The Blackening Out Of Theater Review
The Blackening is a 2023 thriller/comedy that plays off a lot of tropes from older, scary flicks. The movie has pretty mediocre production quality, some cringy dialogue and overall just wasn't that great. The cast all puts in the effort but the script needed another pass.

Probably because he knows that a white man criticizing a predominately black film (even if it is just his opinion) will automatically have some people screaming that he’s racist. Thankfully it seems like most people are just saying “it’s not for you” and not jumping to that conclusion.

@@AdamDoesMovies lol Adam the guy literally said he doesn’t think the movie wasn’t meant for you… so him saying it went over your head isn’t calling you dumb it’s saying a lot of this movie’s content literally was not geared towards you or to appeal to you so it makes sense it wouldn’t resonate with you… but besides that, yes your ignorance definitely plays a factor. That’s not callin you stupid. But if you’re not black or didn’t grow up in this environment you’d be ignorant to a lot of the more subtle references, joke, etc… like a lot do the “on the nose” dialogue I saw did feel slightly on the nose (from a movie perspective) but st the same time I know people (yes blacks people& I’m black btw) who do speak like they were so it was realistic (from that black pov). lol so no need to be so touchy. The movie isn’t for you so it’s ok to just acknowledge that instead of getting defensive or damning the movie outright without being self aware of your potential disconnection from some of the material 💀 (that doesn’t mean movie doesn’t have critiques just that you dont have same filter & POV as the target audience so you see things differently).🤷🏾♂️

I'm a movie critic though and I judged the film the same way I judge all movies. It didn't look great (intentionally or not), the jokes were solid but forced at times, the twist was easy to see coming and the kills were lame. All around an okay flick. Take care.

Christ 😂 Everyone knows most of this content, you havent been isolated from the media in case you are under the impression. I watched the cosbys and fresh prince along with all other famous black actors for their talent, not skin tone. That was the 90s and im from ireland and we loved them because they were funny so if anything, we were learning about your culture the way you want to. It almost sounds like you think white peeople ignore and deliberately turn away from black entertainment due to bigotry. Nonsense. People in the comments saying you weren't the target audience for this movie therefore you can't criticize it? Just because it was made for a specific audience doesn't mean it can't be criticized by other people. If white people can like this movie and their in the clear, they're allowed to dislike it too. It's the same thing that was happening with the mario movie months back. Whenever you were critical of it people go "bro come on bro its just a kids movie it was made for kids why are you hating it??!!!!???!!!" Yet these same people went on to say animation is cinema. if animation is cinema it should be treated like cinema and criticized where its due.

However I took a chance on this was and was surprised 😮. It really was funny. I laughed out loud which I hardly ever do. If I like it..im sure u might as well.
This movie was funny to me
I guess I wasn't the target audience (I'm white), yet this movie was HILARIOUS. You gotta have some understanding of the movie tropes & African-American culture to enjoy it though. I know I missed a few things (the audience was laughing few times, when I didn't catch why), but there weren't many of those. Most of it is pretty obvious IMO. Two funniest comedies of 2023: _The Blackening_ & _Joy Ride_ - both are "race-based" so to speak, both are VERY funny. And honestly, I don't think you have to be the "target demographic" to enjoy them (although those audiences would probably relate to them more).
This movie was hilarious. Idk what you’re talking about
87 percent on RT shocked me honestly. But its enjoyable somewhat imo. Definitely not a horrible film imo. Spoilers ahead Now i knew the one guy would be the killer soon as i seen him. I told my girl while watching if one of them is a killer? I bet its the dude who was already in the gas station that had the creepy white guy worker.

I think it was supposed to be predictable like the horror comedies of the past couple of decades. Of course it was the guy who is the outcast and owns an Android 😂 the unfolding of his "mastermind" plan was supposed to fizzle and be pathetic because he's the one who planned it. Nothing is supposed to go right for his character. This movie played more on the comedy side than on the horror/mystery side.
I never thought I’d be that person but of course he’s not gonna enjoy it that much 😅 I don’t think he’s the preferred audience… Lol I feel like you have to KNOW to know, ya know?
In my honest opinion the movie was mediocre at best. I understand the comedy aspect and the fact it was black humor but they went way too overboard with all of it. In all honesty I was rooting for the villain the whole time. In the end the main cast were just assholes to the villain and it wasn't even a horror movie. If you want a better horror comedy just watch scary movie at this point. I'm not gonna type all my opinions of this movie cause itd take too long but yeah in my opinion cocaine bear was way better.
This film had at least 100 good small jokes that only black people would understand. That’s what made it good because it was relatable to us. You wouldnt get it and your not supposed to
So funny no black person watches Friday no one in my family has either lol
I agree i saw like 25 minutes of it. To be honest i hated it the cast was great but the film itself to me i didn't laugh once and i didn't think the jokes was funny definitely not the racist ones because thats all they basically hade
