Mark's story about procuring warm canned pineapple juice from an office supply store just sums up this whole special perfectly...its just off

The Our Cinema Oscar Special perfectly sums up a lucid stress dream. You dream that you're about to do your favorite thing, but one component is always missing or the dream changes before you get to do it.

This is definitely the most under-appreciated Oscar Special they’ve ever done. I get why most people on this planet couldn’t possibly get through the entire thing. And maybe that’s why I love it so god damn much.
I'm pretty sure everyone I know would hate On Cinema so it's really nice to see someone else who loves this weird universe as well go in depth with it
The line that Tim will be "dealing" with Mark printed in such an official way is priceless.

he really blew the lid off that one, it was huge
I love how the special turns the moment Gregg tells Tim to jump off a skyscraper. It not only removes Gregg’s likability but also makes Tim sympathetic in his pain even if Tim is undermining Gregg again.
There was a line in one episode (I forget which one) where tim mentions being thankful about Julia “dealing with that issue”

Yes! I think it’s the skin donor decision episode, or maybe the face reveal?
For some reason this was the first oscar special I watched. It was so funny getting into it after being exposed in the most bizarre way possible. I definitely miss the low quality sets.

The only thing Our Cinema taught us is that Gregg cannot handle things solo.

Even back in the On Cinema Podcast days, the first episode Gregg does solo has a weird "phaser" effect on the audio. Truly impressive how bad you'd have to be to accidentally ruin the audio that bad xD

What’s weird is that Gregg’s couple episodes where he hosted Season 6, is that those were some of the better episodes of all time. So he can handle it solo at least in episode format

Hes the film buff never a host. But this Oscer special was actually about the movies and the Oscers
Love how things always come to a head in the darkest ways by the end and yet continue a few weeks later like no big deal. Easily the funniest stuff you can find online if you have a dark sense of humor.
That segment breakdown was a perfect encapsulation of Our Cinema. It can not be understated how hard it is to purposely make something look bad in real time. They knocked it out of the park
Worth noting; apparently the reason they did this special instead of the usual Oscar Special had to do with Adult Swim not allocating them a proper budget. It speaks so much to the teams showmanship that they still managed to pull something together that 100% works in universe

I love Mark when he starts getting bitter and angry, like when he kept giving script notes during deck of cards like "My character wouldn't know that"

Hey there
This video really kicked it up a notch. Great editing, terrific insight into the horror. Admiral Gorgg 2.0
You touch on this at the end, but I do think the ultimate punchline to the special is that it has like a quarter the views/engagement of every other special. The story is seeping into the real world
The trash can in the frame is fantastic.
SUCH a great analysis! You are really deepening the experience for me and making me think about stuff I hadn’t connected before. So excited when your videos drop…
Another 5 bag video! For Your Eyes Only oscer awards ceremony from a laptop in a dimly lit room might be the best way to sum up the movie (1981, 127 min)
Oh no. The inevitable has happened. I now enjoy Gorgg's analysis more than the actual show it is based on. Darn you YT algorithm!
It's very difficult to describe On Cinema, even to folks that are versed on Awesome Show. This video does exactly that. Just found your channel today while looking for some On Cinema content. Appreciate seeing another fan out there! Subbed. 🙏

Nice job with the speaker-buster intro there. The best part of the OCOS is all the shit continuously falling over. Hysterical. Good vid Gorgg.

Fantastic video
You don't "pan" up, you "tilt" up.
Admiral, you are a treasure!
I think it’s implied later that Juliana had an abortion. I think Ayaka may have had the kid, and it’s the kid she talked about in the trial…but that might be up for debate
the inland empire of the on cinema world
on cinema is the best. It's just so hard to get people into it! you kind of have to start at the beginning to get the full picture and there is just so much material to work through now. Truly absurd hahaha.
The lighting guy deserved oscar for this special
this is better analog horror than anything made before or after or since

The only thing I remember from Tim's child with Juliana is the next season when he did his face reveal (season 9) is asking her if she "took care of that other problem" being a hard decision to make. As for another child with Ayaka, I don't remember when they brought it up again.
I always wonder how influenced they are by Fernwood/America Tonight. That pre-dates Great White North, Wayne's World, etc. You need to go for Garth Marenghi's Darkplace if you haven't already.
7:28 omg we love using that soundbyte on the podcast hahahaha
F'n disaster. Absolute poetry. I'm a soldier in General Gorgg's On Cinema Army.
Tim definitely suggests that he paid for Juliana's abortion but i don't remember anything about ayaka... Assuming this is a different pregnancy from TCHJ
Never forget: the Chinese Connection.
Unfortunately you didn't cover it in this video but its a shame how they didn't make more of these, movie-buffs, bond-heads and hobbit-freaks the world over delighted in this premium movie coverage, but I guess Gregg is too busy with new productions these days

Hey 👋
One of my favorite jokes within this special that is also an undercurrent of this whole universe: every video/special produced by Gregg, who loves film, are of terrible quality. Every video/show produced by Tim, who basically can’t be bothered with film, are much much higher quality. 😂

One of my favorite running jokes is how they only make sense when they're undermining the other.
Just realized I didn't respond to ur response on the last video. Saw David, had a chat with him, I now have his personal phone number and he's expecting pictures of the water Lillies at my grampa's house. Highlight of the show for me was when he did an impression of world class impressionist, James Quall, doing an impression of Neil Hamburger. Based on the way David talks about Neil I don't think he knows who Gregg Turkington is at all. He said something like "Tim and Eric just used me, but now they use Neil Hamburger!" It's like he believes Neil Hamburger is a genuine person, and Tim and Eric still have a show(?). But David Liebe Hart, as Quall, as Neil Hamburger, saying spaghetti with meatballs made me cry laughing. he asked us to bring him chicken and dumplings to his air bnb, asked us to give Jonah a used iPhone 10/11, had someone run to the store to get him cough medicine before his performance, asked us to hunt him down an Erie lackawanna model train! An entire hoot, a whole holler. I both really enjoy his music unironically, and get the surrealist kick of seeing Jonah accidentally knock over a mic mid performance and David asking the crowd for phones. 5 bags for DLH, 2 sodas. been loving the videos too! keep it cooking Gorgg.

Watching this live was crazy. It ended earlier so i remembered i just watched the actual oscars for the rest of the night (it was awful)
Just dipped back into OC the other day, it's like objectively brilliant comedy
This special made me realize how awful of a person gregg is. Throughout the show i felt bad he was abused by tim and his anger, but it also turns out gregg is toxic in his own way, he’d encourage someones suicide rather than pause the show to talk to him. Yes Tim was lying and trying to ruin him, but hes still awful and tim knew it.
There's definitely a Warholian style. Make the lighting and sound bad. Zoom in on the wrong thing. Long silences, boring stories, and weird behavior. ....I guess this makes Tim Heidecker the Brigid Berlin/ Holly Woodlawn, Gregg the Candy Darling/ Edie Sedgwick, and Mark is Andy
God I need to subscribe to the HEI network. I cancelled it because I couldn't cast it from my phone which I thought was lame for something I was paying for
not related to this oscar special but I believe the forth one, when they’re sponsored by red flower chinese food- turns out that’s a real chinese restaurant in kentucky that was closed for serving road kill. on cinema is a masterpiece and our cinema belongs in the louvre

"Alfalfa - isn't that uh food for a horse?" 🤔
now that you put things in this light, perhaps "the crew" are also suggested by Tim (and hired in a way to do trobule) and he had to call because he felt this is not going to hell fast ENOUGH lol... or nobody allows Gregg for a break because everyone is losing their minds and want to get this done with as quick as possible

hahah thats a great thought... bit of extra sabotage, if tim hired the crew rather than just giving gregg the money to do it himself... im sure he would have added in the contract that they need to play empty bottle off stage to mess with gregg
This was one of the best ocar specials. I especilly loved the pineaple jUice from stappels. Do you think that greeg needed a break because of the juice? Also a random question… did greg do 501 movies in 501 days because he did failed to do 500 in 500 days? Wich is axually possible.
Hey Guys! 5 bags and a smiley face Emoji for dropping a new video
This is the gretest expirtese.
Without Tim's clumsy corporate shilling, it's refreshing to see Gregg take things back in the direction the ORIGINAL show took. You know....about Movie. Not whatever passing fancy has Tim's childish attention.?
