They won't make it out of the group stages . No one on the roster can effect the game with their D like Thybulle did. His steals and blocks and contested shots often change momentum in games for the boomers

Thybulle is like one of the top 5 Australian basketball players, this is just a comically bad decision by the people responsible for the squad

Sixers fan here. I miss the guy. He was fun to watch.

So much disappointment in the Boomers FO - did they ever even hint to Matisse that he MIGHT not make the final squad??? Like, a heads up would have been the right way to treat the guy. All post-season interviews, he said how excited he was to play for Australia with the boys again. This move, while it blindsided everyone - it totally SHAT on Matisse and that's what I find the most upsetting. The DISRESPECT. Exactly right, I don't think he'll ever want to come back for the Boomers after being treated like such shyte. I do wish the very best for the remaining 12 and hope it all clicks for them, especially Duop - he was noticeably upset by the omission of MVT - who deserves so much better.

I reckon Goorjian dropped a nut and fell to some deluded idea that Delly or Ingles had to be included. Illogical and perpelxing.

Come on guys . Goorjian the best coach!!! He sabotaged our World Cup squad with ridiculous selections and rotations.

@@mattridley8413 Trevor Gleeson, Matt Neilsen or Luke Longley. I understand Neilsen had some question marks over some of Goorjians selections including Delly , Jingles, McVeigh . He arrived late to the Melbourne practice sessions last week and was simply told these guys had performed well. So it was not a unanimous decision to take a lot of these guys. We have a s*** load of dead wood we're carrying on this team. They will get cut to pieces by more athletic teams , for instance, everyone else.

I agree; weird, and somewhat disrespectful decision to axe Mattise, who is clearly an All-World Defensive menace and a proven performer for the Boomers. Joe Ingles very lucky, and I am a huge Jingles fans.

The uncovered part of this is that the boomers are hanging their hat on giddey and the fit or lack of it flows from there. The Patty/Joe generation came up and played together through AIS then played a lot together internationally. That was the foundation of winning in Tokyo and adding Matisse helped put them over the top. As Matisse said he always does really well in a well oiled machine. Giddey is great for his age but he also has big weaknesses and that's why they've loaded up on playmaking options in my opinion (Giddey, Patty, Exum, Daniels, Ingles AND Delly). At the world cup they looked like a bad nba team instead of the team that was successful in Tokyo. It was obvious that they saw green replacing Matisse in the starting lineup to give them a more aggressive scoring option and then they didn't use Matisse well on d when he was on the court. They also missed landale's scoring, size and temperament. Making Tisse Cooks and Goulding the scapegoats - three guys with elite skills who are actually in their prime - to include multiple vet playmaking safety nets just seems like a lack of confidence in the guys in the core rotation.

Goorjan should go before Mattise 🤷🏾‍♂️

Goorjian is past it. I think Goorjian is the reason Basketball Australia withdrew their guarantee that Cotton would be guaranteed a spot in the team and therefore Bryce Cotton’s Exceptional Talent visa application was unsuccessful. Trevor Gleeson should have been coach hands down.

Goorj should of been axed after the last Olympics, everyone thought I was crazy saying that because we got our first medal, but it wasn't thanks to him. Then Fiba came around and he proved he's not cut out for it, now this.. come on Basketball Australia, time to wake up.

mattise is legit. delly is done. australia chose happy memories over skill.

Here's a theory. Patty Mills has hardly played in a couple of years and has no NBA contract. Logical thing, given his history is to take him on the bench and you never know, FIBA Patty may rise. But Patty runs the show, he must be the centre of attention and he desperately wants to stay in the NBA. His style of play requires him to be fed the ball by the 4 players around him and the centre of the show which is why FIBA Patty and NBA Patty are different. He desperately wants to stay in the NBA so the team is built around him and he may have no other player stealing his light. The team is selected and trained in a way to make Patty look good, not to win a medal.

This is a pity for Giddey are not getting the chance to create their own vibe while the old players hold on.

We have a team of role players essentially, the best player was benched in the playoffs and dsred to shoot and then traded be aise he was a liability.

Great takes from any basketball reporter I've seen. ESPN dude was all like throwing his hands up in the air and saying 'well gorj knows better'.. What a joke of a reporter. Please keep up these opinions over the olympics.. I'm sure we will need criticisms from the inevitable losses yeah.
