Minor nit pick she wasnt just a house wife its brought up that she and her husband shared the jobs and that she was decent hunter, so she had to know how to shoot pretty well.

Sadie mentions to Arthur during a game of Five Finger fillet that she was raised in the mountains. I imagine being able to endure back then you have to have a survival skill set and inherit intellect for it. If you pay attention to the details you understand that she is definitely not a Mary Sue. Sadie isn't a people person and was raised in the mountains away from people so it makes sense that she and her husband would choose to continue to live that way. My husband passed away suddenly back in 2014. Like her I don't have any children. It's different I think for widows without children. Widows with children have something to ground them but I have honestly feel rudderless without my Sam, even after all this time. Including making wreckless choices to try to follow him to the darkness. And my rage would be off the charts after a lifetime of BS if anything but his own body breaking down took him from me. He's my always. This whole video is just seems like things you don't understand that makes sense to people who live a different life. Look up Farming at -71c on here. There are people that choose that life because it's what they have always known. I hope this helps make sense of the senselessness life throws.

@CynicGTA youre right to an extent. Target shooting is different than hunting, hunting is different than your typical gunfights and even war is different than all of that...but if i remember correctly, in game she states, "i can hunt, fight and handle a gun"...which means she knows the difference and how to do it...to which she would HAVE to be good at both considering the lifestyle, time setting and location her and jake decided to live in. It was a lot more common for fronteir women(which is what sadie would be considered) to at least know how to handle a gun than people like to give credit for. It wasnt neccessarily the norm, but it was still more common than some people think. Death rates back then were extremely high from just about everything, then add the harshness of the american west EVEN in the end of the century. The norm was that everyone in the family, young children included, would know how to atleast handle a gun in a situation where theyre forced to defend themselves if the patriarch of the house couldnt do so for whatever reason. Usually it was father and son...but if there were just a man and wife or man, wife and daughters, wife and daughters would learn how to an certian extent. Its also very obviously implied in rdo(based on jakes and sadies reaction/dialogue to the player that sadie is the one wearing the holsters in that relationship, and thats shes had to "dispatch" threats before....not because jake was incapable of doing so, but because he was more of a pacifist, often times too quick to trust strangers literally walking into his ranch, barn and house. Its implied by jake that theyve been approached by murderers and robbers many many times...which wouldve been extremely dangerous and unfortunately proved to be so lmfao. It seems as though the o'driscalls managed to get the jump on them because of sheer numbers and the out of season blizzard. They may have taken advantage of jakes pascifist and generous nature, and jake offered them shelter from the blizzard.

I’m fairly honestly disappointed with your take on that. Many details were glossed over. For instance, the fact she mentioned quite a few times she was sharing all chores with her husband, such as hunting. She knew how to shoot. She wasn’t some fancy clean hands woman. Also, the RDO cutscene isn’t damaging to her image. She always was tough and just like Jake said: they’ve been robbed MANY TIMES. She has a very choleric temper and that’s not something that will change and to think this isn’t compatible with her arch is total negligence. My most important concern is you saying she is a female Micah that happens to be on Arthur’s good side. That’s respectfully bs. The intentions truly matters, and there’s a huge gap between Micah’s narcissism and psychopathic tendencies and Sadie’s rage and recklessness. That’s a huge difference, both of their doings shouldn’t be categorized as the same under the label of « chaos ». Otherwise, I enjoy your content every time you post, i think you do a much better job than a lot of people i have seen covering the complexity of this game. I just disagree with some points you’re making.

sadie said her and Jack split the work, both did the hunting and the cooking, etc, they lived in harmony, the Online cutscene only reinforces this and shows that Sadie isnt a Mary Sue as she somehow knows what shes doing with a firearm, atleast for hunting, the death of Jack stunned Sadie and then she transformed this Sadness into hate and finally anger

I don't think there's anything suspicious about the Adler Ranch, or why Jake and Sadie were living there. It's a fact that people did (and still do) build lives in these harsh, mountain environments. In fact you can read a newspaper article in Chapter 2, explaining that the heavy snowfall at the very beginning of the game was an anomaly for the time of year, and that there was concern for potential flooding as the Spring meltwater flows out of the mountains. That suggest to me that the region around Adler Ranch, Colter and Ewing Basin would in reality, likely be green and lush for most of the year, only normally seeing heavy snow in the Winter. Living there would be tough, but far from impossible.

I love your videos and most of your takes but this one is kinda dumb. I think you overthought her appearance in RDRO and didn’t notice the theatricality in her demeanour. She clearly wasn’t as intimidating as she tried to come across. That’s why her husband laughed after she threatened our character. She was just overcompensating to make sure our character’s not trying to scam or harm them. I don’t think it changes anything about her because that behaviour displays her survival instincts and the only thing that changes about her is that she no longer has them after Jake dies.

The murder of Jake is not a catalyst to turn Sadie into a raging murderer, the loss of her husband and by extension all her plans and hopes for the future, is the reason she develops a death wish. She has nothing left to lose. Sadie's character arc is not ruined by the RD Online cut scene because her arc is not one of a meek and mild widow inspired by the cold-blooded murder of her husband to become a violent madwoman in search of vengeance who develops a very particular set of skills that make her a nightmare for people like the O'Driscolls. Instead, her character arc involves Sadie coming to the realization that her selfish O'Driscoll revenge mission only served to dehumanize her in the end. She completes her character and redemption arc helping her gang friends get to safety, fulfilling a promise to Arthur. She goes from selfish, wreckless, miserable vengeance seeker to a hardened but selfless friend trying her best to stop being the monster she feels her enemies had turned her into. When we first encounter Sadie, she is wildly attacking Micah Bell. She is not hiding, or meekly begging for her life to be spared, she is screaming and throwing everything she can at Micah. She is the inversion or opposite of Micah. Arthur questions Micah's bravery and praises Sadie's courage. Sadie works for the camp while Micah does nothing. Micah is a skilled gunfighter where Sadie is not. Micah prioritizes self preservation while Sadie has little concern for her own well-being. Their opposing virtues and vices are many in order to demonstrate that they are dissimilar but what they both have in common is a willingness to use the gang to each reach their goals. But while Micah is incapable of growth, Sadie does manage to temper her worst qualities. Not completely perhaps, but while hunting Micah in the Epilogue for example, the vengeance she pursues is not for herself but for her friend Arthur.

i dont understand how her acting the same way before her husband die vs after he died and when shes healing "takes away from her story arc" she lost her husband. it tore her apart, she picked up the pieces and moved on, using the pain from her grief, turning it into rage and using that rage to get revenge and drive forward. loss doesnt completely change everybody. i had a best friend and lover that died, it was aweful. i miss him. i am still the same person, just carrying the grief with me. i break down and have moments but im still the same person. i dont see why sadie "has to change". shes still the same person. she just has a different reason to fight and as she said "someone with nothing to lose is a lot more damgerous than someone with anything to lose"

I think she’s a good character, but my main problem is that the story paints her as free of punishment. It just seems weird to me that she can stab somebody in a bar full of people, which might I add is like right next to the sheriffs office, and nothing happens to her. No lawmen. The bartender hardly even reacts. Compare this to when Arthur and Lenny get drunk, as soon as it got out of hand the guys from the sheriffs office were on it. It’s almost like she’s not beholden to the same rules that the gang established. Everyone else is so careful not draw attention, but Sadie is always getting them in situations they could’ve avoided. She doesn’t even get reprimanded aside from a comment or two by Arthur.

Yeah and she was, while I don't think confirmed was subjected to a whole lot of trauma, likely raped by the odriscolls as they kept her alive, and that's honestly the only reason I can honestly think of as to why she wasn't killed like Jake. That grief and trauma explains her personality in chapters 1 and 2, not only that, but I think she's always been a violent minded person who doesn't trust well. I think chapter 3 and 4 sadie is her most genuine self. Maybe in the epilogue otherwise it's her watching out for the gang or recovering from her ordeal. The argument that's she's out of character in online seems like an unnecessary reach. That's just me. The end.(thanks for reading if you are here)

I don't necessarily think you're wrong, I think the cutscene made her a bit more aggressive than she needed to be. When you first find her, she is trying to stab Micah tho & others mentioned the hunting & stuff too. The way I would kinda think of it is, she was kinda like what Charlotte became, & she would probably kill someone to defend her home or husband, but after he was killed, she went actively lookin for trouble & didn't care about life or death. Idk, just my opinion!

Thank you for pointing out the vast over estimation of Ms. Adler. She was ok at cowboying, for a girl that is. Just ok.

Honestly I don't get anyone who doesn't like her. Like everyone else in the gang, life and society gave her a bad hand which caused her to go over the deep end and become an outlaw. She's just more honest about it compared to the others

She wasn't house wife she straight up told us "me and my husband used to dive all the work between each other even hunting" besides they live on the mountains both of them were capable people all around to live on sucha environment she didn't lose her husband and become wonder woman she was already a competent fighter from the get go

Never liked Saidie. The first interaction I saw with her in actual gameplay was when she wastes a bowl of stew pouring it out in front of Kieran, not that I had any feelings toward him either, it was just the fact that if I was to be in the gang and saw that, I wouldn't let that slide. You do NOT waste food. Plus the fact that she sounds like Bobby Hill and is just annoying.

Sadie was not a "submissive woman" when you found her. she was BROKEN. it was her against about 8 armed men for God knows how many days. and when Micah found her she was keeping Micah at bay. If Sadie was a dude no one would be questioning the badassery
