The Bream Only Wanted This Lure! - Fishing Swan River Perth

After being out of action for a while, I went land based fishing around the yacht clubs in the lower Swan River, specifically targeting bream.

    look for man made structure literally anywhere in the river and it will hold fish :) East Perth is probably the most productive area of the swan for bream (and good for other fish like mulloway and flathead)

    Hi mate, great video, I'm stoked to have come across your channel as I'm a local too. I am very new to fishing and was hoping to ask a question, I've purchase some heavier equipment compared to what you use (Daiwa 23 Aird LT 4000c reel & Daiwa 23 Revros 7ft 6-12kg rod). Will I need to purchase some lighter equipment in hopes to catch fish like yourself or will what I have be sufficient enough considering I use the correct braid, leader & lure? Thanks again.

  • @LightTackleAnglerWA

    @LightTackleAnglerWA

    3 ай бұрын

    hey mate, unfortunately that gear is too heavy to use the light lures required for bream fishing. you'd get a lot of benefit from getting a 1-3kg (or 2-4kg) rod and a 1000-2500 sized reel with 4-10lb braid and a 4-8lb leader. cheaper daiwa reels have a similar drag system to more expensive ones so i'd go with daiwa if looking for a more budget friendly reel in the $100 range. i used to use an atomic arrowz 1-3kg rod and rate them quite highly (around $150). you can probably get cheaper rods that work well but the marginal returns from spending more is pretty high until you reach that $100-200 mark.

  • @LightTackleAnglerWA

    @LightTackleAnglerWA

    3 ай бұрын

    some areas of the swan have more and some have less, its just experience i guess- there are some spots like certain areas in fremantle or mosman park where i wouldnt bother using plastics but can go 100m down the road and usually be fine- they tend to be concentrated in certain spots. also change to a hardbody if you need to.

I would love to collaborate on a video in the future, something between a cinematic documentary and your style, where I film you fishing like you normally do but make it more dynamic with different angles and b-roll. Have a think about it, I would love to do something with you.

    thanks a lot mate. the majority of the time i use 2.5-3 inch soft plastics for almost all bread and butter fish, with a jighead as light as i can go for the depth. on the right gear a 1/20th to 1/16th jighead is good for most siutations, but on the flats or around deep structure with a lot of current 1/12th or 1/8th is usually good. In these situations a vibe like an ecogear vx35 can be a good choice as it casts well and they generally sink fast. In pressured areas, especially when bream fishing, I sometimes go as light as 1/28th or 1/40th, especially with certain lures like a pro lure clone prawn, which aren't as buoyant. fish like flathead aren't fussy- this is just my opinion but I wouldn't bother overthinking lure selection for flathead, they'd eat a piece of wood if you gave it the right action. hope this helps.
