In episode 3, we travel to Nebraska with Wally Schalau and Don Collyer of Southern Oak Kennels - North, their good friend Mike Vaida, and a calm and collected yellow lab named Steel. Mike’s custom boat amidst the beautiful Missouri River provided us with a one of a kind landscape.
Mike has spent the majority of his life hunting this river. To combat the constant changes and frigid temps, and to accommodate his friends and good buddy Steel, he built a battleship of a duck boat. Heaters, a small kitchen, a TV, heated dog boxes and a built in blind provide the hunters as well as the dogs a comfortable place to enjoy both the hunt and company.
Wally, who was once neck deep in the Whitetail world, had his life changed completely while training his first Labrador many years ago. After that, he never returned to the whitetail woods. He traded his tree stand for a dog stand and never looked back. That decision led to many top-tier gun dogs as well as great friendships, like Mike and Steel.
