And that mall (Dixie Square Mall in Harvey IL) would stand abandoned and rotting away for 30+ years after this scene was filmed--- the mall had only lasted for 12 years (opening in 1966 and closing in 1978, with the chase scene being filmed in 1979)--- before finally being demolished in 2012... who'da thunk there'd be an abandoned mall out there that looked even worse than Rolling Acres Mall in Akron OH during its eight years of abandonment?

Location of the mall is not too far from interstate 80, passing through from Iowa to go to the East coast.

I love how Jake and Elwood are constantly at each other's throats while driving through the mall parking lot, but when they're inside the mall, they completely forget about their silly fight and just casually talk about the different stores they see in the mall as they drive past. It's like as if they're window shopping, not even in a car chase at all!

Also shopping centres were much more interesting back in the day, huge variety of stores. Nowadays malls are full of boring clothes stores. Apologies for the tangent 😅
