports car, not the slavish adherence to superficial detail or form, that makes for a good design reference to the past. This allows for new expressions to be grounded while also looking forwards. In their subtle, grown-up approach to design, Polestar have been demonstrating that passion, relevance and refined, disciplined design can be done, even in the automotive industry, even now. Long overdue - well done Polestar!

I'm a big fan of folded paper designs so enjoy this one a lot, and I'll admit, I didn't know a thing about the O2 until I clicked on this vid. All the style signatures being projected I enjoy. They're new and fresh and somehow, very Scandinavian too. Both Saab and Volvo have always been a bit left of centre for me and this is no different. Side profile looks a little dumpy to me - I feel that the wheelbase could be a tad longer - but love the trailing roofline and nice to see a pair of (flattened) butteresses on the convertible. I'd like to know a bit more about its packaging. Assuming this is a full EV then for a 2+2, I'd want to know where everything fits. Look forward to the road-going version...

I like the design at first sight, but somehow it doesn’t get me that excited. Looks a bit too clinical, maybe? I’ll wait for the production version. I find that Polestar 2 looks great on the road. This one too needs to be seen on the road.

Ferrari-ish headlights, always a winner. Great design, didn't see the car before. A bit too sharp for my taste, i love round forms. But i do think they nailed their very own approach with this. If there only was an engine built in, one like there was in the T5R f.e. edit: i don't really like the wheels, for me they can't be enough filigree

The proportions of the O2 especially from the side view give me strong SW20 Toyota MR2 vibes. On Polestar's production-intent concepts, if you take a look at the Polestar Precept, and then the production version the Polestar 5, there's been surprisingly minimal changes from the concept to the production version, mostly just minor tweaks like the wheels being slightly smaller, conventional rear doors instead of suicide doors, etc.
