The Breitling Navitimer 01 Wristwatch: The Full Nick Shabazz Review
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Today, we're going to take a look at the Breitling Navitimer 01 Chronograph wristwatch, featuring the B01 movement. Thanks very much to Lewis Jewelers in Ann Arbor, Michigan, for loaning this little guy my way.

I think the water resistance is actually 3 atmospheres / 30 metres, which is still not anywhere close to great, but a lot better than 3m. Still, I've had (inexpensive) 3 atm rated watches fog up due to water ingress in rainy/snowy/damp conditions, so I'd keep the Navitimer well away from water. Great review though - thanks for posting.

arcade.ly You are right, as seen on the case back, the water resistance is rated 3 bar, that is 30 m

Nick Shabazz I agree, it is not too much of water resistance. See what happens if somebody pushes you in the swimming pool 😀 kzread.info/dash/bejne/dJmnta1vZ7DgndY.html

I believe the principle issue is the rotating bezel; I think they find it hard to waterproof. Still, I wish they'd try. Surely with modern engineering and materials and making the crown and pushers screw-down, they could manage to up the water resistance a bit. Even if they only got it to 5 ATM (50m), that would be something.

Amazing review, I learned a lot about this watch. Thanks Nick!
Navitimer well explained for the first time. A very nice, knowledgeable review. You did your homework. Good job.
Great review of an absolute classic. I have the Sinn 903, German tech meets classic Breitling looks!
Excellent review. Thank you very much. I love Navitimer although water "resistance" is really a big problem for everyday use.
Excellent review, thank you. I highly value your thoughts.
This is the only watch with a hilariously busy dial i kind of like, but holy crap is this thing busy. It makes commuting from Shinjuku station in Tokyo look relaxing.

Its basically an e6b calculator in watch form... whoch if youre actually a pilot can be pretty useful for calculating groundspeeds, distances, fuel burn etc.
Busy? As a Citizen owner, I was thinking it was lacking a couple of digital displays.

This watch is crazy 🤪. Thanks for the review. I'll never buy it, but it's very cool hearing your insights. I've turned into a smart watch guy but I still really appreciate the craftsmanship. And definitely appreciate your time reviewing all these different things.
I love this watch! mine is arriving today!!
Beautiful piece. Great Review.
Great in depth review!
Nick, your reviews are not just informative but so entertaining. You should be in show business Thanks!!!
Beautiful watch I also have with the stainless steel air racer strap which I’ve never seen on another navitimer , never had so many comments even from strangers
Love your reviews.
Great review Nick. You might want to look at the Sinn 903, which is a Navitimer for around 3,700. Apparently Sinn bought the design from Breitling some years ago. Movements are similar and the Sinns are top notch quality.
Hey Nick great review as always. Wanted to ask about the music choice for the minute preview. Is there any correlation, or just a random price? I got the rail master Alkan reference. Thanks
Nick, I love that you use the word typography, and not font. As someone with some training in the bibliography, it's a pet peeve that I can never bring up because people will accuse me of being pedantic. (They'd be right, but still.)

I don't like the font you wrote that comment in. :-P :-)
The anti-reflective coating on that crystal scratches and those scratches become VERY visible. I believe that watch has AR coating on both sides of the crystal, which is not necessary. You see them often on the second hand market with that coating removed (toothpaste will do it). Second, a 30m water rating is measure in static conditions. Meaning, sitting in a jar. Attach that to your wrist and move it in water and you'll have water intrusion in far less than 30m. I owned a Breitling Spatiographe, which is a Navitimer with a digital count down window at 9 o'clock. The dial is amazing and the inner bezel ring is almost pearlescent. It really is a gorgeous watch and if you are into the busy dial of the type of pilot watch, you really could do far worse than to purchase a Navitimer.
What a fantastic watch. I have been looking into Breitling for a while but so far I really haven't found one I liked as much as I would need to fork over that kind of money. Purely on an aestric level.
I’ve had the Navitimer 01 limited edition for 3 years now and it’s my favorite watch ever and I’ve owned many watches from brands like Omega, Rolex and so on. I personally love the business of the dial!. It can be spotted a mile away. AR coating is the best of any brand I’ve seen. Very high quality watch. Amazing watch!!!.

Yes the a crystal and AR coating is amazing only rivaled by very few others I own but far better than many others that are priced highee.
Not knowing how to apply the slide rule, I always passed on this watch, hate unused markings on any timepiece. Now that I've learned how to use these simple tools...I want one!
I came across a Breitling Navitimer 01 Model: S022C20NP which has Breitling 01 movement. Can you please advise if Breitling 01 movement is same as B01? Thanks
Nick, great review! Could you be so kind to take the exact diameter of the case middle part? As the whole watch is defined as 43 mm but in real you took the turning bezel at cca. 42.6 mm, the case middle part should be another 1-1.5 mm smaller in diameter. Thank you in advance!
Beautiful watch, owned the b01 limited for 4 years. Wore it often but traded for a new blnr gmt master ii. Quality watch but got tired of it. Leather strap is simply awesome. Upon trading the same jeweler I bought it informed me of a winding issue which was 1000 eur repair but would be covered by warranty as was still a year left on the warranty. Moral of the story is that the 5 year warranty came in handy and saved me from incurring a repair that was not apparent to me.
That’s a great review from a while ago. You both talked me into this watch then put me off then talked me into it again. The new Navitimer is very polarising maybe it would be fun if you did a comparison video. I’ve seen these drop 40% in the secondary for, say, a six year old slightly used model so a lot of watch for your money is bought right. The new ones are getting way up there in price. But still, great vintage looking interesting piece but the flaws are there and a big consideration.
Like the reviews and the style! Just wanted to add that, in the best possible sense, this Nick must be the scientist dude from the Simpsons! Cool stuff! I'm a fan!
I have this Navitimer 01 43Mm. This is one of the best watches out there. The Dial is made out of Silver and the craftsmanship is second to none. The Movement B01 with Column wheel, Vertical Clutch and 70 hours+ power reserve = really good value for money! The quality i dare to say is better than Rolex.

Dear Nick, Which would you rather have: a Breitling Navitimer B01 Chronograph or an Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch?
Hey Nick is it okay to turn the crown backwards I was told as a kid never to turn the movement backwards.....I don't know if this is true or not.
Cutting corners i could point out, 2 one you mention have the option of different size straps and where the leather folds in makes look odd on the botttom a bit 2nd one will be a screw down crown i know i know its not a s diver watch, but would be nice to wear the watch and not worry a littlie bit it get it wet accidentally.
Great review. I got a cheaper all black quartz Casio version with better water resistance and I agree with you on the slide rule bezel. I like the complicated look and busy dial it is classic. I also like that you do not need to turn a crown to move the bezel like other models. I wish the chronomat still had the slide rule bezel. The vintage ones are amazing like the vintage navitimers. Thanks Nick!

Sean Pollard is it the one with the smooth seconds hand??
@seanpollard4844
6 жыл бұрын
mah mam The quartz navitimer model in the 70s had a digital chronograph liquid crystal display. The Casio I have is an analog quartz chronograph with the ticking seconds hand. The older mechanical technology has the smooth sweeping seconds hand. The chronomat model by Brietling also came in quartz in the 70s with the slide rule bezel. The current chronomat model neither has quartz technology or the slide rule bezel but does have the sweeping second hand with the pre-quartz mechanical movement.

Google this, casio mtp sw320, it is very similar to the navitimer, quartz with a smooth seconds hands that moves every 1/5 of a second i think or maybe less, and a slide ruler
I'm not a fan of chronographs, more often than not there's too much going on, but this one is really nice. The Navitimer 01 46 (AB012721-BD09-441X) comes with a sapphire back. (Edit. 3 bars in water is 30,592 meters... or 100.369 feet. That makes it splashproof, but not much more )
Debating to get this watch or the IWC Pilot Chronograph Petite (blue dial). I would like to add a pilot chronograph to my collection. Slightly leaning towards the IWC since it's 7750 movement will be much easier/cheaper to maintain. Love the slide rule of the Navitimer, but also like the day/date function with the IWC Pilot chrono.
So so classy i love it.
I love love love this watch! A grail for me, although I’ll settle for a 903...

The Sinn 903 is an interesting case. Same design, made under license (as they bought rights to make it), and 100M water resist, but a lesser (SW500) movement in a somewhat lesser case, and with a harder-to-rotate slide rule bezel. If Sinn regulated all their watches to COSC, it'd be a lot more compelling. As it stands, it's a lookalike, but not quite a good match.
@meson183

Sinn use Top grade movements in all their watches and regulate them. They stop short of getting them certified, but I would consider it unlucky getting one that does not run well within the COSC criteria. That said, if you go through your Sinn Authorised Dealer, you can special order a Sinn with _Fine Regulation_ . I don't know how much that costs, but I think it means they put in a Chronometer grade movement, regulate it and get it certified with the German equivalent of COSC. Also I would think you would have several months lead time on an order like that. It's something to bear in mind, but given how well Sinn regulate their regular watches, _Fine Regulation_ would be an unnecessary expense. I already have a Navitimer, but it's the forebear to the one you reviewed and has a _Valjoux 7753_ movement in it. But I still want a Sinn 903 as well. (Yes, I probably am mad.) What can I say? I like them.
any reason why some Navitimers have the numbers in the chronograph dials printed straight up and down and some, like this one, have the numbers angled with the curvature of the dials?
@carlosgj1308

nateb26 exactly what I thought most of the genuine are strait up and I saw some top automatic replica and they are in a angle 🤔
Please try to do a review or a comparison of the Sinn 903!
The tachymeter scale can also measure distance if speed is constant.
Is the wing logo made of actual gold?
That’s a beauty!
I watch your knife reviews... im just finding out you do timepieces too... Renaissance man indeed. Debating between this and a Omega Railmaster
Does this come in azure blue face? I so would you know the model number? Hard to find it.

This is the watch of my dreams…. One day I will own it.
Nice video👍 The first time I saw a Navitimer I thought what an ugly watch. Well, that was three years ago. Last week I ordered one 😳🙂🇩🇰 Ps. Mine has safire glass on the back case.
Good stuff!!! :-)
Nick, you really should start these videos with, "Hey everybody. DO NOT GET INTO WATCHES. Today I've got for you..." You didn't do this and now I'm into watches :/ Seiko GPS Sportura arrived this week...
O my ....this is the biggest tease on your channel ever .the navitimer is my dream watch of all ages im just completely in love with it .id never be able to afford one but still its the 1 watch that i cant even think right to say how i feel about it i just turn into stig of the dump brainless wonder .its that good to me
Greetings from Munich and thanks for all the explanations! I bought this watch in august and i love it, but: there are is a huge „Problem“ everyday in work you have to be careful when you wash youre hands, especially when its difficult to messure the pressure of the water tap!! Its really annoying cuz this watch is so sensible and of course expensive, you really want to avoid any damage (and repair costs) this is really a business Watch- the sinn 903 an allrounder! So think about this before you buy this beautiful watch! Ps: if u want one: the new navitimer is designed without the wings around the B- i bought the last Version of the „Original“ designed navitimer and i would do it again- In two years thats gonna be difficult- so hurry up:))

Actually I like the new logo without the wings more, it makes the already busy warch look much cleaner. At the beginning I misseed the wings but the more you look at it the more you like it and if I could choose only one I would definitely choose the new logo.
Would love a Sinn 356 review!
The older Navitimers at 42 mm look the best IMO. The newer ones at 46mm or more look ridiculously large.
Statute. Statutory is something else.
Oh, I joked about this being a watch shaped slide rude and turns it has a slide rule. Damn swiss irony...
You should consider buying the Sinn 903 instead. Much cheaper, way more water resistent and for the price differences you could get that thing regulated for sure!

Oni FraKiMarq it’s still not the original Navitimer!. While I understand it’s a good watch, people will always see it as a Navitimer knock off with a cheap movement. Buy whatever you like.
Hey dopey it's 30m not 3m which is approximately 100ft or to be exact 98 ft 4 inches a little bit more than 9 ft. I still wouldn't swim with it but that goes for any chronograph.
I understand youre trying to help out the jewelry store for an alternative Breitling to buy but the Sinn 903 is a much better comparison with water resistance.

How do you feel about Jomashop as an online retailer? I had a good experience with them but the hevily discounts scare me, how can they do it for so cheap? Great video as always!!

They’re what’s called a “Grey Market” seller. They buy from jewelers, and re-sell the watches without warranty. Generally, you can get very similar prices from an AD, with full warranty and support, so I’ve never had to go that route. Also, remember that resale values quoted are based on full warranty. This is why ADs exist, to bridge the gap between grey market and full-bill retail.

Honestly, I prefer this to the speedy by a large margin. But DO NOT GET INTO WATCHES.
Anyone from "the losers" movie??
Three points - 1. ONLY buy from an authorized dealer to avoid counterfeits. Breitling B01 movement was created as ETA announced that in 2020 (if I remember the date correctly) they would only supply Swatch members watches (since Swatch bought ETA). The valjoux movements are not so common anymore. 3. Lastly, the B01 movement is expensive but it gets great reviews (can you tell I love my Breitlings?).

Me?
The chronograph second hand being on the main dial is a huge design flaw to me. There's no color matching with the chronograph hour and minute hands. It took me a few minutes of looking at it to figure out exactly what was going on. I understand the need for better seconds resolution when timing something, but they did a poor job of matching the chrono seconds hand on the main dial to the secondary dials.
Slide rule come on guys learn to do math in your head lol

I ruined my navitimer because I took it swimming thinking you could take alligator leather into water
