lukerbom12 the Steelers were the defending champs and the bad start to the year was seen as a fluke due to ben’s motorcycle crash, plus they were at home in one of the toughest stadiums to play in. While the Saints being good was also seen as being a fluke, nobody realized it was the start of a 15 year Brees Era in New Orleans

The NFC was incredibly weak that season. New Orleans was a 2 seed at 10-6 and the Bears were pretty much the only legitimate Super Bowl contender in the entire conference.

Phinal Flash agreed! I think Seattle won the NFC West with a 9-7 record. After the Bears’ 13-3 record, the second best dropped down to 10-6, which were both the Saints and the Eagles. It’s definitely a weak conference if most teams got into the playoffs with either 9-7 or 8-8 records.

the fact that this is EXACTLY how the steelers lost today shocks me.

Saints fan here,I'm 38 years young now & I remember watching this game in San Antonio. People I have great respect for that played in this game like fast shoes willie parker,Duece McAllister, Hines ward(wow rookie at the time Marques Colston etc. Wow that's something how i still got emotional watching this game & it was over 10 years ago.Go Saints & Who Dat!! Mid 2000’s Steelers had a great offense. Too bad Willie Parker didn’t stick around, he was something else. And, Hines Ward was one of the best receivers of his era.

This is the last time the steelers beat the saints (unless they win today). In 2010, they lost @NO 20-10 and v. NO in 2014 35-32

Yes 2010 was Halloween night after we won the SB, we were terrible in 2014 but played our best game of the year against the Steelers. This game was fun to watch even though we lost. The so called experts kept saying if the Saints jumped out to a lead the Steelers would fold and it would be game over. The Saints did jump out to a lead but the Steelers came roaring back lol. Still a fun game to watch.

Why do people continue to call yellow gold? You can see clearly see the difference between the two colors in this game.

We all missed out on a Ben versus Brees Super Bowl, would have been better than most of them. Too bad that the teams peaked at different times

Maybe because the Steelers were on track for having the worst ever follow up to a Super Bowl winning season. But I could be wrong.

I always thought that the "botched snap" fumble play to Deuce would be illegal. From what I remember a RB cannot take a direct snap if the qb is under center. The colts tried that in a playoff game in NE back in '04 and it was penalized and called back. Was it because the ball was considered fumbled that it was allowed?

I think thats exactly why. Looking at the play i was super confused on that too. No way they would design it so that it would bounce toward the RB. Either way I think they did want to snap directly to the RB seeing as how Brees wasn't confused at all and the entire offense didn't look flustered either. However whether that bounce off the ground was intentional or not is what is a mystery to me so either A) they really practiced where the ball would go if it bounced in a certain direction or angle or B) they wanted to directly snap it to the RB but it accidentally hit the ground on its way to McAllister. Either way though its a good thing it didn't because like you said it probably would've been penalized if it never hit the ground. Still thats a genius call if they wanted it to hit the ground intentionally, so much so I'm writing that play down in my coaching notebook lol.
