The Brightest TV I’ve Ever Tested | Hisense UX TV Review

Ғылым және технология

The Hisense UX is the brightest TV we've ever reviewed. The UX is more than just another TV on the market that’s up for purchase consideration. It’s the most ambitious TV Hisense has ever put into production. By Hisense’s own account, it is special - It is a limited-edition TV, and apparently that’s a big enough deal to Hisense that they printed it on the box. The more I thought about it, the more I became certain that, in order to evaluate - or review - this TV, I had to zoom out and talk about the bigger picture.

Hey everyone! I see a lot of questions about motion, upscaling, and HDMI eARC handshake issues as reported by Andrew Robinson, with whom I have spoken recently. First, I’ve not had audio problem, but I concede that I only connected two audio devices: Klipsch The Nines and a Yamaha soundbar I’m testing. Second, I liken the upscaling to the U8K, because that’s exactly what it looks like - not garbage, and consistent with a TV of of the U8K’s price, but not consistent with a high-end TV as the UX is priced. This is why I might choose the X95L, if I was watching mostly low-quality content (which I personally don’t, outside of KZread vids, which I can deal with). However, this Tv is gorgeous with high quality content, so the choice between those two would come down to what one watches most, I think. My hope is that Hisense takes this feedback and comes back with a TV in 2024 that is an even stronger competitor in the upscaling area - historically, Hisense has taken this feedback seriously and worked hard to improve year over year. I’m optimistic we’ll see something even more impressive, and possibly not limited edition, next year.

Hay, Caleb. Rtings* claims the X90L beats the X95L in so many areas that if I had that kind of money, I'd get a 98-inch X90L. But my limit is between $2,000 and $3,000. Anything more expensive than that would take me so long to save for that 4K UHD Blu-ray might be discontinued by the time I'm ready. So it's the 85-inch X90L for me. *If Rtings claims the Hisense UX beats the X90L and/or X95L in various areas of performance, I'll edit this comment. But your results are close enough to Rtings's results that I don't think it will. Keep up the good work! Looking forward to more!

The big question is why would I spend this kind of money on a Hiense when I can go buy the Sony X95L which is the best LED tv of 2023. Hisense seems to be forgetting who they are, a budget tv brand that makes cheap tvs that looks good enough to make you think twice about dropping big money on a Sony or Samsung, this tv needs a big price drop for it to be considered.

I don’t comment very often, but this warrants jumping in. I think that this might be one TV where a philosophical discussion *is* warranted. If you look at, say, the difference between TCL’s original R615 from 2018, and compare the performance differences with the recent Q7 or QM8, and then compare that to the performance differences in the flagship TVs from Sony or Samsung … if Hisense can make anything like as much progress at the high end as they and TCL have made in value TVs, the premium brands should be *very* worried, and we as consumers should be *excited*. If Hisense don’t get scared off by the initial reception of the UX, then top TVs are going to get phenomenally good in the next few years. The real question is whether their experience in delivering value is going to translate into delivering the color and motion and cleanup accuracy required for the truly premium TV experience. I must admit that I am still skeptical of that. It sounds, though, like if they focus their attention there for a generation or two, then they will be able to compete with the top brands on pure premium experience, and the trickle-down effect on their more value-oriented TVs will be *devastating* for their competitors.

Thank you for this review, Caleb. Even though this is indeed "limited release/edition," it's stuff like this that pushes the envelope of current technology but eventually finds its way into mass marketed consumer products. Good on Hisense for taking a chance and getting it out there, even if only in limited hands. With modern mass communication, we have the ability to do a limited release test with a select few and then get that information out to both the masses of enthusiasts and, finally, the average consumer. And while we may end up with only parts/fractions of this technology in the final form, it's important to test, test, and more test, lol.

It seems Hisense UX is one processor and one software update away from dominating the premium LED market. Especially at the large 85" size. The brightness and viewing angle coupled with blooming control and color accuracy is impressive. Black level this good with ABL brightness makes me think UX can compete with OLED if upscaling and motion are improved. If, 2024 Hisense UX equals Sony on upscaling and low bit rate clean up then they beat Sony with picture quality and brightness. Then I will buy that TV unless QD OLED gets brighter. I mean in a room with ambient light this UX seems like a winner!

Only LG has gotten close to Sony's motion and upscaling and I think Panasonic is a close 3rd due to their use of the older mediatek chipset, as soon as Panasonic uses the Pentonic chipset I'm certain they're going to rival Sony's processing. However, I think the Hisense would be a strong contender regardless of its processing deficiencies because of the brightness and contrast. However, the only thing that would deter me from the Hisense is the accuracy, Sony's MiniLEDs just are way too accurate compared to the competition, the way the backlight is controlled is phenomenal. If Hisense gets even 80% close to Sony's algorithm quality then yeah, they'd be an actually strong contender. For now though, the Sony is just too well rounded to complain about

It seems like every Hisense throws out a big experiment like this, and it falls short. They did an OLED once, they did the Dual-Cell, and now this. They miss the point, the reason I like them is because they offer more bang for my buck. But if you're gonna make a tv 100% as good as Sony, priced 100% as Sony, then I go buy a Sony.

To be honest I am glad they don't focus much on OLED as it cuts the lower end and middle end consumers and I am looking at your LG. LED and Mini-LED should be the focus for companies at this point more so than ever and Hisense is doing that in full compared to most companies I see and thats whats makes them a winner. While yes they do produce higher end TVs they are rare and don't happen often. Not only that they also provide very good features for gamers and movie watchers at each price point for 4K.

To my knowledge most Hisense U-- models do have 120hz BFI, one of the last TVs that does this unfortunately. I got a U8H for my father last year and it had that setting. The issue though seems to be that it's just not all that good compared to the 120hz BFI on say the CX or C1 for motion clarity. And I think it might be that the default motion clarity isn't as great on Hisense typically as other higher level brands. But that could be totally different on this TV, never seen it.

If you could custom tune it for 60 FPS or 120 like you can on many BenQ computer monitors, it would be great. OLEDs are going to look better in motion because they have instant grey to grey response time and no cross talk. I currently own an 85 inch TV, so this would be enticing if I were in the market. However, I would have a hard time spending that much on a Hisense. They are a value brand, and that’s really why a person goes with them if you don’t want to pay the big three premium. Also, seems like a waste to pay that much for a TV with such a sound system when I wouldn’t use it.

At least 3 employees ZOOM IN like:”WHATAA I WORK here. I did NOT know this U8K TV can look like THIS!!! How do u tweak it? It looks OLED!!’. For like 5 min, then he finally walked over to watch the Hisense U8K visuals. It looked 3D at night 4k walking video. D ONLine Volice just lot of noise, d 75” at Bestbuy website holds high 4.8/5 rating ppl talking its bad cuz they HAVE NOT BOUGHT IT. D ppl bought it are all giving very high Rtings on Bestbuy. Can we keep it on 6-8 hours a day and assure the room will not turn into a furnace? I could be wrong, but even if the TV is far too bright, my assumption was that for the longevity of the TV that's a good thing. After all, what degrades with age on all types of LCD panels is brightness. If you have a higher default brightness threshold possible, I'd assume if you just enjoy say 1200 nits, then you could continue to use that brightness setting for 3 times as long on this TV (assuming something else didn't go wrong first).

I wish they made this TV in a smaller size, like a 65in. I would love a nice, large, and good sounding TV for the bedroom, because of the limited space, I don't want to be putting speakers and running cables. So this seems so perfect for that... However, the speakers (which is a selling point) is diminished when it comes to it being the main living room TV. Not only does it impact the way the TV looks, but a lot of people have dedicated sound systems in their living rooms. So I'm paying extra for a feature I don't need... that also makes the product look worse.

This will help to reduce eye strain and make the display more comfortable to look at. If you are using the device in direct sunlight, you may need to increase the backlight setting to make the screen visible. However, I would recommend using the lowest backlight setting that is comfortable for you.

THEY do NOT have Color accuracy issue. Digital Trends --Caleb Denison Avertly : SETS Hisense U8H U8K to WARM1(agreesive yellow) from original OUT of box (warm2) . N he puts Hisense in Film Maker mode. ITS a mode originally made for OLED Tv but destroys MINI LED visual. Cuz it shuts off 100% upscaling for color/motion/black level. THEn ON TOP-- he PUTs Hisense U8G U8H U8K 3 yr in a row in his videos… “SHARPNESS” down form out of box 25 DUNK to “ ZERO”. Yes effectively make a 4k TV look 1080P. Then change contrast down to 44 . If he turn UX Contrast UP. It’s not making it more clear. D Contrast in TV means --MAKE the bright area BRIGHTER. So if he turns down “backlight level”. N put on Film Maker mode. To cause a mush flat illusion, then not TURN DOWN black level. To keep black level blown out grey (its for BRIGHT DAY LIGHT when mid day lunch time) . Like then “let me do a test “ on a low resolution ---knowing it HAS NO UPSCALING AT all. It’s at “OFF” but i am going to put it beside SONY X90L. N suddenly “U8K(upscale set to OFF) UPscaling is NOT as good as X90L”. Dude he DOWN SCALED Hisense including UX. WE are BLIND if we dont see it. In his 3 yr in a row HIsense Videos. I only NOTICED 12 months later cuz i buy d TV, at home do NOT LOOK like anything matching his Reveiws. Oh wait he make sure the “MoTION == set to “OFF “ form out of box “MEDIUM” Dude. If u are talking about -testing a TV when “shut off” major upscaling , ooops i meant NOT MAJOR upscaling but 100% upscaling, n on top adding a weird yellow tone, then UN-sharpen it. Then Make review on KZread. Do U really thing they would have changed some other colors like white balance n etc. in the video??? Like Have u heard huge KZreadr Illuminati ??? A lot of things similar is happening with DT in their videos last a few yrs. Prob happening for long time. Dude those ar his own settings. I am doing that to my own tv right now. The UX seems to be an attempt by Hisense on making a novelty TV; It's in limited production, a monster bright picture (wipe on some sun screen and where those shades), but unfortunately video processing is very under whelming (per current consensus) and overall buggy. So what we belive the HOTTEST things in fact we are in small minded bubble. HIsense has been around 60 yrs, ranked NO4. In d world for tv. They are HUGGGGGE. They just NEVEr sold their premium stuff in USA. Same as how VW were selling stuff in USA for longest time but they didn’t started selling AUDI till 1970s. Hisense ROKU are low end line. Theri Google/ Android panels are their high end stuff. They only started selling their high end stuf in USA/Canada like 3 4 yr ago. Ppl thought it’s new, they are like NO.1 in Asia in Sony, LG , Samsung’s own turf. I was super shocked to find out. Caleb Mal tweaked that UX. I have SEEN what it looks like in diff sites from consumer uploads at home. This video is botched. He put it in FIlm Maker mode, set SHARPNESS to “0” from out of box -50%. He put color tempuretre to WARM 1(agressive sunset yellow). Very deliberate. If a TV that’s THAT BAD, an influncer would NOT need to Alter the setting to mess it UP that bad to false presenting.

Yes, there are a few 5000 nit TVs coming soon. TCL announced its X955 5000-nit Mini-LED TV in September 2023, and it is expected to be available for purchase in late 2023 or early 2024. Hisense is also reportedly developing a 5000-nit ULED TV, but there is no release date for this TV yet. 5000-nit TVs are a significant improvement over previous TVs, which typically have a peak brightness of around 1000 nits. The higher brightness allows for a wider range of colors, deeper blacks, and brighter highlights. This can make for a more realistic and immersive viewing experience. However, 5000-nit TVs are also more expensive than previous TVs. It is important to consider your budget and needs before deciding whether or not to purchase a 5000-nit TV.

The Rtings review became available to the public sometime between last night and this morning. It excels in HDR brightness, HDR color gamut, and HDR color volume. It lacks in PQ EOTF tracking, pre calibration color accuracy, and, even after all Hisense put into it, the built-in audio system. I am not trying to make everyone think that the make and model I prefer is THE end-all-be-all solution. Nothing to do with money. I would have paid $2,000 for a 55-inch and sat closer to it if the Rtings measurements were much better. Even though this TV is out of my price range, I was really hoping it would do well, especially after how well the U8H and U8K did. As an audio/video home theater enthusiast, I'm quite disappointed, especially considering the price. If all you want to do is watch HDR sports outdoors during the summer and don't care about movies or how good they look, then the Hisense UX is for you. Just get some weather proof material to cover its chassis and everything around the screen and you're good to go.

CAleb Denison digital trends are very questionable to all HIsense reviews . He will ask ppl leave 100% brightness on, have auto sensor off, put on film maker mode. Put Motion smooth to “OFF”. And his reviews, U8H U8K “sharpness” always turned to --0. On top of that, in Advanced settings in “picture” menu. He changes “Color temperature “ from mild Warm 2, to AGREESIVE yellow tint of WARM 1. Try it out on your U7K ,,see WHAT . Then he will have in his video: if u don’t like this tv (who will with that setting ), up d budget to get SONY ….it has BEST in processing…blah blah “ lol. Yeah Make sure have Auto sensor on. SONY, LG,SAMSUng used to have those on ONLY FLAGSHIP panels for longest time in mini led. So MOST ppl never bought their $3000 $4000 LEDS never know thats a very premium feature. Its comical he asks ppl to TURN it off. Advice. Get a behind d TV lights in order to be detect accurately. Otherwise it notice it dims tv a bit too much. 😅

Its NEVER mean to be 100% ps even on manual. Like if u buy a computer do u leave it on 100% ? If we get iphone do we have it on 100% especially AT NIGHT. So yeah a TV “RUGU” tells clients “ MAKE SURE ONLY WATCH on 100% in dark room” there is fishy intention. I took science course , learnt how to Watch tv in one of classes. LEAVING it on 100% is like trying o make sense of things staring at CAR high BEAM. I do NOT know what criterial he has to ADVICE that out do Science school? Ps good for getting U7K. My advice. Have Gov or some back TV lights , then adjust “Black level” accordingly with (whatever the Auto sensor sits) , up the color (volume) during the day, lower a bit, if watch pod cast or those 1080P news cast etc. up the Sharpness between 25-30. If watching landscape like drone or forest, lower “sharpness” from “20-24”. And on ClOUDY DAY, or if u re tired in the morning. Use the “cool” or “STANDARD” setting in “color tempureure “ it can have very effective anti depression n boost alertness effect (blue light).

Yes, the Hisense UX TV is brighter than the Sony Z9J. The Hisense UX has a peak brightness of up to 4000 nits, while the Sony Z9J has a peak brightness of up to 2,000 nits. This means that the Hisense UX TV can produce brighter highlights and a more vibrant picture than the Sony Z9J.
