The Brilliant Storytelling of Lost Time Memory

Музыка

A long time ago I wrote an essay on tumblr about one of my favorite songs ever. This is a much more refined version of that. I hope this video can get across all the emotion I feel when I listen to this wonderful piece of music.
The songs used are:
Iro no Nai Houkago from Mekakucity Actors
Thanks for Being Born from Umineko no Naku Kori Ni
And Hope, also from Umineko

Great analysis. The only (morbidly) hilarious thing about it is that, after 19 routes, you'd think Shintaro would have remembered a less painful way to suicide into the haze than... scissors.

There's so much symbolism in the story telling of Kagerou Project that a vast majority of it gets completely overlooked. Everything from the TV sets in Outer Science, Ayanos Theory of Happiness, Shounen Brave, Yobanshi Deceive, etc (reflecting on the past. Watching the tragedy) to even something as obvious as all the characters eye powers and why their powers are relevant to then and no one else. Thank you for uploading this. Jin is a story-writing genius and doesn't get the recognition he deserves for it.

Lost Time Memory is a song I hold dear to my heart. It's my personal favorite in the Kagerou Daze series, as well as my first one. It's also the one I connect the most to, as when I first heard the song, I was caught up in my own loneliness and my guilt for past actions I had made. It was one I connected to, and now after watching your analysis of it, appreciate even more. Thank you.

I know this is extremely late, but going through your vids, I agree with the color symbolism! I also just realized that the color blue is exceptionally sad for Shintaro since Ene is practically the most painful reminder in the beginning of both routes (especially route XX) and Mary since she (and her family's ability) plays a significant role in his suffering (how he's similar to Azumi, as you said) over Ayano.

Playing "Hope" from Umineko in the background of the analysis fits so well. What is said about this song is also thematically found in Battler, Sayu, and Ange's individual struggles with loss of family and loss of a love.

Once again, your review was amazing!!! I'm so glad to see the kagepro fandom rise from their graves, hopefully for good this time, because for the longest time, though it was at the top of my list (and still is my favorite series) the amount of content that was produced was severely limited to every august 15th, and occasionally when some unsuspecting artist falls into the trap of this fandom . Thank you for the contribution!!!!!!!

This is such an interesting analysis! I have been really into Kagepro for years now (since like, 2014 lmao) and this song's PV has always been one of my favorites. I've never really noticed the things that you pointed out such as the red/blue color hues in certain areas, it really makes the whole video have this whole different feel to it. Also, I've also never noticed the parallels between Azami and Shintaro! I always thought that the part where Shintaro walks past Azami was kind of significant in some way, but I honestly never really thought about it. I'm so so glad to have discovered your content, it really revitalized my love for Kagepro lol, I look forward to seeing you more in the future!

  • @BreadBoxVideo

I think that could be emblematic of how Ene was a comfort and a freind to Shintaro that he didn't realize he had until he killed her. In Ene Shintaro had a red, but he himself rejected it.

This might be late but I just wanted to add a little something that you might not have noticed: Leading up the "the smile of the summer you will never change", notice, when Ayano turns around to greet Shintaro (pause at 5:21 to see it, though you may have to slow the video down), on all the other desks, are flowers, but on Shintaro's desk is a paper crane, which might be the exact same paper crane that Ayano folded and placed at the rooftop during Toumei Answer (The paper crane was folded using Shintaro's test with a full mark that he had torn into pieces, which Ayano most likely had taped back together). This might be Lost Time Memory linking up to Toumei Answer as the paper crane is the last thing Shintaro sees on the school rooftop before starting to cry in Toumei Answer. Symbolizing (perhaps one of) the last thing Ayano had left behind for him.
