The Blue Marble : a one marble path chain reaction

Ойын-сауық

After 3 months of work and probably more than 500 fails, I'm happy to present you my best video ever.
Since magnets and marbles I've always wanted to make a big chain reaction in one take with this 2D style !
It's also a "one marble path" which means you have to follow the same marble for all the tricks (in that case the little blue one.) Because everything is in a tilted plane, the hard part was to find different ways of having the marble riding up along the table (magnets, falling weight, catapult ...). To do that, the marble has to be light. And because everything has to be triggered by this little marble, all the tricks are very unstable. Most fails happened when an element fall down earlier than expected.
I learned a lot about chain reaction, and I discovered the amazing power of the hot glue gun !

OH MY GOD! This is brilliant - I loved all the neat techniques you used to move the marble back to the top. You've also used some really neat concepts I've always been playing around with (the back and forth rolling green cylinder at 0:06 and the sliding domino at 1:06 particularly) and you have SO MANY new and creative uses of magnets! I was particularly impressed with how you got the marble all the way up that steep slope at the end so it would have enough momentum to roll all the way across the top. I'm gonna go trick by trick because I LOVE IT! 0:04 this is a nifty little spring loaded straightening trick! you're truly the master of magnets, honestly! I liked the trigger - it's effective, not too fragile, and easy to understand 0:06 I already mentioned it but I really do like the idea of a cylinder moving back and forth down a surface like this. About 80% of the little machines I build in school involve this idea, whether it's with a gluestick or a highlighter - it's just a really fun trick and I love seeing you use it. 0:10 I'm at this point where I see almost no way to create a reliable path switcher that doesn't involve K'nex - my reliance is that bad. That's why I love creative ideas like this! Using a fidget spinner as a path changer is such a neat idea and I'm impressed you pulled it off with such a light marble! 0:18 you used the spring in a pen to launch a marble! I've always wanted to do that, too! Wait actually I think I did it in my collaboration with TheInvention11 :P Also I really love that when the marble goes back up it reuses an earlier track but rolls in a different direction. I love when tricks are intertwined like that and when the unpredictability makes it such that I never know if a track will be used again. 0:29 the scissor launch is another neat idea I quite like! Very smooth translation of the heavy ball's momentum into the momentum of the marble 0:31 another nifty magnet launcher with a neat little trigger! I love it! 0:40 again I'm loving this reuse of old paths! It's even more impressive on a table like this because all the paths are on the same level so you're almost forced to reuse some paths in order to get the impulse to cross from one part of the table to another and back. 0:42 that double push is just brilliant! You used that lever THREE times! 0:50 yet another neat pushing mechanism! You're good at this 0:53 this elevator was very nice and smooth, and I also like the way the column sort of divides the table in two :P 0:59 I did NOT expect this track to SWING AROUND 180 DEGREES LIKE ONE OF THOSE JOSEPH HERSCHER THINGAMAJIGS! AND IT TRIGGERED THAT RED AND GREEN MARBLE JUST RIGHT SO THAT IT WENT INTO A DIFFERENT PATH THAN THE BLUE MARBLE WHEN IT CAME DOWN! 1:06 like I said, very nifty domino slide. Must have been pretty fragile, though. I can imagine this one went off early on occasion 1:07 ooh I like the way the domino is supported and then comes down and whacks the marble haha - and also neat use of spaghetti (I think that's what it is) to allow the marble to roll up but guide it when it comes back down. And then you reuse a track, which as I've already mentioned, I absolutely LOVE! And THEN you use the domino that fell earlier as not only a propulsion method but ALSO as a path itself when the marble rolls across the top of the domino! WOW! 1:09 I don't even know how you got those two blue magnets to stay so close in the first place but this is so freaking cool, I love how the rolling track places itself like that 1:17 is some SERIOUS propulsion! I like how you used the marble to knock down the card the first time it went up, then use the card as a ramp the next time 1:19 is a nifty little hinged kicker and I like it :D And then it rolled across the top of the table! I did not see that coming AT ALL! Amazing video, Kaplamino! You NEVER disappoint!
