The movement is too optimized at this point. I expect at most 10-20 more seconds can be saved, maybe a minute with TAS. People will continue competing for a while, but it would take inhuman luck in addition to perfect execution to beat this time. I wouldn't be surprised if this record stands forever.

Because it uses ace to bypass movement even out of the first zone?? This is going to completely stagnate the run. The only oot run worth watching now is 100% because it actually still resembles playing the game. You people don't understand what makes a run compelling. The reason m64 will always be a relevant speed game is that, aesthetically, it just looks like you are beating the game extremely fast using tight gameplay. I'm not a glitch puritan but ace is pretty fucking obviously category killing. A sub ten minute any% run for a game as long as oot is not healthy for the run's future or for the spectator. It's funny that ace stands for arbitrary code execution, because it makes the run as a whole feel arbitrary and no longer about playing the game in any recognizable form at all.

Though that would be more or less impossible to achieve do to Oblivion menues + the amount of clip luck needed in the current route. Clips aren't on their own unreliable with setups, but when doing for a fast enough time you have to yolo them. Which is why i call it clip luck. A human can get sub 3:10 if enough people jump on the game and start grinding. My run had one failed clip, one partially failed menu. Both adding up to mabye 2.5-3 seconds lost.

This amazing amount of speedrunning developments has also spilled over into the Roblox Community too. Adventure Forward 2, a speedgame I run that takes close to an hour in most categories, had an amazing skip discovered called TBS, or Text Box Storage. Essentially, certain key NPC's that we need to talk to to teleport us to areas of the map can have their teleport activated remotely anywhere on the map. Usually, we have to go to places, grab an item, then head back to the NPC, but now we can just take the NPC's text box with us to save time. Even better, is that it turns out teleporting keeps any momentum you had before the teleport. This wasn't useful before, as you could only teleport near an NPC where there is nothing nearby to gain any significant horizontal or vertical momentum, but since we now can teleport anywhere at will, we've taken to abusing several objects in the game that give us immense amounts of velocity, and making the teleport, to skip entire segments of the game. I'm aware that nobody really cares about Roblox, let alone Roblox speedrunning, but seeing this trend of speedgames having huge developments like this and having it spill over into our little corner of the internet is extremely cool.

2019 & 2020 have been the most amazing years for speedrunning so far, obviously because records are meant to be broken. However, these records are getting to be so optimized that it truly is unbelievably amazing and you just never think you’ll see someone pull it off after watching stream after stream containing tens of thousands of failed attempts over many years, clocking astronomical hours of speedrun play time. Then someone lowers SMB1 by a fraction of a second @ 4.55.646 and sub 19 warpless! SM64 Cheese pulling off his SECOND 1.38 and winning the bounty! These feats are so unrealistic that they are quite literally one in a million. Unreal. Love it. Great video btw! Keep it up bro!! Looking forward the the Cat Strats merch! 😉

Narcissia's run utilizes a quirk of the N64 controller's hardware to store inputs after being unplugged for a few seconds. Her run set up required either an input viewer, or to complete a run up to the point where ACE is performed, unplug the third port controller once the exact input is achieved, restarting the console, plugging the controller back in and restarting the run. This is how she was able to skip slingshot RTA. The controversy stems whether an input viewer constitutes tool assistance, and if the significant setup required to achieve that exact ACE input should be included in the run time.
