When my Ridgeback and I had moved to Cape Town and were walking along Milnerton Beach, we came across several beautiful Boerboels. One of the Boerboels was standing next to a young child and her mother at the water’s edge. I could tell that the little girl was leaning on her dog for balance. When we walked closer, the Boerboel moved slightly and I could see it was to position itself to see us better and protect. It wasn’t aggressive just watchful. My Ridgeback is highly socialized, friendly but more importantly, she’s respectful and stayed by my side. The moment I said, “Hi” and started talking to the mother, the Boerboel relaxed and our dogs smelled each other. Even though we talked for a while, the Boerboel remained attentive to the young girl. I was so impressed by the beauty, intelligence and temperament of this Boerboel.

@@binary so when my mom was absolutely fed up with her, she put her in the garage and opened the door. I’m just being 100% transparent here. She was the worst dog owner ever. That being said, Sheba wouldn’t even run away. She just patiently waited for someone to open the door to come back in. That being said the garage is nice so it’s not like she was in a bad position, but still an awful thing for my mom to do at the time. Sheba was too smart to run away. She was absolutely the most intelligent dog I’ve ever been around.

The owner of a resort we stayed at had a boerboel. One of the sweetest dogs I've ever seen, he'd always come running when you arrived back and loved to rest his head on your lap. He was so big he used fire wood as a toy.

FYI, as a family in South Africa we have had two Boerboel females. They were both Alpha's. They got along beautifully with our other dogs and cats, the key is to bring them in as puppies. They both reached the age of 15. Great family dogs, great with kids, they protect their pack. VERY intelligent!! Like with all dogs, it's the people behind the dog that dictates behaviour.

@@angelmartin7310 Of course the genetics play a role. That is a given and I assumed that one would start the process with a good puppy and hoped that everyone would use their critical thinking skills to deduce that would be the starting point. Every South African should know that as we have a truckload of backyard breeders. However, you are quite right, a load of dog lovers might not know that. My mistake was clearly assuming that people actively watching videos like this would already be in possession of the basic knowledge when looking to add a boerboel puppy to their family. All messages are the opinions of the people watching, that are based on their personal experiences. Nobody needs negative criticism and unfortunately I am not willing to be on the receiving end of any more diatribe. If you cannot contribute anything positive I will file your comment under that of a typical keyboard "warrior". Definition of a keyboard warrior is " a person who makes abusive or aggressive posts on the internet". Mostly in an effort to build their own ego by trying to breakdown someone else. Very passive aggressive. Therefore, please note that you can respond to this message and waste your time. I will not deign to respond to any more comment from the peanut gallery, this was already more effort than required.

One of the last working mastiff breeds. What's so remarkable is that instinctively they set up parameters around your house, compound, farm, or you if traveling anywhere. Cross that line and they'll be trouble. Onlookers will see this sometimes and dismiss the bred for being dumb, or foolish, or too nonaggressive without realizing that they are always working and won't allow their owners out of their sight unlike so many other prey driven catch breeds that will go full steam ahead if they see even a cat or rabbit. You get boerboels for protection. And if allowed to work they'll stick to you like velcro never letting their guard down.

I have two. Zeus is 4 years and weighs in at 67 kg. Tyson is only 18 months old and he weighs 95 kg. They are everything that this video says they are. Loyal and protective to a fault. I am a woman at 64 kg (about). I walk my boys often and they never cease to amaze people who see them. They truly are stunning. Twice, housebreakers attempted to come into my home. No gory details here, but both parties went to hospital! Boerboels like to stalk. This is what they did on those two occasions. Those idiots never stood a chance. The attitude was : welcome in, but don't expect to leave intact". As I said Zeus and Tyson are very good at commands. If they weren't, well, I weigh less than them, so I can only assume I'd be given some flying lessons!😁 I am honoured to have these two beautiful boys in my life and I would imagine that other boerboel owners feel the same way!

    4 жыл бұрын

@@pambisugar8286 the first incident I encountered was after I came out of hospital and just learning to walk again. Three males entered my property. One had a firearm. I tried to stand up but in order to keep my balance my legs have to be apart as one leg is now shorter than the other. Without hesitation Zeus pushed himself between my legs to steady me and lunged at the male with the gun. He attached himself to the intruders gun arm and held on twisting the arm every which way until the gun was dropped. Then Zeus went for his throat. The other two intruders saw what was happening and ran .... Straight into the arms of the police who had been alerted by neighborhood watch. Zeus held the gun toting twit down on the ground biting and snapping at him until I said to him :"come juicey " ... My nickname for him. Zeus came at once to my side and would not leave me. I "introduced Zeus to the police who then took over, and helped me and juicey to my chair that I had been sitting in(wheelchair). This male was taken to hospital and treated in intensive care. He lived, and he and his two sidekicks are now serving prison time. I later found out in Court that I was not their first victim, but the other victim WS shot and killed. Zeus saved my life. No shots were fired and juicey and I were not hurt, but I did take juicey to his vet. He was bruised but fine. Second incident : out in the garden (about 8months later). Walking slowly with juicey. I walk often with Zeus at my side. He's like my crutch. He matches my pace. Two men. One stayed outside of the gates and the second one came over. He broke the car window .. I presume to steal. He got the radio and GPS. I think he would take them and hand them over the gate to his accomplice, then jump back over the gate and two of them would leave. Well, he tried, but Zeus got his arm and shook him like a rag doll, shredding his arm. Neighborhood watch again called the police but the male had freed himself of Zeus and run away. He was found later at the clinic being attended to. He was arrested and placed into custody. Zeus was never trained. I have never shouted at him, or smacked him. I taught him two words " seek" and "come". Those are the two words I used on those two occasions. Zeus eats with me, sleep on my bed with me and travels with me. We are inseparable. As he has shown his absolute love and loyalty to me I give it right back to him. I got Tyson about 18 months ago as a companion for Zeus. Tyson is a gentle giant, but god help any one who attempts to come onto my property. They are both socialised and thoroughly enjoy company when I have visitors. They love squeaky toys (pink) and they have huge sense of humour. I live on a large property and when they play zoomies, I just clear the decks! When they play fight and jump up at each other, mouthing each other, I call that " clash of the titans". These dogs are majestic and I literally stand in awe of them. I how I didn't bore you with this long narrative, but I just wanted to give you an idea of what these magnificent boys are like. Any boerboel owner can read this and they will agree. Have a good day! Yea but whats funny is that Dogo Canario is much better sutied for a small place then Boerboel and they`re not that much different in size.. HOWEVER you can have a boerboel in a appartement thats where ppl are wrong.. Whaat they do is what counts.. If you have a appartement you can go on many trips and play outside alot then both sleeps in the appartement and use longe days outside.. However most city owners doesnt do that and then you have a problem!!

Corso like many other breeds have been utterly destroyed with the whole shitshow that is pedigree/show ring.If people want to see real corso go to the farms in southern italy, these are dogs bred for purpose, not to prance around for fancy ribbons and trophies.

I have a Boerboel on my farm in northern Canada. I've owned a lot of dogs in my life and nothing comes close to the bond I have with this strong confident gentle giant. At 8 months old he is already 160lbs, he is gentle and playful as can be around my young children.. but put his family's safety at risk and he turns into a monster foaming at the mouth ready to attack. We had a coyote in my back yard last week and I had to let him outside before he broke through the glass sliding door. Incredible power

Great video and great dogs. I have had both Boerboels and Rhodesian Ridgebacks and both are awesome breeds , in some ways very similar but also very different. Booth were extremely loyal , smart and protective. The Boerboel were a lot more affectionate with the whole family, whereas the Ridgebacks were more aloof and had their favorite member of the pack. We have been in situations were we have been walking our dogs around town at night and a drunk boisterous group of lads have walking towards us . We walk our dogs off lead and both breeds reactions were equally protective , but also very different. The Boerboel gently nudged my partner until she was the furthermost away from the perceived threat. He then kept a close eye on the group as they passed. The Ridgeback took off , crossing the road and approached them from behind and more or less herded them past us , all the while giving off a low throaty growl. Both were smart enough not to attack, just to let the group of lads know they were there and not to mess with us. Beautiful dogs!! We actually crossed the two breeds and had some very special Ridgeboel pups . Every pup had a ridge and most (especially the males for some reason ) had Boerboel features and size. Can't wait for the Ridgeback video.

When I lived in South Africa I wanted two Boerboel's but disability overtook me so I couldn't provide for their many needs. These dogs are all and more than stated here, they are very intelligent dogs with inquisitive minds and are easily bored, hence chewing furniture and doorways can be quite common. They need a lot of exercise or they get a bit flabby like these boys and girls. You have to be the alpha male/female otherwise they will dominate YOU! Never underestimate the power of these dogs and with strong personalities, they require much training. A dog is only what you train it to be.

These dogs are not a pain in the ass. To the contrary they are highly emotional and attached to their family / "pack". NOBODY should take on a Boerboel if they do not have the time for it. These dogs have true emotions and can be overly happy, then overly sad. They do want ALL of your time when you are home. Not out of asking for food or anything. They just want to know where you are, are you going to work, when are you going to sleep? My Boerboel lays outside the bathroom door while I'm showering! I can hear her nose breathing under the bathroom door when I'm getting out. It is so funny. These are GREAT dogs, but you MUST have the time for them! They need A LOT of attention. But are wonderfully rewarding companions!

Ovcharka kill wolves only if there are many ovcharka , if not a group of 2 or 3 wolves can easily kill it. Dogo's hunt wild boar not pumas, this is more myth than truth, a dogo is no match for a puma, and the videos of them attacking pumas are usually small pumas that have been de-clawed (I live in Argentina) Boerboel is a homestead Guardian, never used for hunting, its purpose is to protect against human thieves and home invaders; pit bulls are extremely good with children, unless encouraged to be human aggressive which is not typical of this breed, they are extremely animal aggressive though
