C Dorma I don't have the source on me, but I read a study where people who told other people about their plans had a lesser likelihood of actually fulfilling it than telling no one. Another benefit of not telling people your plans.

I had this girl tell me I was dumb for wanting to go into the music industry. Her exact words were "its over saturated and you should get a real job instead" lmao and that was last night. Weird coincidence you post this today. Great video by the way, I ain't letting no girl tell me how to live my life.

question: where is the line drawn from making beats that accommodate the market's internet, to making everything that sounds like every track that is out which in turn make none of your music stand out compared to the rest of beats accommodating the market? does that make sense?

The style of music I love may not be in demand, and that's fine. I mostly make music for myself for now anyway. That said, I don't exactly put myself in a box musically. So my selfishness as you put is really me just trying (key word trying) to be innovative, which could be popular to some, I'd just have to find that pocket of people. No small task.

It been saturated because they are workin only with the artists that we know since a years !! They ain't give a chance to the NEW producers and artists, we know " Problem rapper " since a long time and they never asked work with another artist and it became stupid. Also, we know RJ who's from California he is engaged to work with his own friends who are DJ Mustard, YG, etc.... etc... Then we constat that there are too many artists who came up in the game with the help of their friends and not their talents.

I agree with a lot of this, but I especially agree with the last bit. If you want to make music for a living I would think that you should be willing to explore as much music as possible. I wouldn't use the word "selfish", not that I disagree with your use of the word. But either way it's short sighted. I am going to school for Sound Design and I try to tell people to explore as much music as possible. A lot of people just tell me that its "their style" and they don't want to do anything different. This especially frustrates me when "their style" isn't very well polished to begin with. I get it when people say that they want to make the music they want to make. I have a hard time not thinking that its just an excuse. I have learned to like making just about any kind of music if a situation calls for it. I may not be good at making all of them yet but I enjoy them just the same. I was working on a video project at school that I thought called for a Jazzy song. So I went home and made a 40 second long Jazzy song. I'd never made Jazz before, but it was still a blast! And the song turned out exactly as I wanted it too.

I guess most people don't want to change their style because either they like it, they follow others , don't know they have more than one style, or etc. I know it's a movement for Producers to follow or to copy the same style. As a music producer I do want to change my style of music because it's boring, most of people's beats sounds the same, and also want to bring something new that no one has ever heard before.

How do you know what the market is really looking for? Like you said, there are so many genres and styles that people enjoy, but that level of variety can make it hard to see where the main demand is. Also, what if you aren't even really sure what your style is? Any time somebody asks me what my music sounds like, I go blank and don't have a strong comparison to other artists that I can give. I always wanna tell them that nothing really sounds like me, but A) that's probably not true, B) that sounds douchey, and C) it doesn't help anyone

That's when you find ways to incorporate your styles and preferences (trap) into a different style (Edm). I don't think he meant you should make what everyone else wants at that moment in time but rather if you want to see bigger results and reach out to a newer audience to grow your fan base you need to understand that there are trends that come and go and if you only make the same thing then you'll always keep the same fans, something like that. Just always stay true to yourself, your vision and your sound.

Game, I agree with your point, but your math is not accurate. Divide the number of sound cloud users by the number of humans with internet access - which is currently somewhere around 3.2 billion. Which makes the number of creators closer to 1.2%. (Plus there are other vehicles such as youtube and such, but yes, much more difficult to quantify.) You covered the real key to this point a few days ago in another video where you spoke about "individuality". That, plus quality are the factors that overcomes any perceived market saturation. Great video series!

It's an extremely subjective argument. While you are correct in your analysis of the producers to world population ratio, you fail to consider the unquestionable truth of the matter: 40,000,000 artists (Souncloud ALONE!) with more than a dozen songs posted each year, versus, 525,600 minutes available in 1 year's time. I see your reasoning, but there is also truth to the matter of saturation of availability. Of course I am on par with your advice that it shouldn't stop you if you really want to pursue this as a career but there is a slightly deeper analysis to be made about market saturation. All the best! Cheers!

I dont agree with the selfishness bit. actually i dont agree with this video at all. if you love making music, then make music for the purpose of making music. I make trap beats but I dont make music to gain profit, I just make music... to make music. when you think of producing music to gain profit you put yourself at a disadvantage imo
