the BIG BLOCK KILLER 4.8 is DONE! + electric fans on a 99-02 Silverado the RIGHT WAY

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

After about a month of working on this stepside GMT800 Silverado, the engine is back in, its running, and after today, it'll be ready for tuning. In this episode, I add 2005 and newer silverado electric fans while keeping the AC operational just like the factory intended. This requires an additional sensor to let the computer know what the AC pressure is, so it can control the electric fans when the AC is engaged. The 4.8 LR4 in the stepside features a 220/224 cam, a new oil pump, Comp 918 beehive springs, LS7 lifters, BTR trunnion upgrade, all new gaskets, ARP head bolts, gapped rings, and a whole lot more. The goal to compare against is the 300whp Gen VII big block, and while I'm not positive we will make as much horsepower as the Uglytruck, I think the 4.8 has a fighting chance.

The air raid intake is a great choice and using it in conjunction with the stock airbox, I put this on my 2010 silverado 5.3L and this cleaned up th idle a lot!! It is still quiet until you step into the throttle then you will hear it!! Absolutely fantastic content LT!! I've done three of these upgrades and had to do extensive research because it is hard find the right information to do it correctly. You just summed it up in one short video and absolutely no one else has done that. I totally agree to use the factory harness and fans (and you even got the best one). Just change over the pin and upgrade the AC sensor. Everything just goes right in place like was always there. Way cheaper than aftermarket and a noticable difference when driving. I did pretty much the same settings as you (but I can't understand why the stock on/off temps so much higher). Thank you so much and hi from North Gorham. I can't wait for the tune video, that should be fantastic, you'll be at 100K and then some with great content like this! PS great explanation on the bigger and smaller radiator. Looking forward to seeing the tuning and dyno results! Then after AWD conversion, it’s “what power adder?” Spooling a big turbo with a small engine is problematic, so I wonder if you could plumb a twin turbo setup to spool one, then add the second through repurposing a big wastegate. Kind of an X-pipe to the twins. The ultimate power will be limited to what the turbo compressor(s) can provide, so you’ll have to match the lb/min of the S480 if you want a chance to match the 547’s power with the 4.8. There have been some complicated OEM turbo setups-maybe you can do one better!

One thing... I don't think the HIGH speed fan will work unless you put an A/C pressure sensor into the system. I have done several of the electric fan conversions and the ONLY way I have ever been able to get the HIGH speed fan to work is by installing the GM A/C pressure sensor-just like all the factory trucks with dual electric fans come with. Without that sensor, I don't think the computer will ever command the high speed fan to come on. If you turn the A/C on and you don't have the A/C pressure sensor the computer will not command high speed fan for moving more air across the a/c condensor... Just so you know.... Essentially you MUST either install the A/C pressure sensor, or you can set up the high speed fan to be triggered any time the compressor is running, or the A/C switch is turned on. The downside to running the fan manually triggered is that the fan will run at all times when the A/C is on.. Even when you are on the freeway at speeds high enough that you don't need them to be on... Wasting energy, burning more fuel... It's better-let's just say mandatory-to install the A/C pressure sensor.... Just do it the way GM did it and you can avoid a bunch of drama. Those pressure settings he was changing in the tune @ 13:10 make NO DIFFERENCE unless you have an A/C pressure sensor... which the truck he is working on did not come with the pressure sensor on it from the factory. Why he was jacking with the pressure settings I don't know...

I just downloaded HP tuners for the first time to do this and I don't have any of the settings you showed other than the fan on/off temps.

Man you can get a cheap cai on amazon for $60, that’s what I did and noticed a difference in throttle response before I even got the tune

What about putting on dual piston rear calipers and rotors from a GM T800 Tahoe for better stopping? I’m thinking about doing it to my 2018 Silverado 1500.

My only question is, are you going to upgrade your alternator to handle the additional load from the fans? If so, ICT Billet has some great alternator conversion options to allow you to run the 160 amp DG44 from the GMT900 trucks… it’s the direction I went with my 99 extended cab…

Yoo Lt, quick question. What settings did you/do you adjust to get it to run happily with long tubes? I have hp tuners and am interested in turning off my 02 dummy light

How is the AC pressure switch working out? did you have to update operating systems?

My truck is basically the same as the ugly truck. The only difference is mine came with the 4.8. After watching all of these I’m definitely wanting to put more power into my truck

Warning Use high temperature exterior grade double stick tape always especially on the dashboard. You will really regret using anything but the good stuff after one afternoon in the sun. I used some stick on Velcro pads to hold a device to the dash once and the glue melted and made its way into every button and plug hole on the device and the dash.

Where did you tap into for the A/C pressure switch? You talk about it but do go into the install?

It does indeed look very much factory, other than the headers - and those are tasteful stainless steel. I was hoping that you would share the link to the wideband that you use, thanks - I will check that out!
