I can identify with all of this, I grew up doing just this out of Falmouth with the Tripconeys of St Kevern, I'm about the same age & one of my buddies on the boats at that time was Larry McCabe well known, sadly gone. Great memories thanks.

Really interesting documentary. My grandfather was Dick Rawlings of Porthgwarra and his father fished from Porthgwarra aswell. Porthgwarra wasnt mentioned , probably because of the rivalry between Porthgwarra and Penberth. There was a few pictures of Porthgwarra being passed off as Penberth though. The big pilchard seine boat was kept on the slip at Porthgwarra though. I too use to fish out of Porthgwarra for crab and lobster with Leslie Trewern ( a Sennen Cover originally) . Im sure i can remember as a boy The Boy Gary. I would have called it a " Newlyn Tosher " when the wind blew they flew a small flag from the stern mast called a " Leggy " . To help keep course. Really enjoyed the show though..thankyou.

I did a couple of trips with a father and son team out of Penberth, on the mackerel flies. That was 1989 I think. I can't remember their names but they were lovely people and let me stay in their home ready for an early start. Fried mackerel for breakfast remember that😄

Unfortunately overfishing for too long. Hard for stocks to recover.
