The Biggest Wrestling Degenerate

Спорт

Recently I posted a video titled The Deathmatch Wrestling Degenerates and I got a lot of comments asking why I didn’t include a man named Ian Rotten, now I had no idea who Ian Rotten was and upon research might be one of the biggest wrestling degenerates out there, and he needs his own video. Today I’m going to tell you all about Ian Rotten, a former wrestler and founder of IWA Mid South.

It's important to note that Punk, Cabana and Hero didn't do death matches and insisted that the ring be properly cleaned for them before going on. Rotten can brag all he wants about bringing them in but he had nothing to do with their work.

Just Kentucky, and that’s when he started running Indiana as the only place for IWA-MS. Kentucky had wrestling in a choke hold (pun intended) if there was so much as an accidental prick, a wrestler used his fingernails to hard and now there’s a single dot of blood, the match had to be called off. I understand why, but you’d think they’d be okay with doing bloodwork every so often so matches just don’t end abruptly because your hangnail ripped off or something. They’ve finally started loosing the laws on that and it’s brought new wrestlers and a few more wrestling companies.

The crazy thing is there's tons of really shitty things he did that are less known. For instance, after wrestler Rollin' Hard died in 2008, Ian Rotten held a tribute show for him, promising all donations and ticket sales would go directly to Rollin's family. What did he ACTUALLY do with the money? Why, take it to pay his own rent, of course. And this wasn't the only time he exploited deaths, either.

Stole money from a charity show Pretty much single handily got indy shows banned from Kentucky After JC Bailey died, Ian showed up to the funeral, uninvited, then asked for gas money to drive back home Sexually assaulting Micke Knuckles (allegedly, but those two had an ongoing relationship while Ian was married and had several kids) Had hep c, still wrestled and didn't tell anyone He was a manager at a Taco Bell, but got fired after they found out he had hep c There's a lot more. He also gangjumped Dustin Lee with his goons and “worked him over” because he was expected to “pay his dues”. He also made offensive remarks to Thumbtack Jack regarding his German-ness (no prizes for guessing what he called him) and claimed that Jack had “talked shit about his little boy”. Jack had only made a harmless joke that was NOT about his kid. Ian can dish it out but can never take it himself. It’s only OK when HE talks shit about others, nobody else can ever do it to him. Even the whole Levy situation overlooks so much. ‘Rookie’ is a massive understatement he literally said oh I like wrestling so Rotten put him in a deathmatch. That was his training. Levy was also autistic likely contributing to why he accepted to do such a dumb thing, while rotten believed he could easily exploit him. The bloody Mass Transit accident was probably a better situation than this one as at least the promoters didn’t know he was untrained and Heyman didn’t decide to start a lynch mob post match

I remember being a ring announcer in the Southern Indiana area some years ago. IWA-MS had been banned from a few venues and one venue banned all wrestling overall because of them. It took a lot of work on our booker's part and working with the venue to prove that not all wrestling shows are this way. That some of us were a more family friendly show. When we got back in with that venue, IWA-MS tried to weasel their way back in too. Eventually the venue just said no more wrestling at all.

Had he botched it, that could've paralyzed him, or in a worst-case scenario, actually kill him. (I know that it's Finn Bálor's finisher and that it's usually performed by driving both feet into the chest, but at the same time, what happened to Mike in that moment resembled a modified version.)

I used to attend IWA Mid-South from late 2013 to 2014. I enjoyed the matches there by and large, especially since he did a lot for a young girl who was battling cancer and was regularly in attendance, but there were certainly problems there. For instance, one night Ian brought Jeff and Karen Jarrett in and didn't pay them, which led to Karen putting Ian on blast at the end of the night over the microphone. In late March of 2014, I won a raffle and got to be handcuffed to a wrestler during one of the matches. During much of the match we simply sat side by side and watched the match, but at some point the wrestler I was handcuffed to got into a tussle with another wrestler, and he ended up bleeding on my arm. I don't think I ended up contracting any diseases from that, as I would surely know by now if I had, but it was still a very scary situation. I stopped attending their matches after the King and Queen of the Death Matches event after buying a DVD set of the event that Ian promised to mail out and never receiving it. I later boycotted wrestling in Indiana altogether after being bullied on social media by Zane Pasley. It's a real shame, too, because I had developed friendships with several of the wrestlers, many of whom I believe could go places if they got the right exposure.

The state of KY really clamped down on regulating wrestling in the late 90s and really only in the last couple years have begun to ease up. No blood allowed on shows at all. No brawling outside the barricades around the ring. All wrestlers subject to random drug tests. Everyone from wrestlers to managers to refs have to be licensed by the state. The blood and brawling rules are pretty directly related to what Ian was doing in Louisville in the late 90s. When IWA moved to Indiana the regulations were basically non-existent. However, it didn't take long for things to start happening (like all the National Guard Armories in the state of IN banning ALL wrestling thanks to Ian). IWA literally tore up multiple venues to the point where owners banned not just them but all wrestling from occurring there. Ian's tactics had a significant impact on a lot of talent and promotions way outside the realm of IWA Mid South.

One thing you forgot to mention about Ian and JC is that after JC died, Ian showed up to his funeral when he wasn't even invited in the first place, was apparently disrespectful as hell and got kicked out but down right refused to leave. If that wasn't enough, he even had the nerve to ask JCs parents for gas money so he could go. Being an asshole to people who are alive is one thing, but having the audacity to show up to the funeral of someone who he paid in pain pills, disgraced the dead, and made the grieving process for a 28 year olds parents even harder, thats an all new kind of low. Two other notes about Ian Rotten: 1. CM Punk at the height of his WWE popularity (we're talking post-pipebomb promo) tweeted out that Ian Rotten still owed him money. 2. I heard of at least one instance were he took all of the money the show made and instead of paying his wrestlers, he lied and said they didn't make any money and blew it all on drugs for himself. I never got into IWA-MS. Even when I was watching deathmatch wrestling, I always saw them as a poor man's CZW (which, boy is that saying something) and I've heard nothing but horror stories of wrestlers working for Ian Rotten over the years. The man is the epitome of a scumbag.

Man, I'm sure there will be an episode of Dark Side of the Ring devoted to this guy.

I was doing commentary during the Mike Levy incident. Was a disgusting display of bullying and mob mentality.

The only good thing I can say about Ian, was when I first started watching IWA-MS, he booked some great talent and future stars. One of the first matches I saw was a 9 Man TLC match, notable for 2 things. Marek Braves legendary Shooting Star Press botch, and having a young Seth Rollins Also 7:45 it was ‘Diehard’ Dustin Lee

Ian isn't that bad either compared to Vinny Mac he's a friggin saint. Ian did more to help wrestling in the midwest than most anyone knows.

@@williambrown8374 CM Punk has IWA footage on his DVD, my friend was in the clip. IWA was the inspiration for PWG which is the basis for AEW, every wrestling nerd hating on Ian literally is clueless about the history of wrestling... smh
