The BLACK SEA in Bulgaria is EPIC for Spearfishing🇧🇬 Not what I expected!

The Black Sea is somewhere I never considered going spearfishing until I spoke to Valentin Lyutskanov at the world championships in Spain. He said he would love to take us out diving to find some corvina off the coast of Bulgaria. It was beyond anything I could have imagined and one of the best days diving I've ever had in my life.

After years of spearfishing in Croatia I understand how magical it must feel to see such a large school of Mediterranean fish, but I have to say it was hard for me seeing them being shot because of just how rare they are here. Great video and diving technique, but I am certain humans have to start restoring the nature. (Keep spearfishing it is the most ethical way to get fist)

Somehow I missed this video of yours. Very very interesting not only to see the black sea underwater but also how plentyful the fish can be there. Your videos are so relaxing, you manage it so well to catch and portrait the feeling of being silently underwater, everything is just slow and beautiful. Hope we will see some more soon.

@@DanielMann That's right, no need to drop weighting. If you're not good enough to actually freedive to 40m leave the big breeding fish alone. You don't deserve them because you're not good enough.

In Australia it's not needed for 99% of the spearfishing there to catch a feed. In Europe it's a way of being able to do things safer with less effort and therefore less fatigue. I know you won't agree but unless you've spent an extended amount of time fishing in the Mediterranean it might not make sense. Every technique has a time and place. The previous world champion I dived with said you should never variable weight dive to gain depth, only to make things easier once you have achieved that depth constant weight.

@@DanielMann You're absolutely correct Dan, I'm not falling for that shit. In the true spirit of breath hold freediving the weight belt only counteracts the buoyancy in the wetsuit. In my mind it's a dogs way of saying I'm not scuba diving. If you spend a lifetime truely earning your catch you respect the process and yourself. So in conclusion I'm against drop weighting and fkn shark shields. Thanks for a healthy debate

Back in the ussr that fish was a prized target - you had to dive deep for it and sometimes it was very difficult to extract it from their holes. The biggest I saw was 5 kilos very shallow - I got so excited that I missed at point blank range. I never saw so many in a school. However outside of Corvina (Brown meagre) this place looks desolated. Did you see any mullet there?

amazing video, my all time fave is the legendary corvina (eskina in turkey). you've mentioned it's difficult to see large shoals in the med which is generally true but my experience in the aegean is slightly different. I would recommend you find a cove or bay downstream of large fish farm if you want to see shoals. but be prepared for bad visibility 🥸
