The Bishop Arcade Mall: Connecticut's First, Oldest & Most Beautiful Indoor Mall. Bridgeport, CT.

Join me as I take a look at Connecticut's first and oldest indoor shopping mall, the Bishop Arcade Mall in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
This video was filmed in November 2022 on a Monday around 11:00am.
I hate to say it, but I think this qualifies as a dead mall. What do you think?

From what Ik that mall is usually empty like that. It’s pretty darn sad that well nothing much really goes on there, or people simply don’t know it exists at all. I’m from Bridgeport, and I had to dig in to know this place existed, I’d be shocked if any of my teachers or classmates in high school which I attend rn would even know about this place as well. Real shame. It’s gorgeous!

Yeah, I had never heard of it until just a few months ago. I can see how people wouldn't know it is there though. It's literally hidden behind the modern buildings. Also, the fact that the sign just says "Arcade" out front, probably makes a lot of people think it is a video game arcade and not a shopping area. Thanks for watching!

That place was seriously run-down in the 1990s. I haven't lived in CT in years but I had no idea they refurbished the place, it looks amazing like a drawing right out of an old novel.

I had no idea this place existed and lived in the area for years. Right down the street was the Crossroads Mall which had Sears as an anchor along with many other stores. It closed in the early 90s and was demolished (with the exception of the parking garage. In its place is now Housatonic Community College

@@fleabittenadventuresit wasn't called the crossroads Mall it was called the Hi-Ho center or Hi-Ho mall.. it was a really dangerous place when I was a kid in the 80s, ppl were selling drugs there n there was a high chance of getting robbed if u weren't paying attention.. it closed n was dormant for a while until they built housatonic community college in its place.. u can easily Google Hi-Ho center Bridgeport n it'll come right up

The Mall had to record stores, 1 inside and 1 outside.. A couple rappers came through and they had pics on the outside window with the owner of the inside record store.. there was also hi ho mall around the corner, run DMC took a Helicopter to the hi ho mall and landed on the roof.. the arcade mall used be packed in like 99 to 2003

Back in Spring of 2014, there was a steampunk event that took place in this mall, which I attended. There were steampunk artists in the shops, and a human chess match.

Before Crossroads Mall there was Lafayette Plaza with GFOX as one of the anchors and Reads Dept. store had moved into there also. I remember the Arcade from way back it was and still is a beautiful building.

Look up the Cleveland Arcade. It's similar but much large than this Mall. It was turned in to a Hotel with the public area still open. Maybe this Mall will do the same thing in the future.

I believe it's affiliated with the Bridgeport Arts Trail now. Emphasis seems to be on artists utilizing the space rather than traditional foot traffic so it should be alright.
