Keep watching it and you’ll keep finding things that blow your mind. Took me like 3 rewatches to realize just how scummy the big banks and hedge funds were. Blows my mind that these banks were selling bonds to their customers that they knew would be worthless within months(they were already worthless the second they were made) and then took the money they made off those bonds and used it to fucking short them so they made EVEN MORE FUCKING MONEY when the market crashed. Disgusting. We are hopefully going to start to see these people actually go to jail now that retail and a lot of others are becoming aware of whats going on. After gamestop squeezes, they will have to consider making shorting illegal.

I mean they even explain why it’s so complicated and complex. It’s to keep the average person from knowing. If we actually knew what was really going on in laymen’s terms like this movie takes the time do, we would all be disgusted at all levels.

the purpose of this movie is to show that its not above anyone's head. Its explicitly stated in the movie that Wall St assigns names and titles to simple concepts as a way of making the average person think they can't understand it.

I am Chinese, My wife and I watched this over the weekend. We started facepalming when they panned to the Chinese person, and both of us burst out laughing when he said “his name is Yang”. My wife’s last name is Yang and she won some math related national awards in China, she also whines about the ones she didn't win. This is so painfully accurate for me.

Ryan Gosling playing Jared Bennet was one of the best clips in the movie. His acting as a money manager turd was so perfect, I’d pay to watch a movie with him just being a dick and doing this role for 1.5 hours. For those of you who have no experience on Wall Street, you won’t understand how well Ryan nailed this role. These guys aren’t a dime a dozen in WS and yet Ryan nailed it.

I am thinking quite the opposite. Ryan did a bad and unconvincing job, especially in this scene. Pathetic performance.

Gosling is good in this film, but as for today’s popular male actors - a guy’s guy like Jason Momoa, or a girl’s guy like Chris Hemsworth, Gosling always seemed to be ever-so-slightly douchey by comparison. So this role didn’t seem to be a huge stretch for him. He still seems like a good guy… I mean he is married to one of the most gorgeous women on the planet, and he’s still good here. Just not quite as good as, say, Steve Carrell. Also, I like Jung. Jung seems like good people.

It is like a bunch of math professors talking explaining the pythagorean theorem to each other. I mean bankers don't need to be told what shorting is, subprime mortgages, credit default swaps. But I guess they had to dumb them down for the idiot (me) who was watching. Knowledge and understanding robbed the movie its luster. So the lesson is don't study if you want to live in wonderland
