This wonderful folk dance was taught by William C Doublestein and performed by a group of third graders from Boone Meadow Elementary in Zionsville, IN. Steps and music to "The Bridge of Athlone" can be found in The New England Dancing Masters' book Listen To The Mockingbird and accompanying CD, available here: amidonmusic.com/product/liste... The title of the track is "Blarney Pilgrim."

    @@BowTieMusic I mean, the sequencing of your lesson. Did you introduce this as "let's learn a dance," or did you have a story that came before it, or did you analyze the rhythms in the dance, or did you introduce dance steps (cast off/dosido/tunnel) as activities that were then ordered in a modular fashion. How did you get students interested in completing the dance? (I'm coming from a high school position and am very new to elementary expectations/mind sets.) Or is that all in the book, too? lol

    Gotcha! Usually I just jump right in to the dance steps. I try and keep it fun and fast paced, doing our best to complete the dance in a single class period if we can. Then we’ll often repeat it the following week. One thing that I’ve found helps get the kids excited about completing the dance is showing them a video of it (like this one) beforehand. That way they’ll know what they’re working towards. Best of luck to you as you make that transition from high school to elementary! Elementary music is super fun, and I hope my KZread channel can be helpful to you!
