@sam2725 Chesscom has a bunch, but there are hundreds of chess engines now that have unique coding. I also think there are engines that you can tinker with to make it play differently. Instead of simply shifting the elo on certain engines, you can make it play with more emphasis on open center tactics; or make it prone to sacrificing; or make it put more emphasis on getting a closed pawn structure for a slow strategic game. I grew up before the engine explosion and just play against people. I rarely analyze games or play bots, but kids these days are using all those new tools to their advantage.

I've been in this position many times and reply e4 every time. Qe2 is also good, but the whole reason I developed my pieces in this way was to break with an early e4. For me it usually starts with d4 Nf6 Nf3 d5 Bf4 e6 e3 Be6 Bg3. If black keeps the tension and continues developing, this position can arrive naturally. I also see it arise from d4 Nf6 Nf3 d5 Bf4 c5 e3 Nc6 c3 e6 Bd3 Be6 Bg3. (Yes, I know black has 6... Nh5 and 5...Qb6, but I'm prepared against those.) Same thing goes in this position, except this time, we've nearly transposed to the botez game. If black castles and white plays Nbd2, black playing b6 finally arrives to this botez position where both e4 and Qe2 are acceptable. Through high depth engine, it seems Ne5 isn't a terrible move, but it has two problems. The main issue is that white's Knight on e5 is a paper tiger. It's not threatening anything since black is more than happy continuing their development while offering a trade of their lame queenside Knight in exchange for white's crucial Kingside Knight. The second issue is that after Ne5 Qc7, black is triple attacking white's Knight which is only double defended. Both f4 and Nf3 are natural looking ways to defend the e5 square, but then black plays Ne7. If white isn't careful, black's knight on e7 will very quickly make it to the kingside and start attacking, while looking for ways to trade pieces off to punish white for playing this stonewall structure. If white avoids creating a stonewall structure with f4 and plays Ndf3 instead, then ironically enough, it's black securing a Knight on e4. (Since white's Knight on f3 is no longer on d2 defending e4, and since white's Knight on f3 blocks the f pawn from attacking black's Knight on e4 until white's Knight moves.)

yes and no, i'm 1400 and SOME of my games that i've analyzed I can remember start to finish, and i've been playing 2 years. For people who have been playing 20+ years that actually know opening theory in depth, it's probably a bit easier. But for sure, that video of Magnus and Howell where Magnus names historical games from a single position is pretty impressive, especially considering that they weren't his games.
