He wasn’t the first prince of Wales, he was actually the 3rd. First one was his grandfather, Edward II, then Edward III.

@@DanOC1991 he wasnt. Like I said, first his grandfather, then his father, both were heirs of the king, both were named prince of Wales

Even then he wouldn't be the first prince of Wales by a long shot, the title was used by the Welsh long before it was given to the heirs of the English throne

There was many princes before they even took Wales from the true owners
Fun fact, during the Battle of Cressy when the Black Prince forces was heavily engaged with the French his father King Edward was asked to send reinforcements to help his son he refused and reportedly said this “Let the boy win his spurs”

If I remember correctly after the battle his father arrived and embraced his son proud of his achievement and proving to everyone his skills as not just a warrior but a leader of men.
He sounds like he would be a great king.
1st Prince of Wales was Edward II, Edward, the Black Prince was the first DUKE of England and FIRST Duke of Cornwall
Had he lived to be King. He would have surpassed his father and a the other Kings combined.
The best Prince of Wales England ever had😊

He died too soon he would have been a great king and a great conqueror
Good video thanks ⚔️
Could his death have prevented the Wars of the Roses? Perhaps. The key thing is that Richard II was the definitive heir, and it was his usurpation and Henry IV seizing the crown that made it clear to all the power players that kings could be overthrown and new dynasties could be established.

Groovy job on the Black Prince! Do you think you can do a comic on Vlad the Impaler or Richard III next?
I actually liked the version of the black prince in the movie “A Knight’s tale”

Can you make the story of Henry V and The Battle of Agincourt.
if I am not wrong Edward, the Black Prince was also called "The Monster of England" by the French!

The methods of war Edward employed were extremely effective, but also brutal. As an American I might compare him to someone like General Sherman, who fully committed to the destructive nature of war in an effort to end it more swiftly. In his personal relations he was quite honorable, and he fought at the front personally quite frequently. But it can't be denied the campaigns he took were mostly aimed at soft, non military targets that undermined France's ability to field an army by destroying it's food production and economy. When he couldn't take a city, he would destroy everything around it and move on. Usually this mean Farmers.
Wow . He was an English powerhouse.
Congratulations on your 810th milestone and Edward the Black 🖤 Prince is 2 of Diamonds 💎💎 and Merry Christmas 🎄🎁⛄🎅🤶 Blessings and Hugs 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

I didn't hear why he was called the Black Prince. Was it because of his black colored armor?

It was the color of his armor and the way the French fear him too. Something called someone black also means they are evil or fierce like a monster?

No one knows for sure. It might have referred to black armor, it might have been a moniker given by the French that hated him, or it might have referenced his personal arms which had a black background.

the notion that it was due to his armor is a myth. No ones 100% certain but it was either because the French demonized him for the raiding campaigns he undertook, or because his personal coat of arms as prince of wales was all black with the 3 white feathers of wales in center.
Now this is a man who can claim to be a descendant of King Arthur and has the feats to make anyone believe it to be true.
Edward was a complicated figure, given both to highly honorable and (according to some) dishonorable conduct. He was heavily demonized by the French for his raiding style of war, called chevauchée, which prioritized civilian and infrastructure targets over fortifications. Crecy would also not be the only time he beat a much larger French force of heavy cavalry (roughly twice in size), which he did during the Battle of Poitiers. At Poitiers, Edward was operating deep behind French lines having raided across the countryside. With a haggard force he was finally run down and caught out by a french army twice his size. Negotiations for surrender began. "The prince was willing enough to come to terms, and offered to give up all the towns and castles he had conquered, to set free all his prisoners, and not to serve against the king of France for seven years, besides, it is said, offering a payment of a hundred thousand francs. King John, however, was persuaded to demand that the prince and a hundred of his knights should surrender themselves up as prisoners, and to this he would not consent. " The French also dragged the negotiations out, waiting for even more reinforcements. During a reprieve given for Sunday, Edward fortified the hill he had encamped on, turning it into a death trap that negated the French's cavalry. Then, rather than starving Edward out as they almost certainly could have done, the French attacked. It was a terrible slaughter, and among the French captives taken was their King John II as well as his youngest son (whom he would treat well on taking prisoner). This marked one of the three great and most famous victories over France that England had during the Hundred Years war - Crecy, Poitiers, and Agincourt. Edward commanded over the first two of these, Agincourt would come nearly 40 years after his dead. After this, Edward negotiated a 2 year truce which gradually fell apart because France could not afford to pay the exorbitant ransom for King John II. One nitpick - the story of his armor being black is apocryphal and originates from an account that describes him as being clad in "burnished black steel" and is almost certainly ahistorical. His soubriquet of The Black Prince comes most likely either from his Shield of Peace (Jousting Shield) which was all black with the 3 white feathers of Wales, or was applied to him by the French because of the ruthlessly effective way he prosecuted war - ie, black deeds.
Another story of old histroy
