Sssooooo… I’m really shy. Is it okay to do this at home 1st before going to the pool, or do you need to do this right before you dive in?

Both are okay. For me, I do the warm-up at home before I go swimming

You shouldnt be... People watching you would envy 😂 Warm up routines effects dont last long, so it has to be done before swimming. When high level athletes (that sit on a bench) are told to get ready to change someone, they start their warmups, eventhough they had done it prior. Just do these at first every morning at home until you learn the moves by mind (usualy a week). Then do it by the pool. Try and feel where the movements contract/stretch your muscles. If youre uncomfortable because of swimwear - wear loose sports shorts and a zip on hoodie or a tshirt (tight ones, so they wouldnt fall on your face 😅). And bring a yoga mat. Bam!❤

Love the video. Thank you so much for putting this out. When I had a low back injury 20 years ago the physical therapist slid his flat hand under my lower back showing me that I want to keep the s-curve during dead bug (it should be called dying bug) The physical therapist said you could put a pillow or folded up towel to help you keep the s-shape. I've been doing it so many years I just do it naturally. This may be old information as I mentioned it was 20 years ago, but it seems pretty natural to me. Thanks again for the great video. It really helps me get warmed up before I hit the pool. You're awesome!

Thanks very much for this video. I tried this set of exercises today and it definitely helped. Don't yet have a resistance band so improvised with a pair of thermal tights! Not as much give as a band but they were an OK substitute! 🙂

Could use advice for leg stretching (dynamic or static) and warmup. I always cramp up if water is too cool after about 1000m, or even if it's not, especially after even a few hundred of kicks. It's really limiting my ability to get to and past 1500m again. Even muscles in feet cramp up, and sometimes in upper leg. To combat this, I focus a lot on static stretching of legs, especially calves, before swimming.

Make sure you focus on dynamic stretching before you swim, static stretching after, and drink lots of water before your workout!

It's great to realize i can do these warmups on the changing room's shower floor before heading out to the pool. Btw, aren't 2 laps of breast stroke enough as a warmup?

  • @insidian6429

According to my teacher, you should never start a warmup with breast stroke, but I’m not sure if that’s true.
